this was the best review and demo I've seen of this unit hands down! the video and audio quality, framing, and clear well thought out order at how everything was explained was just excellent!
Excellent review. I've seen a few on the Showbox & this is by far the best. Clear information, delivered in a logical order. Thanks Jordan.
finally somebody does a video on this! Thank you!
Greay demo and review. I like it
Thank you for your in-depth review!
I just bought the showbox - mainly for playing small wedding ceremonies with my acoustic duo without needing my column PA (MAUI11) and my seperate mixer.
First field test will be a wedding this saturday.
After the ceremony, I'm planning to use the Showbox as a mixer and monitor for the MAUI during our cocktail hour session. By connecting the MAUI to the headphone-out, the volume level for the Showbox and the MAUI can be set independently.
Since we have 2 vocal mics, 1 Guitar and 1 Stompbox, the Showbox mixer will be just perfect. Having compressor and reverb/delay is awesome, since needing those effects was the main reason for buying my seperate, mixer (Phonic Celeus 600) back then.
SD Recording, looper (for soundchecks!), tuner, snapshots/presets - very nice!
Greetings from Germany
great demo! maybe you can make a technical comparison with Mackie Showbox and Bose S1 Pro+
I bought one and had to send it back. Not loud enough and was way too mid range with very little low end. Advertises as working for small bands but I'd say that's a stretch. I wanted to use it for a two piece (vocalist and myself on guitar) with backing tracks and found it would not be powerful enough even for smallish bar gigs. It's a shame as it's a great idea and the build quality and innovation on the mixer was really good. If they could do something similar perhaps on a bass amp and column speaker with a lot more power and volume, I'd be sold.
I went down the Bose S1 pro + route and one speaker isn’t enough push for even a small bar so ended up using another powered speaker with it kinda defeating the object. So you have saved me the hassle big thank you for your comment
Same here. I use a foot drum kit, and it sounded nasty even at pretty low volumes
I just ordered mine on Wednesday and I wasn’t happy with it I previously had free play live I upgraded to showbox because I thought hey same features but just louder but I was wrong the moment I connected my phone and turned it all the way up and it wasn’t as loud for the size of the speaker I even questioned it was the same capacity to the free play if not a bit quieter than it but I was disappointed I’m going to return it
Looks like a cool product. I like mackie gear but my only issue is their atrocious support of products. I have blackbird interfaces and they work great, solid build. Mackie put out maybe two driver updates and they were done. Just something to keep in mind about mackie.
Will it play tracks off a thumb drive? Thanks.
hey im having trouble getting my phone to connect to the speaker sounds… is there an app or anything or is it supposed to just link up?
Gracias por el vídeo... cómo activo la función para colocar micrófono de condensador por favor?
how do these battery powered speakers fair with bass? Could there be a few hours of use with sub heavy music like drum n bass or hip hop?
What if we need more output more than 400w?
There's only 1 input for a foot pedal. It's obviously for a stereo jack connector. But how does the Showbox know that you are not going to turn FX 1 or 2 on on off but you are going to use the foot pedal for your loop sessions? Thanks
I was hoping you'd specifically address the instrument inputs. Can a bass guitar be played through this safely? How much control do you have over the echo & reverb for a guitar player?
I'd expect FX to be by channel, but 8" woofer is going to be kinda small for bass I think.
sounds pretty decent with a bass coming out of it - its no MarK Bass amp lol but i do find it gets a good sound. i play guitar and bass out of mine.
Is the clip that holds the breakout mixer stable ? Meaning if it is bumped, will it come off, or is it Locked on the clip?
It screws onto a mic stand, and relies on gravity to hold it to the clamp. It would take a really big hit to knock it off though. Your mic stand would be on the ground before the mixer pops off.
Hi ! So if i plug in a left and right stereo 1/4 inch pair into 5/6, the stereo will be maintained 1. Out through the 1/4 inch Headphone Out, 2. SD recording, 3. USB to computer, AND 4. TO THE MAIN, SINGLE XLR OUTPUT?? (I heard you reference the main volume control as "STEREO OUT" .....
