In this lesson I discuss a couple of ideas/riffs that help you capture a bit of that Sonny Boy feel. Here is the longer 4 chord lick that I broke down:
4d, 4b, 3d, 3b, 3d, 4b, 4d, 4b, 3d4d together with a pinch of 3 bend (1/2step) - Hudba
7:21 I meant to say 3 and 4 draw not 3 and 2 draw.
Cant understand why anyonw would down thumb this. You play with passion and heart, love it.
Ronnie,
That was an incredible jam man!! You have quite an arsenal at your disposal, i don't think i heard the same trick played more than once, and you played for what seemed like 4 or 5 minutes srtaight! I also heard some slick ass licks that i've never even heard Sonny boy play. And i KNOW Sonny Boy, he inspired me to pick up the harp, i've learned 95% of what i know from listening to his cd's over and over again. Outstanding bro! You've re-inspired me with just the kind of blues i love!
thanks!
Taught myself to play 50 years ago. I can't tell you the whys and hows of an overblow or any other named technique, but I can usually copy anything I hear from someone else's harp.
Your embouchure is really great, I can hear it in your tone, and you’re in the pocket. I thank you for your relaxed and straight up style of teaching. Learning from someone who plays with great technique is a gift.
:)
I've probably watched this 600 times, thanks for all your lessons 🇮🇪
and thank YOU for tuning in
The man was born to play the harmonica
Playing harmonica since years and watching your videos but your awesome full tone just give me goosebumps all the time , great stuff , greets from Germany and stay save
Bro when you started playing my jaw hit the ground what a fantastic sound & style you have. Love this post. Much love from UK 👊👍✌
I've now watched many different people trying to teach me (and hopefully other people aswell) how to play the harmonica. Your and "dbigwalker" videos is by far the best, thanks alot for uploading these tutorials. I've learnt alot and i especially appreciate the sonny boy williamsson-technique revealings.
Thank you! From Sweden
Thank you I've been watching you over and over and I have a hohner hotmetal harmonica from a tuck stop lol its all I could get at the time but now its been 6 months and I can play very well blues, bends and over blows thanks to you and still watching old or new thank you dee
Still great stuff 11years later! Thanks Ronnie! Digging Sonny Boy.
I return to this video occasionally, it is always great!
Best cover of this old classic I've heard yet. Dude, you've got some serious chops! I've been at it for much longer than you've been alive, and I wish I could play as well. Keep it up, you're REALLY GOOD!
thanks

Mate your lessons are class I've been watching loads of your tutorials along with mr wilde you're both great instructors keep it up man
You are fantastic! It is so interesting to listen to the different sound qualities that are produced by your right hand.

Thank you Ronnie. You are always a great help for my inspiration. Nice playing again.
Awesome dude! :) I saw Sonny Boy back in the day & his Spirit lives on in your playing. Truly.
Of the you tubers you get my vote tried the usual tutor books but failed until i found a 1965 copy of harmonica blues by tony little sun glover that just said go for it learn what your doing later Your style suits my learning best and has helped me sound like me. Early days but never too old to blow and too young to die. Cheers man
Bookmarked! So crisp, clean and yet dirty and soulful.
Loved your Sonny 2 demo/lesson, Ronnie. Respect, Greg
Hey Ronnie, very coooooool, finally my favorite Player teaches me the Blues licks i love best !!!

I love to here you playing without this nervous note hopping, just by drawing and
bending and slapping. Your marineband is well customized.
I want to learn how to customize my harbs too!!
Thanks for your advice!!
Incredible!!! Love your lesson videos.
You sent chills all over my body
Chanelling Sonny Boy.
You really capture the essence.

the part you did at 6:24... -3,4,-4,-3,-2 and repeating.. THAT was awesome!!
So cool .loving it .
I see so much passion and character while harp playing. I pray, that i someday can even come a bit near to this performance. Got myself a Hohner 1896 C Harp and just mastered the blues scale on a metronom xD

very smooth and nice melodic flow. CZcams is so full of people with fancy little licks that are blown completely out of context. you are a master. this is coming from a frustrated amateur trying to find decent harmonica players to learn from.
much appreciated!
I like it so much you play... terima kasih banyak Ronnie Sheillist banyak masukan of harmonika...
Great sound and very Sonny Boy. Really enjoyed your playing. Thanks.
Ok, this is so awesome. I just bought a harmonica due to your videos ;). I had some as a kid, mainly as a toy. Had no idea you could make all these sounds with it. If I keep practicing I'll defiinately buy your lessons :).

This is absolutely brilliant!!!!
You kick ass Ronnie. Progression... Lmao. I miss playing at bluegrass yard parties with the fam and beach party acoustic blues w friends; I never get to use my hands for valving or tone anymore. I will try to get recorded to go on here some time though I am singing now; at long last. 33 - 33.5 yrs harp but I only began singing 3 yrs ago. Always had to play harp for others... Made a point to never be recorded. Until I was ready...
awesome bro....you are an inspiration.

Sonny Boy Williamson is proud of you, pal! ;)
thank you
Thank you Ronnie for that inspiring vid
About that famous Sonny Boy 'Help Me' lick-
First, from listening to the original rec i get the impression it is a longer, repetaitve one. every triplet-eights are played
socond, i believe it is based on a draw-blow sequence, when he is repeating it, switching from playing the G note one time 3 blow , then the next time on the 2 draw, and so on, adding "ringing" effect pulling his tongue
Thank you Ron.
hi!! excelent video, tanks very much!
one question, can you tellme what is the tab for the stair in the minute of 0:52 to 0:54 ??
tanks!

question: In 'Help Me' sony boy uses the "chugging" to emphasize the beat. I don't that sound, do you know any tips? thanks anyway for this video.
Amazing harp playing! Great tone and phrasing hha.
Great Great sound Ronnie!
You rock bro...if you're ever in Monmouth Co. NJ You can play with my band anytime!
very nice ideas
i love it!
My favourite
And one player that drew me to the Harmonica
As bad as I am
Great lesson Ronnie
Thanks
thank you
I call it a tongue warble...try gong for an octave on 2/5 draw then move your tongue side to side and the notes I actually alternate are 3 draw and 5 draw. So, you only need to move the tongue a bit to produce that sound.
the best!! lo mejor q he visto en harp.
this vid helps out a lot thank you Mr. Shellist and amazing harp blowin as well!!!!
thanks
It's Amazing! I'm going to learn harmonica!
yeahhhh. Sonny boy is probably my favorite harp players (and one of the only ones i know)
