This new series of tutorials shows you how to create simple but eye-catching materials in Unreal Engine 5. The first one is a cool plastic shader using just one texture. It's super simple, so don't worry if you're new to this.
    Let's get started!
    00:00:00 intro
    00:00:09 create a new material
    00:00:17 activate subsurface scattering
    00:00:31 specular node
    00:00:41 base color node
    00:00:52 subsurface scattering node
    00:01:02 roughness map
    00:01:41 invert the texture
    00:02:00 scalar ramp functionality
    00:03:31 TextureCoordinate node
00:04:57 Height map to Normal map
    00:06:46 VectorNoise node

Great tutorial, you're clearly very talented! I just wanted to ask where exactly we can all get the texture you use within this video? I've taken a look at your pateron and there isn't any resource to download.
Also for a possible future a video/series would it be possible to break down the material editor and what each component you use does? I'm very new to this and only understood a portion of what of what you did. Thanks! :]

Thanks! I used only one grayscale texture (it was from the Greyscalegorilla pack). You can easily find similar textures online for free!
Thanks for your suggestion, I'll release a new series on material nodes soon! 👍

May I ask, how can we add finger prints and smudges to this shader?

    • @polyjam.studio

To add fingerprints, you can use the roughness channel if you're using the traditional material system. If you're using Substrate, you can add an additional layer, as I explained in my car paint tutorial. Regarding smudges, I haven't found any solution for this. 😥You can bake the 3D model with Substance and create a map
