    In 2013 I made the jump from a 1997 Eclipse to a 2014 Chally R/T. I thought my Eclipse was fast, but it took me 1 minute to feel the difference in that Challenger. Within 2 months I had to upgrade tires from the 245 stocks to 285, and that was only partially due to burned tread. I upgraded to a Scat Pack in 2019, and had new 305s before leaving the lot... the power is real and so is the fun. These cars are not for the inexperienced driver.

    My one criticism for the manual challenger (and with stock manuals in general) is the shifter. I wish short throw was a priority. I feel like it protects your transmission because you can get in and out more easily and its more rigid. Once my warrantee is up, its one of the first things I'm replacing.
    Apparently replacing it before then will void my warantee, which isn't worth it for me.

    I would say test drive all cars before purchasing and do research on maintenance/cost per month on up keep. This is not a Honda where the car can be forgiving when skipping maintenance. I have only own SRT from the 6.1 to the 6.4. I have rented the v6 versions of the charger & challenger. I like the v6 version of the charger, which I made it from Jacksonville, FL to Charlotte, NC on one tank of gas while pushing the car. After owning SRTs I can't go down because the R/T doesn't have the kick of a SRT. R/T has power and speed but has no zoom like the SRT. Next step is try out these Hellcats!

    Scat Pack is the best bang for you buck. If you decide to get a muscle car, it should be a V8. When I decided to get a Challenger, if I couldn't afford the payments for the Scat Pack V8 I wasn't even going to get a Challenger. I'd just go and get what I could've afford at that time but would never settle for the V6.

    Definitely wish I would have thought about the future when I got my charger widebody scatpack! The gas is definitely number 1 for me! The tires!! Are ridiculous! Especially because you have to get them special ordered! And they cost a grip! And you can’t put a spare on a widebody if you get a flat! None of this would probably be an issue if I wasn’t married and have a children and a mortgage 🤣

  • @ryanrock4944
    @ryanrock4944 Před 3 lety

    From someone who upgrade from an RT to the scat i think you are spot on with the analysis. The power can be intimidating and its best to start slow before jumping to something that's a legitimate drag car.
    Also, is the scat more expensive? Yes, does it go through more gas, yes, is it more expensive to maintain, yes, does it cost more on insurance, yes, yes and yes, but its ALSO 100% worth it!! Especially when you have a manual like me and you can roll through the gears absolutely a blast to drive and have complete controll over the car.

    • @ryanrock4944
      @ryanrock4944 Před 3 lety

      @@xox_xox99 nope. Its like a tier system so if you call insurance or do it online the R/T is an option but then they will most likely ask you what motor the 5.7 or 6.4 and thats how they get you. To be fair it costs more so it makes sense the insurance is more as you are also more likely to use more of the horsepower lol.

    I went with the Challenger SXT. Used to have a 2007 Mini Cooper S that was a fun car, when it wasn't in the garage every other week... but it just wasn't feasible long-term and I just didn't have the time or the money to constantly spend fixing shotty BMW parts. Always liked the Challengers of all trims and took the dive on my current one and am loving it.
    I don't need more than 2 doors, the trunk space is great (unlike the Mini), gas mileage is MUCH better than the Mini towards the end of its time with me, and it's a fun daily driver - even as a 6 cylinder. Of course if I had the immediate money I *MIGHT* have gone for a V8 but it would still be a tossup since I'd be in traffic most of the time anyways and no longer race on the track or autocross so I feel the 6-cylinder was good enough to suit my purposes.

    I bought a new 2023 Scat Pack 1320 about three months ago. Incredible car! What a beast! However, I realized after 500 miles of use, I should have been focused on buying a replacement for my old , beat up daily driver. The 1320 just isn't a practical DD and just two weeks after I bought this car my local dragstrip ( Atco Dragway, NJ) closed for good. So, even though I love what the 1320 has to offer, I scraped together enough funds to buy a 2023 Charger GT PLUS. This too is a great vehicle and even though it's "just a V6", it's capable 300 horsepower engine is ideal as a daily driver. I couldn't be happier. I am now faced with making high payments on a car I no longer drive and is up for sale :(

The GT500 and Redeye are now competitors. Ford power wise has nothing in the competition range for the regular hellcat.

    I bought my first brand new Charger RT from them way back in 2008 lol! I am considering going back to a Charger RT for a daily to replace my Jeep Cherokee, but with a new job on the horizon that will have me driving out of town for work I know I will be racking up miles quick and burning fuel. With that said I might consider the Charger GT with that Pentastar V6. Great videos Racer X, keep them coming!

    If you only need a SXT for your daily then spend a tiny bit more and get the GT with performance pages and more bells and whistles. Same engine, same Insurance cost,same mpg.

    Hello Racer X, many thanks for your channel, enthusiastic and informative. I really enjoyed especially your trim discussion/guidance; I have been watching your channel since this year's spring. Finally, after long waiting, I got the car title for brand new 2020 Challenger GT AWD (granite crystal, Black Top) and can drive her. For me the power of V6 is well enough (compared with 1.6 L Ecoboost and 2.0 L supercharged diesel in European Fords I drive). I am enjoying every mile - the car is totally different from European cars: look & feel, sound and power & response (namely when compared to downsized supercharged I4’s common here for midsize cars). Challenger handles surprisingly well when one realizes the size & weight, she is comfortable, roomy big coupe and simply beautiful. Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised with the engine sound, both interior as exterior, and the power. With V6 engine the car is probably below the muscle car definition, nor a race/performance car but rather a classy cruiser (what was actually my dream that finally came true now). Take care and keep up with your great content. Greetings from the heart of Europe (Czech Republic, Prague).

    I had a regular R/t back in the day...me personally I find them useless. If you modify them okay but just bone stock they aren’t beating any of the competitors. The scat pack itself has a tough time against the mustang V8 and camaro v8. If you want some rumble and noise then go for it but if I had to pick I would go V6, then straight to the scat or hellcat

    Yeap u hit it on the head G, I had a choice BTW the Hellcat and 392 srt... and to be completely honest my 392 has gotten away from me more then a handful of times. PLUS if I want it to go faster just add a mod or 2. But yeah that hellcat is something serious guys u REALLY need to be able to handle 707hp.

    My dream is to own a scatpack challenger. But in reality, I might have to settle for another rt charger (family situation). Hhhm, maybe I can pinch a few pennies and save up to get the scatpack charger widebody. Best of both worlds :-).

    Fully equipped RT if you just want the looks and feel of a muscle car. Base Scat pack if you want performance. They're both comparible in price. At least here in Canada.

    I agree with you on all this and if you go back to late 70's early 80's performance .....Sxt, GT and RT blow away horsepower of the camaro's, transam's and mustangs from that time ..they had 220 to 240 hp... Yeah... we've came a long long long way .....I had those cars and my RT smokes them in all areas .......Peace

    I think I am going to get a little more experience driving my ScatPack then in a few years go for a Hellcat with under 20000 miles. I have been looking and the 2015 and 2016 Hellcats really are becoming more affordable with decent miles.

    Another thing to consider is that a muscle car isn't the same as a sports car. A sports car is fun to drive around winding roads. A true American muscle car is not ideal to drive on winding roads. The Scat Pack and Hellcat options are both the true muscle cars. Only get those, as you said in the video, if you want a car to do lots of drag racing in (Scat Pack for 1/8th mile and Hellcat for 1/4 mile).
