  • They saw my pale complexion and aversion to daylight eccentric, attributing it to my dedication to scholarship. Little did they know, the truth was far more chilling. As the moon cast long shadows through the gothic windows, I retreated to my private chambers, the thirst rising within me like a tide. A little crimson drop fell onto the brittle page of a forgotten manuscript, a stark reminder of the hunger I eternally battled. I, the guardian of knowledge, was also a creature of darkness, forever bound to the shadows.

By far the best YT channel for ambience music. Put on some Chronoscapes tunes, slide into deep focus workflow and get shit done. 🖤

For the record, reading "Dark Matter" by Blake Crouch to this composition...very apt at times.

Psst, the librarian's secret is that he forgot where he placed the Encyclopedia of Bulgarian Mountain Mosses. So he just deleted its existence from the records. This required tracking down the original author, though, and killing him. Aleksander Ivanof now lies at the bottom of a lake, weighed down by walnuts (the librarian had a lot of them, and they make for poor deadweights so he injected them with librarian's ink). And not a day goes when, while stamping out books at the library, he doesn't pause to think of poor Aleksander.
But then, one fateful evening, he found the Encyclopedia, wrongly shelved next to Petrov Kalabandar's classic tome on quantum physics. Oh what a waste! He needn't have died after all. Why on earth did someone shelve it there? He took the book from the shelf, causing the book on quantum physics to fall to the ground. It opened. A small written message on that weird page that always says "left intentionally blank". The librarian took a closer look: "He's dead. But with the right perspective, he's alive," he muttered the message under his breath and looked at a nearby professor perusing the physics section. "Ah," said the prof. "I've been looking for that." But as the prof reached out, the librarian batted his hand away. "What on earth is wrong with you?" asked the prof. "I have plenty more walnuts, professor!" snapped the librarian, scuttling away with the two books clasped under his arm.
Night enveloped the library like a brooding bird. The librarian knew something was hatching in his mind, but what? He read the pages of the quantum physics book -- the key, it appeared, was in removing the observer effect. And thereby, return Aleksander from his single definite state--dead--to a superposition of pure potential. "Remove the observer," said the librarian. "Remove...myself?". No, surely not. The book explained, there was another way: quantum feedback reversal. This part of the book was written entirely in the margins, free hand. "If I can do this," whispered the librarian, "I can not only bring back Aleksander... I can reverse collapsed quantum wave functions all over the place... I can reverse
The librarian looked at the picture of his wife above the fireplace. "I can reverse collapsed quantum wave functions all over the place."
He nibbled a walnut and read on.
