  • Jose Parica faces Larry Nevel in the finals of the 2003 Derby City Classic V at the Executive West Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky.
Parica comes into this match still having an option to buy back in, while Nevel has already used his buyback.
This is another example of a top 9-ball player facing a veteran One Pocket player.
Larry Nevel had already finished third in the Bank Pool event and knew that a win in this event would make him a big favorite for the all around crown.
Parica, a former player of the year, had won this event in 2001, and was the Master of the Table in 2002.
Bill Incardona and Danny Diliberto were on the mic.

That win would've been massive for Larry. Parica's like, "I win so much it's like nothing to me."

I couldn't believe it when I learned that. He looked so healthy.
Did he have covid ..? Or was it the _mostly safe and effective_ jab..?

@@trumanhw I recall being told by a friend the Dr. gave Larry 6 months. He was suppose to write an article to bring attention to the situation and hopefully raise some money so Larry could do a thing or two before he passed. All I know is that article never got wrote, not by my friend anyway. Hope he passed peacefully.

@@ogezpb3927 money was raised by his friends to pay for necessary medical equipment not provided by the American health care business. More was certainly needed.

So the first game ended by a miscount of balls. I had to restart and watch all o er again to be sure.
After Larry scratched the score was 6 to 5. Not 6-6. Parica didn't hesitate to grab a ball off the table after making only seven, assuming he won. He didn't, and it was an automatic loss of game.
Why wasnt the ref collecting the balls made?
It ruined the entire mood of the game for me. Disgusting.

It’s pretty bad that in a major tournament final such as this that they can mess up the score. Thats like the refs and scorekeeper forgetting an extra point in a Super Bowl. And we wonder why pool doesn’t have more viewers. Ugh

Danny DiLiberto's biography is a great book. It's called "Road Player, the Danny DiLiberto Story". Besides being the world's best straight pool player for around ten years he was a pro boxer, a pro bowler, and a pro baseball player. Oddly he made more money on the road with a proposition bet on how far he could throw a golf ball than he made playing pool even though he was the best player in the world.
