    thanks dude., been a dj for 34 years professionally and this is like icing opn the cake. i no longer have decks, or my controller, but with 2 x 1's, a Z1, a microKORG, an numark analog 2 (+1 (line/mic)) channel mixer with analog controlled digital fx (unbelievable including a never ending tape delay and the best filter i have EVER heard. i have experience dj'ing with effects as for years, alongside my 1200's i ALWAYS had a mixer with aux send/ return to use my DigiTECH DSP 128+ rack mount fx unit. i been remixing records live since 1997, so of course i have a newly acquired Malekko Echo ID-300 Bright Analog Delay Pedal, and even though i don't have send/ returns on this numark, i have that 3rd stereo channel with eq and can apply a whole different slew of it's digital fx, including a vocoder (!) and then i have a really shitty gemini ''mixer'' (which i don't even know how it got here, tbh). this allows me to have the effect petal on channnel 1, and the microKORG on channel 2. as well as a second microphone (one mic per mixer (or another line, via the gemini). alternatively, i could use the gutiar pedal in between the KORG and my Numark, instead of on its own channel. then again i could always just use it for vox effects connecting a mic directly into the pedal. the best part is that i now can record externally as you've managed to make sense of the input/ output routing and such. even though i went to school for music uindustry arts back while digital production and dj'ing was still in its infancy, using both analog 2'' tape recording, MIDI, and digital producing/ recording, (Logic/ Protools), and even with all that, it has been a complete nightmare to get my head to properly wrap around all of this. i still have to physically draw out my setups. ADHD + OCD, not irrelevant Hahahaha. until really, siiting down, watching this today, i still hadn't managed to work it all out. way too many contingencies. it can be rather overwhelming. immediately before watching this, i learned to, and mapped, nudge and pitch controls to my x1's. now my life, music-wise, at least, is once again, complete.
    thanks you Ean,
    good sir,
    you are truly a legend. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

    One thing that could impart a *clearer and punchier* signal!...
    With a set-up like this, you should check the impedance of the aux send/returns on the mixer (likely in the manual). Guitar pedals always are designed around high-impedance unbalanced signals (or Hi-Z, i.e. guitar/bass etc.), while analog mixers tend to be designed around low-impedance balanced signals. When guitar pedals are used as outboard gear in the studio a "re-amp" device is used to match the impedances and balance/unbalance the signal. I personally use a pigtronix key master because of its simplicity/flexibility but any re-amp device should work.
    There are a million guitar pedals on the market and there is no reason they can't be used as hi-fi effects units.

      Most pedals are unbalanced and the Fx Send / Return input / output jacks on the DJ desk are balanced so you need a DI Box to make the unbalanced signal turn in a balanced signal.
      it's even mandatory if you are using long low quality jack - jack cables you could get hum, buzz and noises...

    Hi,
    That´s a awesome video! Thank´s so much for that!
    I don´t have much experience in connecting things.
    I would like to connect Traktor with my Signature22 mixer (use instead of a sound card) to the zone 92
    My question: Is it possible to use my soundcraft signature 22 (with audio interface) instead of an external sound card? The mixer only have AUX outputs and don´t have chich (RCA cable) stereo outputs.
    I´ve try it already but I failed. Or maybe I did a mistake in the settings in Traktor...

      the 96 comes with a soundcard and midi options. you need to first set the 96 as the soundcard for Traktor, and have it send midi signal OUT to the tr8s' midi IN. then you can either route the AUDIO OUT of the tr8s into one of the 6 stereo channels.

    Thanks, great tutorial on things I've never really tried with my Xone 92. Seems like you really know this mixer! Don't you find with the 92 the volume rises much too rapidly toward the top of the fader - it doubles in the last 1/4 or 1/5. I was thinking of selling it and getting an S8. Whats the effects routing like for that. I was thinking of buying an analog rytm and maybe A4 to use for live stuff along with remix decks and regular tracks.

    • @cosmintofan
      @cosmintofan Před 8 lety +4

      The Xone:92 has a logarithmic line fader whilst the Xone:62 has a linear line fader.
      In essence this means that the Xone:62 fader has an equal distribution
      of volume along the travel of the fader whilst the Xone:92 fader will
      have more of the volume distributed at the top of the fader's travel.
      In terms of feel, the Xone:92 fader is much lighter to the touch whereas the Xone:62 fader has more resistance.

But the Rekordbox DJ software layout is not logic og fun to Watch and Work in.My question: Is it possible, to use the Pioneer DDJ-RX with Traktor 2 pro software?I read some place at the internet, that the so called TFI FILE donsen't exist to the DDJ-RX controller only for the DDJ-SX.I really hope you can help me out.Sincerely and a true new member fan on the youtube channelKenneth from Denmark(Sorry of the spelling isn't that good)

      i think you can connect your monitors to your interface. try it. but maybe u can get some latency depends on your interface..

