  • Continuing my trips out in Roland, my Suzuki Every minivan, I decided to explore my locality by taking in some of the completely unremarked upon but beautiful local shrines in Nara Prefecture and my own Mie Prefecture. As a bonus, it is also autumn meaning the trees and foliage was looking particularly beautiful around Mitsue Village and Misugi Town.
I also took in the Fukano Rice Terraces in Matsusaka City which afforded some wonderful views looking down through the mountain vista.
Join me for a trip in Roland my little Suzuki Every minivan where I take in lots of beautiful sights and also buy a couple of GameBoy games in a second hand store before winding up at my "local" skatepark in Matsusaka City to spend a few hours messing about on my skateboard.

Thank you, I will and am enjoying what I've played so far :) I think rural Mie and Nara strangely off the beaten track despite being in Kansai for most people. Nara for example has some of the smallest municipalities in Japan outside of it's more populous north, and sadly some of those will likely dwindle to virtually zero population not that far from now, maybe in 20 years or so. But it is a stunning area.

Road trips are the best! Ive been car camping(with station vagon) at north Norway last year and this year south Norway from Finland. I hope you post more videos like this, Japan is beautiful country for sure.

Thank you and your road trip sounds awesome! I love road trips, I always feel better knowing I can just get away and explore something new, hit the road and experience something. That's why I can't stand office jobs! Japan is very beautiful indeed and it's nice to experience the side of it away from its stereotypical image.

Great vlog as always Vix, the food looks amazing! Glad to see you still skateboarding and showing them kids how it's done at the end, haha. Have a good Christmas also!

I'd be terrified to do this on my own, even though I have a dog! Must be great to have the freedom to do this.

I guess over many years of being independent and fighting my little corner counts for something. Japan's a safe enough country so I don't feel too vulnerable sleeping in my van at night; but I understand why for some it's not as palatable!

Cool video! It appeals to me on so many levels: exploring shrines in Japan, encountering people, playing with children so that they see how it’s done. I love the part when you came back with a new game, like it was a secret item you discovered on your long quest as a reward! Or, by the way, you always find an opportunity to buy some. Rural Japan is so fascinating (Haruki Murakami is one of my favorite authors) and please never visit Kurouzu-cho!! The image of the Golden Kamui in the thumbnails of one of your videos caught my eye (I'll watch it later), because it’s one of my favorite manga! I studied the Ainu culture, and finding the manga was a serendipitous event and who would have thought it is one of the best manga I ever read? (Still reading, I’ve not reached the end yet.). Do you think Hokkaido will be one of your trips in the near future maybe? Keep up the good work!

Golden Kamuy is indeed fantastic and regrettably I have read very little of it since coming to Japan, but I think in a couple of years I should be able to read it in Japanese. I can already read some manga but it's just a bit above my level just because the historical references, I may pick up a volume all the same. As for whether I show people how it's done, I have an amazing array of how to fall over skills but so does every skater :)

@@vix_in_japan the manga gets darker and more violent as it goes on. There are some scenes that are not for the faint of heart, and they may not be to your taste (honestly I could do without them, but I still appreciate the other aspects of the manga.) I don’t want to spoil anything, but I just wanted to give you a heads-up in case you decide to continue reading it. As for my CZcams channel, please don’t take it as a reference to what my interests are, in case you were wondering. In fact, those are very old uploads and I use CZcams mainly to watch videos online that I save and organize into libraries. We are about the same age and we share very similar interests. Well, have a great Christmas!