Thanks for the comment. I need to test this, I would assume the XLR output is mono. It doesn’t say ‘link out’ like you’d expect if it was expected to link to a stereo pair. I need to test it though.
@kettnercreative thanks for quick response. If I find out, I'll let you know as well!
I don’t understand how the stereo input (5&6) work. Can i have a electric drums in line 5 and a keyboard in line 6 if inputs 1-4 are already taken? Hope that question makes sense. I play around with my kids and we incorporate guitars and mics as well as a keyboard and drums. This would potentially solve every instrument we use with one unit
You could. But you wouldn’t get independent volume control. If you’re recording, one of the inputs would panned left, the other right.
@@kettnercreative Thanks for the reply. I found your review very helpful and so far the best out there for the showbox. So in your opinion would it sound noticeable or “normal” when panning left and right and could the volume still be controllable independently through the actual instrument volume control?
So there is no one button for effect off? You need to rotate that knob to set None effect? Non practical at all.I need to shut off the effect on the mic i play and in between when i talk,i don’t wanna bring a separate effect, kinda stupid
Seems like a nice product, and I enjoyed your review. However, you do several times refer to "stereo" recordings and outputs etc, when clearly the whole thing is mono.
It has stereo inputs, and the USB output is stereo.
Wifi the mixer. This unit would be killer.
Hey bud. Do you know if someone could use this mackie showbox with the new Ed Sheeran looper?
Depending on how you use the looper. If you're just connecting a stereo output from the looper to the stereo input on the Showbox, it would work. If you're using the bigger looper that he uses on stage, I believe that unit has 4-6 XLR outputs, and you'd run out of inputs on the Showbox.
Really wish this was stereo.
The features are top notch, but the live sound lacks for me. I have been gigging my EV Everse 8 and now the new Everse 12 for about 200 gigs. The EV models sound much fuller and louder than the Showbox. I love the Showbox's breakaway mixer, Recording feature, and Live streaming, but for me if it doesn't sound great LIVE, then it won't work for me. I still own the Showbox, and may sell it, but I will hold onto it for while to use as a recording device. I tried using the mix out to my Everse 12, but it sounded bad just louder. Oh well,,,
I find it funny how reviewers say “ They sent me this and I knew nothing about it”. Of course you knew, they had your address DUH! 😂😂😂
They sponsored a video of mine 3-4 years ago. But then, years later I opened the door and this was on my porch 🤷♂️
But yes, it is funny.
That green cable shooting out from the front side witch is pointed to the audience is so stupid, they should make it on a lower part of the mixer running directly to the floor, and black color.
Feedback eliminator is a sure sign there is not that much output. People trying to crank it up and feedback hits. Feedback eliminator really thins the sound out.
Biggest missing feature for me is phantom power 😔
Si, en el manual dice que tiene la función, pero no la encuentro por ninguna parte
best? have you tried ev everse, 8 or 12?
The breakaway controller, SD card recroding, USB interface, and extra inputs put this into another league - In my opinion.
@@kettnercreative you’ll change your opinion once you put both side by and listen!
The stacked fx, per channel giving you the possibility of running 8 different fx at once with a built in looper as well. I don’t doubt that the EV sounds great, but they’re not even the same category of product.
@@kettnercreative haven’t tried the statcked effects, have only seen that in Bose T4/T8 mixers before, and that’s a wonderful, rare feature, listened to both and I liked ev better, but I respect your opinion!
You as well. I just think they’re different products for different markets. The EV is a battery powered speaker with a DSP. The Mackie is a battery powered speaker with a (breakaway) digital mixer, looper, tuner, interface, and recording. I’ve never seen a speaker with this much functionality before.
WHy don't these companies ( i.e: Mackie, Bose, JBL ) ever think that a KEYBOARDIST or SYNTHESIST might want to use something like this to play out? ONLY Guitarists need apply! Wake up Mackie, Bose and JBL your snubbing a significant market share of potential customers by ignoring KEYBOARDISTS/SYNTHESISTS! Make a version with drivers optimized for keyboards/ synths and having line inputs ( mono and stereo ) capable of accepting keyboard and synth line outputs! How hard is this to do?
