    I came here to see Pau Casals...What I did not know is, I would also find my friend, the late Robert Berks, sculpting Casals as he spoke. Two great artists together. Magical.

    I'm from Québec and i'm reading some comments under Pau Casals videos and I understand so much the feeling of Catalans when they talk about their culture or the independance... We are in the same position in the Canada... I wish you the liberty for your nation as much as for us.

      Yes, you are absolutely right, and he had his Pablo Casals Festival there in Puerto Rico every year. People would travel all over the world just to see him. My grandparents always did.

  • @TheTradge
    @TheTradge Před 15 lety

    No you're wrong, his full name was Pau Casals i Defilló, but was known as Pablo Casals during his professional career. It was sort of an early 20th century stage name, but his real name was Pau.

  • @aaronegro
    @aaronegro Před 16 lety +1

    Is it so difficult calling him by his name? PAU.
    It is so frustrating having to find the best composer of my nation in the language that franco used to punish us... Identity is just one and the only one.

    Maybe you do not know the speech he did in the ONU Council... I will paraphrase him "But let me say one thing, I'm a catalan, today a province of Spain. But what has been Catalonia? Catalonia has been the greatest nation in the world..." Of course he is the master of himself, and he decided to be a catalan. I pray you respect for what he wanted to be. Don't talk if you don't know what you're saying.

  • @EsmeraldaZenteno
    @EsmeraldaZenteno Před 10 lety +1

    Pau Casals i Defilló was his birth name & Pablo Casals was his stage name. His mother was Catalan born in Puerto Rico. Which technically does not make her Puerto Rican since her ancestry is not Puerto Rican.
    I am sure most of us here have commented because some how his music is of importance to us.
    Pablo Casals is the reason I am a cellist. And will be until I die.

    • @jpereira6439
      @jpereira6439 Před 7 lety +2

      "Technically does not make her puertorican? What exactly is the "technical" aspect which you are trying to reference here? Does that mean that there are no puertoricans? After all, at some point most puertoricans were just like his mother, since Spaniards populated Puerto Rico and had children there. Were these children not puertorican, because of their "ancestry," but then somehow magically, their children did become puertorican, losing that ancestry in the process? How exactly does that work?

    racismo? ha ha ha, si te oyera Casals te diría muy bien lo que es el racismo y el genocidio; por desgracia aún apechugamos con la herencia de paquito y sus secuaces.
    En fin, la ignorancia es atrevida.

    CASALS MOTHER was PUERTORICAN. He lived in Spain and died
    in Puerto Rico. He might have been called Pau at home, I dont know.
    But internationally he WAS KNOWN as Pablo. THESE ARE FACTS,
    NOT OPINION, dedicated to all those for whom being Spanish or
    Hispanic is an Offense.
    By the way, is HIS MUSIC of any importance to any of you?

    the super-catalanist proclaims of this great master were originated because of the tremendous dictature he suffered; he had to leave catalonia because of the dictature, he and many many other intelectuals where persecuted in franco's time, for anybody living such unpleasant expierence is logical to develop an irrational hate to whatever has to do with Spain, but Spain is not Franco, totalitarism in Spain is over, allready for 34 years...

  • @clementi1234

    ...I can understand Pau Casals because he himself SUFFERED dictature, but let's not misunderstand the today's situation, please catalans, don't act like your enemy and destroy culture, , be smart, we have double treasure in catalonia:TWO languages. etc, , ..don't miss the oportunity.. don't let poiliticians and media tell you what to think, , what to hate, what is right and what is wrong, judge for yourselves, there's nothig bad in having two instead of one
