    I love your packaging. I have just designed my first label and have so much to learn, mine is still very simple so I really appreciate anything you can share about the technical side, things like actually using publisher or in design or whatever you do. And I'm so grateful for you showing people how much work actually goes on behind the scenes, because it is a lot! Thanks Tiggy x

    Hi Tiggy. I have been watching your videos for the past year, and have found some from earlier years. I love the fact that you show what happens when things accelerate. Seeing this video, shows how much more there is to do, behind the scenes. Enjoy your chat as well. I am hoping to make some soap for family and friends for gifts. Fell and fractured my hip just before Christmas and have a whole new hip. The hip is healed, just have to get all muscles in shape. Once all healed will begin with the soap. Hope you and yours are well. Take care.

      Prayers as you heal! I had a knee replacement Dec 2019, just after I began soapmaking for family and friends. Now, I have herniated L4-L5 & I'm waiting on fusion surgery. I miss making soap so much. It's addicting in the best of ways💙💜❤

    Great packaging! Works well with your branding. My background is long time graphic designer so very familiar with all the Adobe apps. InDesign is great for creating labels. I use Illustrator for my labels. . FYI, Photoshop is a pixel based app, so text will not print as crisp as a vector app like Illustrator or InDesign. Photoshop is dependent on the resolution of the file.

    • @angelbear_og
      @angelbear_og Před 3 lety

      High res JPGs are fine, you just have to know what you're doing in regards to print quality (300 ppi), and Ps DOES suppport vector objects in addition to raster ("pixel-based"). That being said, Ps is painful to use for typesetting precisely (unless you practice a lot, I suppose). I stick with either InDesign (preferable) or Illustrator for ease of use.

    See the labeling drives me crazy with that international protocol lol. Because I feel like not very many people know the technical Latin names for plants and their oils and it might spook them. Also I’m lazy 🤣

  • @LadyGecko
    @LadyGecko Před 3 lety

    In the US labels must contain the name of your company, the name of your product, what the product is (soap), where it is manufactured, weight in ounces and grams. That’s it. You legally don’t have to include an ingredients list (only for true soap), but if you do, you have choices. You can usual what goes in the pot by most to least, or you can use “saponification oils of...”.

    Your reporting/packaging process is similar to our Canadian laws. We aren’t required to get assessments, but even body products/soaps given as gifts are required to be reported to our portal.
    There are many, many makers that do not follow the rules and most of them get away with it. I know a soap maker that adds over 5% lemongrass when the IFRA limits in our country are well below 1%. Makes me grumpy 😅

    My goodness Using those required names no one in the public buying will know what it is without looking each up... sometimes legislation is non sense although to me. In Aus we have similar on food packaging but you need to wonder around with a list to see what it is. Well done for sticking with it I’d have given up .

    You *can* use the fancy glyphs in Word 2010 (and higher) -- *sometimes*. Search "stylistic sets." For me, the preview shows the alternates, but some typefaces don't actually change it in the document. I tried with an OTF and a TTF that I downloaded: no joy. Tried with Windows default font Gabriola and it worked. That being said, you can get InDesign for about $30 a month, or Illustrator for about $20 and use any glyph in any typeface as The Tig stated. ^_^ ID & Ai are , in my experience, FAR easier to use for typesetting than Photoshop (which is designed for photo manipulation, not typesetting) -- or MS Word. If you don't need Adobe for longer than a month you can export to PDF or high-res JPG (remember: 300 ppi!) and cancel the subscription. Or you can pay someone who has Adobe apps to do it for you. ^_^
