Don't worry, this breed of parrot can live for 50 years and above. They can be passed on through few generations. 17 years can still be considered as young. If proper care is not taken these parrots are very short lived.

@@aurthokarim7946 our parrot lived for over 50 years until attacked by a rat. Few survive upto 75 years. But that depends on the sub species of parrot. Smaller ones live upto 10-12 years or even less.
This parrot which we had was a wedding gift to my maternal grandma by his father in law. The bird was 4 years older than my maternal uncle. So I don't need further proof to believe this.

@@aurthokarim7946 yes, it was. We call Alexandrian parrot as Pahadi tota. You can google it. In wild, they have 30 yrs life expectancy due to difficult conditions of survival. At home they are well taken care and thus they survive to become old enough.

I have the same breed alexanderin parrot 28 years old now . I was told that I was of 2 month of age then my father got it actually there where 12 some were given and some fly away. But 1 is still with me it's age is almost 28 years old now .. yes 28 years old and is happy bird . I love him very much
