Not nearly long enough for the amount of damage he did to so many people.
Most of the money has already been recovered by the bankruptcy trustee. Investors and depositors can expect to be made whole. Most were institutional investors or shady characters. That why there was the money laundering charge.
@@seanwebb605 If you engage in very creative accounting, you can conclude that, but a responsible person does not think that way. If you lost 1 BTC when the scam collapsed, it was worth $17k, and that $17k is what you might get repaid this year. But that BTC today is worth about $70k. So you're out over $50k. Call it opportunity cost, whatever. This lost money also drove a lot of people and companies into bankruptcy, ruined lives and careers. And it's not clear if individual investors will get anything, and of course they're the ones hurt the most.
To say that it's only institutions hurt is silly, since those institutions are owned by people. Pension plans will be poorer, people who were depending on investment income to retire will have to work longer, and so on. It was a massive crime with many victims who will never recover.
