Madara Uchiha was the legendary leader of the Uchiha clan. He founded Konohagakure alongside his childhood friend and rival, Hashirama Senju, with the intention of beginning an era of peace. When the two couldn't agree on how to achieve that peace, they fought for control of the village, a conflict which ended in Madara's death. Madara, however, rewrote his death and went into hiding to work on his own plans. Unable to complete it in his natural life, he entrusted his knowledge and plans to Obito Uchiha shortly before his actual death. Years later, Madara would be revived, only to see his plans foiled and ultimately, and finally, realising the error of his ways and making amends with Hashirama before his final death.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with Madara being well-written. The reincarnation nonsense is basically his drive of character, and what could've been a great villain was cut short from Kaguya's shitty presence.

Madara is the best villain in Naruto. Obviously, Pain is up there. But, his conclusion was bad. Madara's character was well written and brilliant.
The reason why Madara was back stabbed is because introducing Kaguya would give the Boruto series more viewership since the "Otsutsukis" play a huge roll there. It was a business move.
Not really, Madara become 10 tail jinchuriki, with both Indra and ashuras chakra and black zetsu being a otsusiki backup file just took over madara to come back as kagyua because zetsu is kagyuas backup file

You could argue that Madara is not the strongest character, but he easily takes home the title of being the most tenacious. The dude is like Vegeta. This guy was literally evolving and creating strategies while he single handedly was taking on the entire shinobi world. I think his genius is overlooked because of his raw power and exuberant personality. One of my favorite fictional characters of all time.

Not only that but he absorbed massive amounts of Chakra several times, therefore replenishing his Chakra levels and even heightening them from his base form.

Madara's dream of peace was justified, given how he witnessed his brothers die on the battlefield and anyone else he cared for. Thus to create a world where there are no wars and those who were gone are still there.

Love the detailed review! Madara was truly a great villain. I do think the zestu backstab was stupid and kind of ruined it but was still good I guess. I think if they mentioned and hyped up hashirama and madara(madara at the least) then It would've made the fourth shinobi war waaaaaaay more satisfying and I think Masashi Kishimoto wouldn't even felt like he needed Kaguya.

Basically their story is the description of the Entire Naruto storyline.
It's all about peace, but not everyone has the same vision of peace. Madara wanted Peace, Pain (the akatsuki) wanted Peace, generally speaking every villian in Naruto can also be considered a hero in some way. And that's why I fucking love this anime so much.
