- Watch how Skye Weavers design and weave their woollen cloth, scarves, throws and more. Follow their footsteps across the hills of Skye to find inspiration for their designs. Join them in the workshop and see how they wind the warp threads on a home-built warping mill. Watch them weave on their bicycle pedal-powered loom! www.skyeweavers.co.uk
That’s quite the loom!
Fantastic
Magnificent!
What a wonderful career! Love Scotland, love weaving!! They have it all! Wish you much success.
Thank you very much! Hope you can come and visit us on Skye some time!
How wonderful! As a hand weaver I just loved seeing this. :)
Absolutely amazing! It's the essence of making a life from weaving: not as simple and time-consuming as handweaving nor industrialized as power looms. Congratulations from Brazil.
Hi, thank you for watching our little video! I'm glad you liked it. You are totally right, pedal power is the perfect fusion of hand-weaving and production weaving. And we love cycling!
This is an incredible video. How they weave is completely brilliant!
Come and visit our workshop if you're ever on Skye. You can try out the pedalling yourself! www.skyeweavers.co.uk/find

I met you yesterday and found your channel! Incredible machine and such beautiful creations! I hadn’t imagined that you actually make stuff with the wool you weave in the same place!! Such a talented lady!!! Claire x
Thanks for checking us out Claire! I just had a look at the huge variety of things you're doing. So impressive - and I really like your video editing.

@@SkyeWeavers This is for our art class. We get a paper with a bunch of youtube videos about weaving and after we watch it we answer some questions about the video
Marcus GUY how interesting! Hadn’t realised we’ve turned into homework like that 😁 Hope it’s all easy to understand.

Acidicdino congratulations!!
Hi sorry this is 9 years late, but this fascinates me that the loom is "bicycle" driven, but I can't figure out how the weft is passed. Is there a video on this part?
Hi, our looms are rapier looms. I haven't got a video of the weft insertion on CZcams, but if you search for 'rapier loom mechanism' there's lots of great videos and explanations by other people. A rapier loom uses a rapier or rapier head to insert the weft threads. In our case they're hooked up on the left and pulled through to drop off point on the right. Every weft thread is an individual thread, not an ongoing one as in a shuttle loom.
@@SkyeWeavers fascinating! will check it out, thank you!
