    Hi! Does this vid also apply to prose? Do you have any advice in picking out the Super Six? Because the prose has various themes, how should I pick out the six quotes?

    • @KnowlandKnows
      @KnowlandKnows  Před 3 lety +6

      Hello - no, it works for poetry and drama as well. Make sure you get quotes from across the whole passage - beginning, middle and end. In general, focusing on imagery is useful - details that appeal to the five senses, especially metaphors and similes.

    Detailed video, this did help me understand quite a bit as to how I should write my response. However, our teacher strictly told us to never even consider using personal pronouns for AO4. They said that using personal pronouns will only deduct your marks. Any thoughts?

    • @KnowlandKnows
      @KnowlandKnows  Před 4 lety +5

      You don't have to use the first-person pronoun, but you definitely can. CIE's approved textbooks feature model answers that include it (tell your teacher to look them up). And the Chief Examiner encouraged it in a meeting I was in. So that's why I recommend doing it once or twice: it won't hurt and will probably help.

    • @KnowlandKnows
      @KnowlandKnows  Před 3 lety +4

      No, for high marks you'll need to give more detailed analysis than just saying 'good words'. Remind yourself to add 'because', 'as' or 'since' every time. It's safest to use the wording of the question, e.g., 'these words create a striking effect because ....'

    “This is where the poet emphasises his” because only male poets exist apparently

    • @KnowlandKnows
      @KnowlandKnows  Před 3 lety +20

      You sound like the sort of person who thinks 'man' as, for example, zoologists would use the term - e.g., 'man inhabits all climatic zones' - means male human beings only. Do you also refer to female poets as poetesses?
      It's better for clarity not to distract from the point being made with his/her and him/his, especially as once you start that then, for consistency, you have to include name's, zirs, hirs and whatever else got invented 5 minutes ago.
