Honestly I’m not quite sure what advice to give - what I will say is that the Rochester and finger lakes regions are diverse and welcome people with open arms. Come with an open mind - obviously there will be a “culture shock” as there would be moving anywhere, but do your best to engage and chat with locals and work to establish community as best as possible!
