He won the third set and the match against Federer, but ended up losing the 2nd, 3rd set and the match against Djokovic in Montreal and Nadal in Rome. That first set against Nadal though....
The problème with Gulbis is that he said he don't really care about tennis. Also he didn't care about price money cause he had lot of money even before playing. He had the talent to be top 10 for long time, but in his head it was just a game. And so, he had no reason to compete at his best everytime. There are some players like that. I think about Kyrgios, Fognini... these kind of players don't play all the matches at 100%. They only play good when they want, when it's big matches and often when it's against big opponent.
@@Telescope1994Kyrgios is a way more richer than Gulbis. I forgotten which tournament he was thrown balls out cause he didn’t want to play anymore and in the after interview he said doesn’t want to play, he was already rich… it was young at the time, for a tennis player. He is the son of a malesian Princess( she left the crown, but the money stays😂😂)
@@TheseHoesAreLoyal i dont think so. i played very well. i even won a set against ATP 750 in team match. Gulbis has much better backhand than forehand.if you see his matches and count misstackes and winners on his forehand side, you would see it.
@@thebigmonstaandy6644 yeah you're talking about the same guy who managed to beat Fed at the 2014 RG by firing from all cylinders especially with his serve and forehand.
@@TheseHoesAreLoyal lol. did you see this match. Gulbis won becaurce Federer gave the match away. Every tennis player , who has great forehand , playes inside out forehand. but Gulbis almost never playes inside out forehand.how can you explane it?
Tennis viewers on CZcams cannot enjoy anything humorous it has to be who beats who and who has the best stats. Sometimes it’s hard to deny facts that if not hampered by injuries Gulbis would’ve been the goat. NO QUESTION.
Records of Gulbis with each one of the BIG 3: against Nadal 0-7 against Djokovic 1-7 against Federer 2-3 that means 3- 17 against The Big 3. Who toyed who?
Hi there, it should be said that winning any set 6:1 against Rafael Nadal on clay is a superb performance...we can say "almost toying" ... however E. Gulbis had always lost every match versus Rafa and didn´t prove his mental power though.
I remember when he win roger in Roland garos also his historic match with nadal i still think he is one of the best tennis player i even seen , big serve , super backhand forehand , dropshots everything was great,,i don't know why he suddenly disappeared...
He had the talent to play on their level, but as nadal pointed out, there’s more to winning a match then just hitting the best shots. It’s a shame he never lived up to his talent
Infuriating watching Gulbis, knowing how good he could be and just not applying himself. I think if you were to match up his skill with the big 3 competitiveness you have a multi grand slam winner.
There are a handful of players that I genuinely think would have smoked the big 3 if only they were a bit more mature and put in the necessary work and commitment . Gulbis is one of them, as well as kyrgios, nalbandian, fognini, soderling and a few others. These guys are scary when they're at their best.
Not sure that we have the same definition of "toying" with a player. Gulbis has a pretty low H2H record with the big 3. Winning a set here and there is not toying with the opponent :)
That forehand technique is wild. He started with a more conventional style and then decided to stick his hand out like a kid pretending to be a plane and his game went downhill…. Although seemed to hit it ok in that Nadal match. Anyway, very good player that unfortunately underachieved for his talent.
''TOYED'' LOL, that never happened, at least when it comes to Nadal and Djokovic! Gublis managed to win Djoko only once in his carear (2009 in Brisbane 6:4, 6:4) out of the eight matches they played and in the case of Nadal, he lost all seven matches they played!!! Hardly any sane person can call that TOYED unless if it's paid by Gublis' daddy to praise his son's tennis career!!

And then one day he decided to play challenger events and throw crazy tantrums.

Federer leads 3-2
Nadal leads 7-0
