Obesity is closely associated with drunkenness in the Bible and they both should be view in the same light. (See Deuteronomy 21:20; Proverbs 23:21)
So your point is very well taken and confirms the reality of the problem of obesity and drunkenness in this country.
In the United States, 36.5 percent of adults are obese. Another 32.5 percent of American adults are overweight. In all, more than two-thirds of adults in the United States are overweight or obese.
Alcohol is the most commonly used addictive substance in the United States.
More than half of all adults have a family history of alcoholism or problem drinking, and more than 7 million children live in a household where at least one parent is dependent on or has abused alcohol.
"Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering, and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof." Romans 13:13,14

this guys is the example of how a christian should live.
this goes to show christianity is NOT about stupid rules and regulations, and we as christians hate religious rules and can't stand rule ridden religious people.
all christianity is about is: living like Jesus. coming as you are, broken, hurt, and letting love have the first place in your life. thats it. the christians that actually understand this and live it out are so hated and it just boggles my mind how people hate on someone that just displays love. nobody ever said christians are perfect people and whoever believes that has a completely wrong and distorted view of christianity.

I'm sure your comment is well intended, but I was hoping I could kindly point out some scriptural inaccuracies in it. I don't mean offense but am hoping you'll appreciate these biblical truths being brought to your attention.
#1 Regarding the pharisees, Jesus actually said, "You must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach." (Matt 23). Jesus was against hypocrisy, not rule following.
#2 Jesus said, "If you love me, keep my commandments" (John 14:15). His core commandment was repentance (Matt 4:17).
#3 Christianity is religion (James 1:27) and it requires following rules to remain "unstained by the world."
#4 Jesus said "But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect" (Matt 5:48).
#5 You said we should just live as Jesus did, which is true, but you have to remember that He managed to obey every single rule of the old covenant law. Some people today preach that Jesus ignored the Mosaic law, and that is why the pharisees hated him. However, the only thing he disregarded was their unloving, man made corruption of God's laws. It was necessary for Christ to obey the law perfectly in order to become the perfect sacrifice and destroy the power of death and sin (Hebrews 10).
I pray this is helpful to you. God bless.

There are numerous biblical verses that you could twist to say that the Bible supports such.

While The bible does not say that drinking alcohol is a sin, rather getting drunk is, We should not be eager to indulge in something that could lead us into an altered state of mind. What's the point of drinking alcohol if you're not wanting to get a buzz? If you like the taste so much, drink the non alcoholic kind. Sometimes as humans we live with the mindset of " how much can I get away with and still go to heaven". This is a terrible mindset seeing we are to consider those around us who are weak and are not able to stop at one drink. Why drink something that has assisted in the deaths of countless people through car accidents, suicides, rapes, murders etc. Paul said in the New Testament "all things are lawful, but all things are not expedient" which simply means that as a Christian there are a lot of things we can do, but all things are not wise to do. This is not to condemn those that do, rather God's desire is that we seek to live a life that honors God in all things.

Before I finally gave up alcohol, I was trying to find different groups of people in the Christian community to get away from my old party life. I joined many different groups at different churches, and started Bible studies and other group studies. I truly was searching for different connections. After a while, everybody starts to get comfortable, and I began to notice that they had certain groups that they would go to the bars or drink, and do Bible study together. Some could have a few some got drunk. I started to look at pastors as well who drink and other people comparing myself. Even though I know, it is my personal choice to drink it confused me and me personally compared myself and kept me stuck and I said to myself if they can drink, I can drink as well. I used all the verses that talked about drinking in the Bible, but I really didn’t understand them. I’m happy to say that I broke free from alcohol and now I’m a certified recovery coach. I also studied intensely for the past five years and I actually know what it does to you physically and spiritually. I can’t unlearn what I’ve learned over the years and I also have studied intensely how alcohol was used back in biblical times and how it was mixed with water extremely lower level than we drink today. Another point I want make is no one, including my own husband had any idea that I struggled with alcohol and none of these people knew either. I have felt lead in my business as a recovery coach to help those that are in hiding as well. Believe it or not you sit next to them in church, they are in ministry, they are our community, they have great jobs, their business owners, and they are parents.

To be fair the Bible does comment on not making your brother stumble. If your brother views it as a sin to eat meat and he’s newer to his faith or doesn’t have as strong a foundation as you then it says don’t eat meat in front of him otherwise you could make him stumble. I thought that was very interesting, but I’m with you! God gave us alcohol/wine to enjoy! Even talks about it bubbling up joy in our hearts when we drink wine in the Old Testament. Moderation is key. Don’t drink to get drunk but drinking is totally acceptable. 🙏🙏🙏

for any weed smoker, there will be a day down the line where you wouldn't be enjoying it as much and would actually start to not be yourself and even miss being sober and enjoying life like ususal. You would miss sleeping like you used to, your anxiety and stress handling wouldn't be effective anymore and god forbid if you get Pyschosis.. point is, you would be quitting it after being disgusted about what it did to you.
hence, don't get into Weed, its pretty addictive for you as a coping mechanism and to get that cheap domaine hit. Just wanted to share and helpfone left.note.

