There is a Swedish author that had the kraken described from a couple of norwegian fishers and in his bok from 1781 and acording to him the kraken is around 130 kilometers or 80 miles long. Arpund the same sice as the island of Öland on the eastern kost of Sweden.

There is the relation to the names of the revenant/sea-fae of Nordic-Iceleandic folklores - the Draugen-Draugr (whos said to camuflaged as sea-weed covered rocks near the shore) through this: (wikipedia, Kaken) "...Egede also wrote that the krake fell under the general category of "sea spectre" (Danish: søe-trold og [søe]-spøgelse), adding that "the Draw" (Danish: Drauen, definite form)..." The Kraken also similiar to the brazilian Lekuma and mexican cryprid L Cuero, his cousin the japanse Xizi, tge icelandic Vatnaormur.

I have a book on north mythology going into all the diffrent creatures there are, I just read about the kraken and, well, I never thought the pirates version would feel so small. The book features a quote from a swedish man who wrote a sentance or two in his book about the kraken. In the book he states it's small comparing it to a swedish island that is 137km long. That indicates that in some versions it's even larger, it also mentions it having a larger body with fins instead of just being an octopus. the tentacles was just for grabbing food and was hanging from the mouth of the beast, a bit like cthulhu. it was so big that it was often mistaken to be an island and it is said that some even went so far as to make a fire on top of the kraken before it noticed. it's droppings was good fish food and fishermen would often follow it to get lots of good fish, but when it went back down, a maelstrom would be created by it. The kraken liked eating people and it's also said to from time to time eat whole fishing fleets.
if you bothered reading this, thank you and as I am Swedish I can tell you that the translation would be octopus, not squid.

You didn't mention the book Dwellers in the mirage by Abraham Merritt. This fantasy novel is so beautiful, you cannot but be entirely mesmorized by the characters and the magical green of the underworld realm ruled by goddess Khalk'ru with a Kraken sigil. When I finished this book I cried, I wish it never ended so I could be forever in that mirage. Believe me I was there when I was reading it, I saw everything. It was magical. If there's any of you who haven't read it yet, please do, you won't be sorry, I promise you!

Honestly, I would not be surprised if the kraken or something very similar to it, existed. I mean we know more about space than our own oceans. Maybe that’s one of the reasons so many ships go missing in the Bermuda Triangle...😶
