Yeah, I agree Pete. Open AI was demonstrating what they are launching in the coming week. Google was showcasing what they are working on. What is working on is no relevance until you have it in your hands.

@@demetrionavarro4571 because for a system like this to be widely accepted across humanity there need to be low friction to entry. Thus, low latency is one of the most important features. Without showing it live, we do not have a grasp for how long it would actually take

You missed the importance of Gemini Nano, something almost everybody does, because the consequences are vast. For one you have a multimodal model local on the device, for people outside the US where data protection is still worth something, many of the OpenAI features will be practically a no go at least in a professional context, due to its problematic usage of data. In addition, there will be third-party applications which can be built with data protection in mind, directly for your device.
OpenAI 4o might be shiny, but its usage is far less than presented. The desktop application is mac only (and there is still no message, that that will change). OpenAI on devices outside the private use is questionable due to the data protection problems (project astra will have the same problems, but Gemini Nano is able to compensate somewhat). And the free 4o usage is limited and the results are not so much better that it is worth the money (especially with all the open-source models, which are able to run locally) and due to agentic systems with RAG and tooling support on top of a locally run model the results are much better as a single search with a better model.
