    If you build and price out a gas 2500 LT midnight edition with all the options it comes to $66k. If you do the same with a 1500 RST 6.2, it comes to $64k. Only 2k more for the HD. The even more wild thing is if you build and price out a fully loaded Ram 1500 Laramie sport edition or F150 Lariat sport, both come out to over $70k. That makes Chevy’s 2500 a no-brainer.

    As an owner of the the 6 speed version I can pretty confidently say the biggest difference is going to be passing power (40-70 mph) and towing, especially grades but maybe even flat ground due to the true direct drive ratio now (1:1 7th gear).
    I don’t think 0-60 or normal cursing will be much different. In fact another channel has done 0-60 testing and it was actually just a tick slower. This makes sense if you’re a drag racer because you end up with an extra shift with this 10 speed as compared to the 6th speed. Anyways, towing grades and 40-70 will be a big difference because the 6 speed always has needed another gear between 2nd and 3rd and this 10 speed will have 2 between those comparable ratios.
    It’s a bummer they didn’t go with the 10 speed back in 2020 because a lot of people kind of down the 6.6 gas engine for power when the reality was the 6 speed transmission tuning just wanted the truck to get into high gear as soon as possible. So it lets the engine lug more and then with a pretty wide gear spacing between 2nd and 3rd I can see why people would complain about power in just normal driving. You go WOT though and the 6 speed will go. This 10 speed will go better now and the drivability will be much improved due to the close gear spacing from 3rd-7th.

  • @derekvargason
    @derekvargason Před rokem +5

    I don’t think they needed to go to a 10 speed, I’ve towed with my 6.6 6 speed a lot and now I’m sitting at 60k miles no issues, working the truck hard with a 10k excavator on a 3.5k trailer up long steep grades it pulls hard up to 60ish and kinda falls off after that but does not get hot and for a gas truck this is absolutely amazing. No sense in buying a high maintenance cost diesel anymore

I have heard about the oil consumption but I have not experienced it myself with mine. I checked mine regularly over the course of several oil changes when the truck was around 50K miles. over the course of 5,000 miles on an oil change with synthetic oil it had only dropped a little below the full mark on the dipstick. I repeated this for 3 oil change intervals and got the same result. The oil consumption issue is something to be aware of, but I do not think it's super common.

    If I wasn't pulling a huge 20,000 5th all the time, just driving the truck around with occassional towing usage, then gas would be the way for me! Far too much hassle with diesel for just a vehicle that I use to go to the mall or grocery store. If you're looking for a good "car" to use that can also tow like a MFer occassionally (some boat weekends, random rv trips, maybe a flat bed with landscaping stuff, etc) then this could be great. I fear that for those folks who wanna be "full time RVers" then the decision is always going to be diesel for the mountain pulling and long haul performance compared to gas.

Ford has 4 different options with gas and diesel engines. Last I knew of the 6.6l gas engine uses oil. If they get the front end looking better stop the oil consumption and offer different rearend ratios it might be more appealing. Until then I’m still a ford man.

      @Ernest Vocell Chevrolet has been using Rancho shocks for quite a while now on the Z71 trucks. The Rancho shocks failed after 2 and a half years on my Z71. They have progressively gotten worse in quality over the years. Those Ranco shocks on the Z71s now are the same as the $20 - $30 dollar versions that can be found online. On vehicles in this price range, I expect higher quality.

    How is this a game changer?
    Fords had a 10 speed with the gas since 2020, unless you mean it's a game changer to only itself vs a 6 speed.

    I own a 2022 Silverado 2500HD gas with the 6 speed. My wife has a 2020 Yukon Denali with the 10 speed. The 10 speed is awful. It's constantly shifting from 0-45mph. I much prefer the 6 speed.

    No thanks. I will stick with the proven 6L90E that has a track record of being a 250k mile and beyond transmission. Not everyone is trying to tow max payload like a diesel. Many of us just want a good fleet transmission that will last, provide good service, and heaven forbid not cost a fortune to replace if it does fail.