    I'm seriously considering getting a Xone 92, even in 2020, always loved the look of it, but torn between getting that and the Xone PX5 being it has the USB connection on the back. Obviously there's the Xone 96 but that's a little out of my price range right now. I have a komplete Audio 6 MK2, i was wondering if i could replicate this setup using it, for 3 decks from Traktor Pro 3, if so what cables would i need? I was just looking at an 8x 6.3mm Jack Mono to 8x RCA Male Multicore Cable, would that work with the Xone 92 and my Audio 6 Mk2?! I'm guessing it wouldn't being it only has 4 out and 6 in. I noticed the the Traktor Audio 10 is now discontinued also.

      The Xone 96 has some refinements and enough of a difference in the sound quality to make it worth it, imo. I had a 92 but was blown away by the 96 when I had it.

    the pioneer in this kind of djing was speedy-j in the year 99 i guess with ,first with two hardware samplers (yamaha su700)& the laptop working as effect processor connected to the aux sends of a xone 464.. and later with traktor & live+machine+xone 92 ..and now with an octatrack.

    Hi Ean,
    I noticed that TR8 is in sync with traktor...How did you do the sync?
    If is the same way you sync traktor with maschine...how can we Do this in the Club while other DJ is finishing his performance...I mean...the audience cannot hear the click meter from traktor...
    Thanks very much for sharing your knowledge :)

      Raphael Piperno you can actually just plug it in via USB and sync the MIDI clock from Traktor's preferences

    So do all analog mixers imperatively need an external soundcard in order to function? Also when you say "this is why this mixer is so good" you're essentially refering to the extended routing possibilities, correct? Thank you for the great video!

    • @bhaktabilly4669

      The Xone Px5 has an internal sound card in addition to its analog circuitry.
      It also has Hi-Z FX sends just like Ean’s Xone:96

    wait a second, this is a great mixer no doubt but vestax was implementing exactly the same kind of FX possibilities years before, on their PCV-275 for instance, it's not such a "unique" feature for the xone to be able and do so (thanks for the tuto tho I'm currently mixing on this vestax and was wondering if I could find a similar FX section on the xone, now I know it has it!)

    Thanks for the video, this is a really interesting experiment and visually exciting but what are the audible benefits over using traktors reverb and delay?

    • @randyrankin682
      @randyrankin682 Před 2 lety

      There are a couple. First, you have the option of a full-analog signal chain, which many techno DJs are very fond of. Second, you can use ANY EFFECT YOU LIKE. Traktor's reverbs and delays have a specific sound. Other reverbs and delays will have a different sound. Third, on the Xone 92 you have two return channels which allow you mix in the effects as if they were channels, something Traktor does not perform in the software.

  • @Ninja_Gaijin
    @Ninja_Gaijin Před 8 lety +6

    I would like to add one more thing - you need to work on gain structure a little, you should have the channel faders at that 0 DB mark (it's next to the 0DB light, there is a scale on the other side of the slider) and try to keep EVERY channel at 0DB or under, or at most, a tiny flash to 3DB (that's for running 2 channels also, if you are doing 3 or more each time you need to pull down all the other channels to keep the master near 0db..). I know you touch on it a little about how in a digital mixer it would be distorting, still, even with the 'nice' saturation of master out of Xone 92 running at 3-6DB output light, it is not as 'clean' as running master at 0db (or 3DB max). When you were doing the effect, as you had gain trim at midday and level faders at 9 out of 10 sort of level (with three channels, music on channel 3 as well as dry on channel 4 and wet on return channel. So you can see at points you are redlining with effects. Important if DJs could learn about gain structure (ties into how you should be converting your signal from output of mixer before guitar pedal and then on way back again, which another commentator as well as myself touched on) - clean signal sounds a lot better than distorted/saturated/clipping for 90% of DJ stuff. Different story for production/recording/noise music and other things, but that's not what we're talking about (unless you DJ some of that stuff, even then I think you should apply proper gain structure to YOUR mixer output.. pull down those clipping tracks). One last thing though, don't take me as a complainer, I am very grateful for this helpful tutorial. It would have been very useful for me if I saw it some years ago before going on my quest to combine my guitar pedal board with my DJ rig :)

      I commented on a A&H post about this recently and they responded saying the same was Xone has plenty of headroom and it's not a problem. So are the channel VU's just for show? Do they accept that so many DJ's redline they have made them 'vanity' VU meters?

    • @Ninja_Gaijin
      @Ninja_Gaijin Před rokem +1

      @@THE_Container due to being analog mixer with headroom it won't clip in a nasty way, but it will saturate from the summing of higher levels in the channels. So the metering has a point and will measure if you are coming in at 0dB or not, its just that with an analog mixer like this, it isn't AS important as if you are using digital where digital clipping sounds so bad. And some people might like the 'harshness' of analog harmonic distortion and saturation -czcams.com/video/DZ4IGAR7iio/video.html is a good video