Looking through the comments, it's very logical to assume atheists are in the same pool as Christians. I'm agnostic simply because I do not claim to know what's out there. Atheists bash Christians just as much as it is the other way around. This does not mean every atheist bashes a christian, but most do. Also not every Christian bashes atheists, but most do. It's all about strong beliefs. Sorry Christians, there is no way to prove God exists, but if you've went through a life change that has convinced you that he is real, then I'm happy that you have something to believe in. and also, Sorry Atheists, you can't prove God isn't real. Whether it's the Christian god or any other god, you have no idea. and you follow a theory just like Christians follow one. It's really no different. I just hate atheists who act like they're smarter than Christians because of having no religious faith.

    • @gcollin75

Personally I think Atheists are more intelligent than Christians solely because they look at the facts before them and make logical decisions based on that, Christians on the other hand rely on mysticism and the teachings of their parents to make decisions about what they believe. I would also classify myself as an Agnostic just because I understand it is impossible to disprove god. But the so called God of Christianity is so full of hate and contempt that he can not be the creator of this world. Christianity is too contradictory and oxy-moronic. And if you look at the history of Christianity through the middle ages do you really think that man had not tainted the "holy book" at some point. Personally I think we as Humans would be better off if we just forgot about silly ancient beliefs and used common sense to evaluate the facts before our eyes. After all what has religion done for us? Some of the worst atrocities in history have been in the name of 'god' (the Crusades, The holocaust, The Thirty Years War, The Salem Witch hunts, I could go on for hours)

I am not saying anything bad about him or anything? If you read my comment correctly I was stating my personal opinion and I don't live in fear of being around people who do and ministering I have friends that are drug users, dealers and alcoholics and I minister to them by not treating them any different but not encouraging them to continue to do what they do. And as far as logistical fallacy you're pretty quick to respond to my comment as if I was saying what he is preaching is evil or isn't in the bible it's my personal opinion. I personally don't agree with it, but I'm not going to go around and try and start arguments and saying that someone is making, "such a logical fallacy." If anything that's the one thing why people look down on Christianity because we (notice I said WE which in includes myself and not a particular persons) take offense and believe we understand the bible more than the person next to us, and feel like we have a right to tear the person down. My comment was not intended for an argument it was a different view, I am not fearful of those environments it's a different perspective I did not say that he is preaching false gospel or call blasphemy it's the way the bible is interpreted to him, and if that's what he wants to stand by then by all means I will not shoot a person down on what they believe or perceive to be right because that is not my place, God will give us the answers in the very end. I don't see any purpose in fighting on youtube with another believer, I just don't agree with that period. But he is still a brother in Christ and I'm praying for him not because I believe he is preaching a false gospel because he is a pastor and will be judged with more responsibility than others. I pray God uses him to expand His kingdom and gives him wisdom and leadership.

    • @lightisgreaterthandarkness
      @lightisgreaterthandarkness Před 5 lety +1

@@josephatnip2398 That is only partially true... Jesus did NOT simply make "wine tainted water" to make it "aseptic". Good aged high potency wine was common during wedding festivals as it was seen as a blessing to the hearts of the guests. Remember the master of the feast's speech?
Other men would set out the "good wine" FIRST and after, when men are well drunk, THEN the "inferior"! But during THAT feast the BEST WINE(most perfectly aged and well fermented) was kept til the last moment.
Look at the language structure and the uses in context of the word "wine"_"oinos"(G3631) and the word "drunk"_"methyo`". Look at their Greek definitions, uses in scripture as well as the context in which they are used.
First. let's look at the passage "John 2:10", the wedding miracle at Cana...
Let's state the context for the partial scripture of John 2:10 before taking a look at this study. Jesus had just commanded His disciples to fill the water pots with water and draw out the water, which Jesus turned to wine, and bring it to the master of the feast...
"And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good *WINE* ; and when men have *WELL DRUNK* , then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good *WINE* until now."
      John 2:10
Let's focus first on the word "wine" which comes from the Greek word "oinos"(G3631).
Oinos[G3631]-- primary word (wine) , from Hebrew origin "yayin" H3196-- to effervesce by quality of fermentation. Alcohol, wine, winebibber.
To further understand this word, let us look at the uses of this word in scripture. We will look at three passages.
"And be not drunk with *WINE* , wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit..."
      Ephesians 5:18
Same word, oinos(G3631) used in a command by Paul to NOT be intoxicated with wine.
"And no man putteth new *WINE* into old bottles: else the new *WINE* doth burst the bottles, and the *WINE* is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new *WINE* must be put into new bottles."
      Mark 2:22
Same word "oinos" used in a parable about the new covenant using the symbology of wine's fermenting qualities. This is illustrated by the fact that "the bottles BURST" from the alcoholic fermentation qualities...
"For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither *WINE* nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb."
      Luke 1:15
Same word "oinos" used here as a command for John the baptist's lifestyle of abstaining from intoxicating beverages as a prophet to prepare the Messiah's path before Him...
Next, we will look at the word "drunk" in John 2:10.
Drunk G3184: methyo: to drink to intoxication, get drunk. To make or be made drunken.
      see 1 Corinthians 5:11(methysos)
" But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a *DRUNKARD* , or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat."
      1 Corinthians 5:11
      Drunkard "Methysos" G3183(from root word methyo "G3184") : Tipsy, a sot. Drunkard/alcoholic.(see John 2:10)

