  • Another rare review on the ‪@eastfieldgunroom‬ channel. A 1970's classic from a hugely respected Japanese manufacture from yesteryear. Renowned for their handling and durability, these guns were a huge hit in the 1970's and 80's here in the UK in particular.
    We are of course talking about Nikko/Shadow shotguns. As many top shooters will have 'cut their competition teeth' on these guns this review will no doubt bring back happy memories for many.
    Of course we wouldn't just settle for bringing you a review of one of Shadows basic models. As you would expect from Eastfield Gunroom, this is a special Shadow.

    Years back I owned a Nikko Shadow Indy Trap, absolutely stunning gun for that era.

    My late father shot a Shadow Indy skeet in the late 70s. He shot to a very high standard in what was then called ISU skeet. I remember the gun for its striking looks of the gun. From what I can remember, he was shooting against the likes of Brian Hebditch, Wally Sykes, Barry Simpson and Joe Neville plus many more. Thanks for another excellent video.

    Great Video! I own a similar gun marketed under the Miida brand. It is the Model Grandee Trap. Same style side plates, but in faux sidelock mode. All dark blue, 100% coverage with precious metal line engraving. Really cool, rare Japanese high end.

      Thank you for your comment. There was certainly a Grandee model under the Nikko brand too. Am guessing that Nikko were manufacturing under several names. Great guns. Kind regards, Matthew

    Hi Matt, now that takes me back to my early clay shooting days. what a lovely gun. I have never seen that particular model it being so rare but the Shadow range was very prominent in the late 70's/early 80's.
    Being as i shot DTL/ABT etc the Shadow Indy trap was right up there. If i remember correctly they had skip chequering.
    I didn't own one, i shot a Nikko 5000 /11 but i came across many Indys on the circuit. It was like looking down a motorway, we always reckoned that a light aircraft could land on the airflow rib!
    If a trap variant came up today i'd buy it if i was brave enough. It's always a bit of a gamble with spares availability i guess on discontinued guns of that age though.
    Anyway Matt keep these videos rolling with your inimitable style of presentation.
    Looking forward to many more. 👍

    • @eastfieldgunroom
      @eastfieldgunroom  Před rokem

      Thank you for your comment. As you say these guns were huge at that time. You are correct about the skip chequering on the Indy models. The 5000 II was the sort of 'bread and butter' model here in the UK. I have hundreds of those through my hands over the years.Superb guns Nikkos and I am glad the video gave you some nostalgia.Kind regards, Matthew

    I loved those wide ribs such stunning looking guns. I had a lovely little Nikko 20 bore which had a black action with a gold eagles head on it shot like a dream! Strangely it had manufactured by golden eagle firearms on the barrel but it was a nikko and had nikko on the but pad any info on that Matt

    • @eastfieldgunroom
      @eastfieldgunroom  Před 8 měsíci

      Thank you for your comment. I believe that the Nikko you are referring to was called a Golden Eagle/Falcon. I have never ever seen a 20g version. Nikko did manufacture under a couple of other names inc Shadow. Kind regards, Matthew

    The Kodensha plant made so many amazing bits of kit, can only imagine what they would be making today if olin/kodensha never went seperate , i'd argue kodensha guns where the best of the time from japan, miroku where and still are amazing and mechanically unburstable, but the fit and finish of the 101s and nikko's was just a little better in my opinion of the time

    Hi Matt, Is Kevin Borley still using his Nikko to this day, he has won an enormous of trap titles with this brand.

    • @eastfieldgunroom
      @eastfieldgunroom  Před rokem

      Thank you for your comment. I believe that he uses a Perazzi but I'm not sure. There is no doubt that in their day there was little to touch a Nikko. Kind regards, Matthew

      Hi John, i remember shooting with/against/at the same time as etc ...Kevin Borley at competition DTL back in the day. He was the guy to beat for sure, If i remember correctly he shot something like 600/700 first barrel kills without missing.
      Now that took some concentration. Happy days.

    I have shadow 7 indy,which I think is more attractive than this sideplated example. In particular the vented lined slots in the fore end are finer and the skip checkering far more attractive.
