I’m a manager at a Costco store in Oregon. One of my favorite customers is a Pearl Harbor survivor. Listening to him talk about the attack has been an amazing experience. Sadly, I haven’t seen him since COVID started. And I think I know why. Glad I had the chance to talk to him when I did. God bless him.

I worked in the armoury on the Missouri during the Gulf War. They sent us really old boxes of 16 inch primers. One box was dated 12-7-41. I Issued them out to the turrets and they were used for the 1st NGFS mission on the Iraq forces and the 1st time since Korea the ship fired on the enemy. Using pearl harbour day manufactured primers was special. Some people on the ship had a machine shop guy mount them on teak wood board with the date they were fired .

Here's something interesting to think about: Any WW2 veteran still alive today would have to be at least 94 years old if they turned 18 in 1945.

I served on Oahu throughout the 1990s and called Pearl Harbor and Honolulu home. I loved every single minute of it and tried to serve with as much honor and dignity as possible as respect for the fallen who set the standard before me. God rest all of the fallen. 80 years ago today the IJN attacked Pearl Harbor trying to knock out the U.S. Pacific Fleet and failed thanks to USS Enterprise and the other carriers being out of port at the right time. Now in 2021, we remember those who are still alive, their comrades who are still entombed within the USS Arizona, and those who have passed on since then due to natural causes or injuries from the attack, with the U.S. Navy and JMSDF now the best of allies and friends.
