Biggest take away I got from this, besides the calculator, is that Johnny’s has so many resources on its site that I should be $pending more time on there checking them out. 😉😉😉😉

Nicole- just wanted to encourage you. I know after doing something for any amount of time it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle (don’t think you’re struggling with that specifically) but I know how it’s nice to be reminded how much of a difference you make. You alone have inspired me to pursue my dreams and the desire to grow cut flowers. It’s honestly scary! But I felt God nudge me so you know I had to do it and you’ve been my main role model. Im just grateful for your yes to your purpose and your willingness to film the process and bring joy to your people. Before I lay my head down I’m going to pray fervently for you and thank God for your life and the precious soul you have and for your family ❤️🙏 may God bless and keep you and as you go through your week just know you’re so loved and cherished from people all over the earth. Thank you for showing the Johnny's calculator! I was using a paid layout program last year that was just meh.... I used Johnny's library for other things and somehow overlooked that feature!

That beginning was hilarious and so timely! Thanks for sharing that calculator-I was a little perplexed as to how I was going to figure out the number of seeds. The calculator takes the guesswork out of it for me. Even though I am in 6b, our last frost date is mid May, so I haven’t started anything yet either, but I am ready to go.

This summer everyone will be growing sunflowers to show solidarity with 🇺🇦
Last year I grew dwarf sunflowers. Loved them, but the resident squirrels bit many of the heads off and dragged them away ☹️
Half a minute in and already cracking me up. Definitely a wild one and I throw in way to much. Actually been spacing my stuff from last year out more, i always get way to excited and fail to remember that plants grow 😅

I was glad to hear you say you had not started the grow along yet. I was feeling very behind watching all the post, but over here in Oswego our last frost date is April 28.
Great information. Have started 4 of my seeds already. Now I have to go back and start more if I want to fill my bed. Zone 9a.
OK Brilliant idea for Winter Sowing idea time- Stackable Planters from the Dollar and a Quarter Tree. Thinking about buying clear plastic round salad storage bowls from there as well, to make domes for each pot. This is a great idea for those (like me) who do not have a lot of room, and/or you don't want a bunch of plastic jugs all over the place. These stackable planters can be reduced to fit in a box when not in use. And you can have them delivered to your door online. And after you transplant you can grow lettuce or herbs in them. My only issue is- we have squirrels that knock everything over in the winter. So I'll have to secure them somehow. Peace🌱
If I remember correctly, when I looked at the stackable planters, there was enough space in the middle to drill a hole..... drill down through your stack of planters and secure with a piece of re-bar or a dowel of some kind.... that's what I'm planning on trying 😊

@@klcpca I've seen videos of that, I like it. But I'd like to be able to spin it. I'm thinking floral wire and a wheel tray bottom. Then maybe just a Bungee Cord to a T Post? Maybe sit the planter on a big square stepping stone (so it can spin). I think I'll UV spray all the plastic pots first. Maybe spray paint them. Well I ordered a box of 36 last night. 36 X 3 = 128 planting spots! LOL That may be a little more than I need. (But I bought a bunch of lettuce from Johnny's). Let me know how yours turns out.

Oh my gosh Nicole, thank you for this! I had no idea that was on Johnny's seeds. Last year I did really well with my dahlias, celosia, ninebark, muhly grass, white wands, hellebores and slew of herbs and a few veggies. This year I think I went a little nuts on all the seeds and it can be overwhelming thinking about how to plan out to do this and how much of somethings I will need. It's going to be interesting seeing it all come together. I'm concerned with not know when to succession plant some of these. I also really hope the new ones I picked to try out will do well here in TN. Thanks again!!

Squirrels and rabbits are my two garden nemeses. Squirrels will take a bite out of the forming sunflower head or chew the entire head off and abscond with it ...dang little bandits!
Squirrels can, at least temporarily, be stopped by mentholatum on the rims of pots (thank you, Linda Vater) or chicken wire cloches (Gardeners Supply). No rabbits so far, but an armadillo appeared today and tilled some soil.

I started mine already. Sunflowers and zinnias are doing great but sowed them way too close! Basil is iffy. The other three didn't make it. :-( Totally my fault. I decided to re-sow snap dragons using an extra seed packet. Will try spacing them out as recommended. I can't wait to see how this grow along turns out.

I started to measure my plants distancing, but I thought some I can plant closer, and veggies need the room. I started the 12 inch square model . Some plant all 12 inches apart
I am in 7B and started rocket mix snapdragon seeds about two weeks ago. I added another tray of Potomac snapdragon from Johnny’s which were left over from last year. Both trays have germinated but I got less than 50% rate from Rocket mix, while Johnny’s Potomac gave me 95% germination rate. Not sure what I missed. Just thought I would start about twice amount of Rocket Mix seeds for the succession that I will be doing tomorrow…
Thanks for your germination rate info. I'll be starting snaps in a couple weeks (I'm in 6b, high desert with June 1 last frost date). I'll try starting some extra seeds.
How do you know how many rows you a can do?
Thank you for the info!! Will def check it out! I have seeded baby’s breath & snap dragons. The baby’s breath didn’t come up. I don’t know why? The snaps are about inch or two tall doing ok. Started out little leggy but I think because my grow light is too tall. So I rigged it so it’s closer to my plants. I need different lights that I can adjust heights. Anybody else have trouble with germination so far?

Hi Nicole ! Got a question! Answer when you can. I am getting lisianthus seed shipped to me in about one weeks time , probably will arrive on March 9, 2022 , I am in zone 5 b, should I start them or put them in fridge and save them for January 2023? Thank you Maureen
question for you and fellow seed starters in the comments- when do you give up on waiting for a seed to germinate? Unfortunately 4 out of the 5 packets I've bought from a particular site have not germinated in 3 weeks. All my other seeds from all the other suppliers are growing. The seeds are lisianthus so I know they sometimes take a while butttttttt all the others are going.
Should I scrap them now and move on?
May be a silly question...are we succession planting the seeds? Or do we succession plant our seedlings into the garden? Or not succession planting at all? 😅

It asks how many rows you will be planting across the depth and uses that number.

What kind of plastic are you putting on your beds?
It's not a plastic, it's a biodegradable mulch made from corn. It's called Bio-360.

If you mean when you are actually planting them, you can. A lot of people lay down the hortonova netting to create little spaces to fill.
