  • Part one of two videos. • Maytag Bravos pt 2. Wa... I wanted to make a video showing what could be wrong with your washing machine if it will not agitate. Mine was not fixed by just removing the coins caught in there. I had to replace the washplate. Hope this helps someone.

    Well, I had a tough time getting my Maytag bravo’s agitator off. Ended up breaking the agitator, then had to drill two tiny holes and then split it with a chisel. The hub plate gear teeth were stripped out. A lot of work but well worth the trouble. New agitator plate $30, new Hub kit $10.

    Like your wash plate my teeth are rounded down and very rusty. Bought a new wash plate installed it and it lasted for 7 months and the teeth are worn out again. I think the shaft has become rounded a bit and it's not a snug fit. I think the transmission part with the shaft is 180 bucks but not to difficult to change out but at this point I might as well buy new washer.

    $120 for a new washplate? Not a tightwad like me. I knocked out the old splined insert and used a good epoxy to form a new insert where the old insert was. The key is to let the epoxy cure to a putty consistency before setting it over the shaft. Should be as good as a new one because the new washplates have plastic splines.

    I'm a service tech over 30 yrs,those plates dont always come out,usually I have to vreak the plastic off the sleeve,then use a puller then the coupler below is stripped because the shaft is corroded,usually thwe basket gets walllered out and ruined also, or, the basket is stuck,have to use a special tool to remove it. Its a poor engineered design they don't make this design anymore it was aweful

    Really appreciate this video. I think I am having the same exact issue. My worry is with mine, that little cap keeps popping off and the bolt keeps getting lose. I would tighten the bolt, and then after a few washes, it would stop agitating and that cap would pop off and the bolt would get loose again. You think it’s still just the wash plate that needs to be replaced? So my issue is it doesn’t agitate and the bolt keeps getting loose

    I have a maytag Bravos washer that barely agitates. I have replaced the gear case, wash plate, hub, splutch kit with belt, recalibrated the P.O.S. No error codes found. @@MrTindallb Finally figured out what was wrong with it. The so called actuator has an internal crappy plastic pin that drives the cam that enables the splutch to engage with the gearbox. That P.O.S. plastic piece broke off! Took the actuator all apart and modified it with ground up screws to act as pins. Reassembled, installed and calibrated and now it's as good as new. Hopefully this helps someone out there with the same problem...

  • @paul7232
    @paul7232 Před 2 lety

    The center plastic drive hub is not the cause of the agitator not spinning.
    The agitator is driven by shaft splines under the cap and nut. A loose nut will cause no agitation as will worn splines inside the plastic agitator plate. Loose change is an unlikely cause.
    To remove the plate remove the cap and bolt and soak hole with a rust penetrant. Put rags around basket to keep penetrant out-of tub slots. While it is soaking cut a wire clothes hanger in the middle below the hook. Bend each cut end to an 80 degree (or so) hook. Insert each hook into a hole on opposite sides of the agitator and gently tap up under the hook. If it doesn’t budge rotate the hanger to another set of holes 90 degrees from the first.
