While our goal is to be well rounded athletes on two wheels, and ready to jump into any kind of mountain bike discipline at a moment’s notice - well, the reality is a little more complicated. Racing at a high level means being highly specialized and for the past few years we’ve had a big weakness that we really needed to address: going uphill.

This is the guy that broke his pelvis on JR 4 years ago. Just found out that it was you two that were the first to come to my rescue that day. Thank you for your help back then. Have had a full recovery from that crash(6 months before I could ride again). Had no idea it was you two that came to my rescue first back then until now. Cool that we have ridden together since at Pajarito as well. Love your videos and I’m sure we’ll see each other on the trails again after I recover from my broken thumb.

Sorry to hear about the thumb. Hope it heals up as well as the pelvis did (since we'd never have guessed you'd broken your pelvis from watching you ride now).
I heard you mention that someone broke their pelvis at one point. I got tangled up with a dog Labor Day weekend on my road bike and ended up in the hospital with a broken pelvis and 4 broken ribs. Five weeks with no road or mountain biking has been rough. Watching your videos has helped reduce my anxiety of not being able to ride.
The ribs suck, nothing to do but sit. I just went over the bars on my mini e-bike because the 12" front tire couldnt roll over a fist sized rock(dark and didnt see it) and took the bars into my chest as I slammed the ground and its so painful just taking deep breaths

@@powskierUnfortunately I also had a bad concussion and have no memory of that day. We suspect it was a dog that caused the crash because the lady that found me said I was semi-conscious and mumbling about a dog. The good news is that my bike didn’t sustain any major damage and my Syd & Macky jersey didn’t get torn. 😊
@@powskierThe dog should be dead. The dog could have caused a human death. The dog owners should be held responsible.
Cycling interval workouts are fantastically effective at increasing both strength and aerobic fitness. I started doing them regularly during my commute a couple of years back, and was amazed at how fast and far my weight dropped and my ability to climb and stay with younger riders out on the trails improved. They are, however, terrible things to do; painful physical and mentally.
"The trails are pretty rough" is kind of the understatement of the week :-D
Nice riding and I got butterflies in my belly when Macky repeatedly flew off the jumps. Looking forward to the upcoming episodes.

Love the Friday video releases, great motivation for the weekend. And perfect timing on this one, I'm doing a 6hr endurance race on Sunday with about 1hr+ laps. Same trail network they do a couple enduro events, so its all uphill in one shot, and then all downhill. Except the clock doesn't stop.

Used to love hitting the bike park to acclimate to higher altitude with less uphill peddling before a race or a big ride in the high mountains.
Thankfully I read one of the response comments below about the extra $10 off of the Amazon purchase. Probably don't need it but cool tool for traveling or just the pre-ride top off.

It's good to see the WFO in action. I bought one a couple of months ago, when Jenson had a big sale. Macky's review earlier in the year helped with that decision. Fade To Black was sold out, but the red looks better in person than online.

Macky, I also replied to another comment below about the possibility of having your rebound set a little too slow. When I watched your first run your fork seemed so chattery. Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

The thing about rebound is that too fast and too slow will make your fork chattery, but in different ways. I'm pretty happy with my surprising setup and suspect that what you're seeing is simply how rough the trail is.

A passion for aggressive climbing is what distinguished most pro riders I have known. I don't have it. Most people ride up to go down. The best I have known seem to invert that somehow. It seems like a different hunger.

On your first run when you lost it on that off camber turn, were you able to see over the grass? From the video that turn was really hidden but it's hard to tell because we sit about a foot under your chin. You did have loads of speed going into it but I feel like we saw you hit 60 to 0 faster in Downieville... always hard to tell on film what the rider sees and what we the viewer see.

what a shame the little pump with discount is not for the uk.
Something you might want to try to reduce or eliminate arm and hand pump. Get a heavy bag some hand wraps and/or gloves, do boxing routine a few days a week. It has help me a lot doing this.
Suspension and brake setup will help a lot here too. It's hard to tell, but it looked like the rebound was a bit slow from the vid. Would love to hear Macky's thoughts on this.

What is the desired tire selection for the enduro bikes? Liners? pressure? TIA
Totally depends where you ride, trail types, and riding style. Up in the PNW/North Shore, there is very little need for inserts. Most run Maxxis, Schwalbe, or the new Continentals with some Specialized thrown in. Pressures are lower than XC because that traction is much needed.
Unfortunately the code doesn't work from Europe Amazon 😢 maybe it's just me but I'd appreciate more promotions which also available outside of US.
Do you do any altitude training similar to what the pro peloton does in Europe?
Well, we live at 7200 ft (2400m) so pretty much all of our training is at altitude 😁