Understanding Jesus is so simple. Doing it is boring, and maybe even feel like a dork. The fruits are awesome though. Look at it like this. Being bad or mean leads to a verbal altercation. A verbal altercation leads to a scuffle. A scuffle leads to manslaugter. Manslaughter is allmost or the same as murder. You either go to jail or have to explain people it was an accident, and they would have to believe you, maybe doubt you. Plus that you could have lost the fight. That could all have been prevented by being nice and understanding, even if you didn't understand, you did'nt escalate. Usually, better meak for a week, than dead or in jail for life. Letting someone keep their natural teeth makes you the best dentist in the world. So that is a great gift. Very great gift. Makes you a great guy.

I would just like to point out for any non intellectuals who might not have realised/are not well learned. But this is a pastor, he represents Pastafarianism which is a mock/satirical religion created by Reddit! Seriously go look it up, this isn't MEANT to be serious, this is satire as is Pastafarianism and the PASTA who is representing it in this video. If you would like to learn more kind sirs and m'lady's please check out fellow like minded Redditors over and reddit.com /r/atheism. A sanctuary for the intelectuals and power thinkers/think tanks of our modern age *tip of the hat fine sirs*

Shimmy. If you listen to what his messages regularly, you will see that you are quite incorrect. From this tiny clip, all he said is that the Bible doesn't tell you not to every drink alcohol and that weed isn't always bad. He doesn't believe in recreational drug use and you can't even get that from the clip - he said that he won't make a blanket statement about it but he has stated, many times, from the stage, that smoking weed isn't that wise, but it has it's place. That's called logic, not Pastafarianism. He is not light hearted about the Bible, Jesus, Christianity - he is VERY passionate about it. This clip is from a message on how Christian beat each other up with legalism and that's wrong, too.

You got it wrong pastor, you leave alot for interpretation and risk that someone may fall in the hole you're creating. When you truly follow and love God Jesus Christ, your life is not boring. He gives you the Holy spirit and you find joy in other ways.... I invite you to follow HIM, you are still leaving in tbe flesh and you shouldn't be a pastor!!!

Sad that the wrong teachings on alcohol has led to the church messing up the holy communion. Wine which represents the blood of Jesus has been replaced by juice. In the result the thing we call holy communion is no longer holy communion and doesn't serve its purpose at all. How can it be holy communion when the blood of Jesus is not there.
    Thanks a lot pastor.

Why do so many people turn to some pastor or other person for the truth? If you desire truth then you MUST read Gods Word for yourself and then decide what you believe. Dont just blindly listen to any man. Read your KJV Bible and research the scriptures for truth.

    • @CandyLovettSweet
      @CandyLovettSweet Před 10 lety

And why does it have to be the KJV? Is that because it is the one that Catholics approved? Why not read The Complete Jewish Bible which has more of the actual words from the actual language of that time? Why have Christians accepted the pagan holidays and Christianize them? Is YHWH honored with the fact that we have taken away the Jewishness of Yeshua and made him into a blue eyed, blonde haired white guy? Why do Christians insist on obeying the 9 commandments, and yet keeping the Sabbath day as a day of rest is under the law. And yes, I am a believer who refuses to call themselves a christian and I read the word for myself and have deprogrammed myself from the organized religion in general. I am a believer and follower of Yeshua, not in man or man's dogma

That's not true at all. There are many areas of agreement between atheists and Christianity, just as there are many areas where the opposite is clearly true. The fact is, in my Bible, in the Book of John, it clearly describes the First Miracle, where Jesus turned water into wine for wedding guests who were ALREADY DRUNK. Now does that mean it's okay to get drunk? No, but I think it means it's not a mortal sin. I think this stunning miracle was mentioned first just to show how absurd and legalistic anyone is who says NO NEVER can a Christian drink.

Why everyone got to keep demonizing the word religion. Without religion there would be no Christians. Religion is merely a path one walks. Case and point the path the deciples walked with Jesus when He say "follow me"
