Bro you are a freaking driver man! One handed driving and being able to back of out those flips like that also while holding the camera, there isn't a better RC crawler CZcamsr imo.
Got my new Redcat today. First I widen +10mm both sides and change tires with 2stage foams and swampers soft as a bunny. Thanks for the great videos as always.
I’m not a huge redcat fan but I can spot value when I see it. Nothing wrong with redcat but I just never got into that brand.
They’ve really stepped it up with the best bang for the buck…
I’d imagine you have double the money or more into the stance vs into the RC fusion.
It would be super interesting to run these RTR crawlers box stock against each other.
I have the vrd stance but I have to say the redcat is impressive maybe with a shock mod on the front and a little more brass it would be awesome
Just an fyi- the ascent is 12.3 WB and the stance is a 12.67 WB
You can see they are very different in wheel base lengths.

VRD looks longer and even seems to have taller or longer shocks. Plus it's wider.

Yup. I think the wheelbase had more to do with the crawling difference than the overdrive.

I'm still keeping my TRX-4 Defender(modified to a Jeep Rubicon) but I'll upgrade it with Fusion SE and some brass stuff at the front.
I great Trail crawler for me with the Gen 8 Axe...I will get the Ascent as well because I sold my TRX-4 Sport with TRAXX - I don't recommend Traxx waste of money it just looks cool.
I want either one of these rigs, but I'm not ditching my TRX4. Too much sentimental value.

I looked to me like the Redcat could use a little more weight on the front to get it to 'settle' and maybe the old 'hairbands on the shocks' to get the front tires to grab. Don't know but that's what I'll try with mine in a couple days.
ive been enjoying thses comparisons. im reading the comments and some people clearly have nothing better to do than to be negative . the redcat it an amazing deal all around. obviously i dont expect it to beat an upgraded ,servo on axle , 30+% over drive , wider srance, longer wheelbase car. but it did quite well for what it is .
Does seem interesting that the comparisons are against fully molded competitors. Add a better servo,extend the wheel base, tune the shocks,hairbands, some weight, I think things would be very different 😉

I’m new to crawlers , heard great things about Vanquish , but the redcat is really impressive
They're all good these days super durable and reliable. Wouldn't recommend FMS but axial,redcat,vanquish, and element are all good. Traxxas is lame and I wouldn't recommend supporting them. Scx10 pro, vanquish vrd carbon, or the redcat acent fusion and are what you should pick from if you want to kill lines.
Exactly you’re doing a injustice to the hobby if you buy traxxas , they worked hard to stop the competition and value we have today
I know those brands are the best crawlers these days, but I’m not much of a crawler and I want the cross EMO tow truck 🛻. I think they are same as FMS . The FMS mini are great can’t knock them , 2 spd and the monster trucks were on point

The VRD Carbon is a fabulous setup.
I noticed in our testing the Ascent, that rear tire lineup is critical. Ascent's geometry is little "different", but if you pay close attention to the Front & Rear lines and obstacle entry angles, the Ascent can pull off some impressive lines. Sometimes, it helps to line the rear slightly angled. For example, ensure the LR tire rolls up on the obstacle just prior to the RR. Helps especially if the Redcat's front shock are stock setup.

I think the internal shock springs on the front of the Ascent are holding it back.
That said, it did pretty good against a truck that cost twice as much.

Put the heavier brass from the blue Ascent on the Fusion and try the test again

Hi Joe, do us a favor and give us a chart showing weight, ballance percentages, wheel base, width, type of inserts and any non visible differences on the fusion, Vrd and the stance.
I did all that with the 18 crawler showdown, but I haven't weighed in the Fusion
@ExocagedRC Yep, watched those. Just wondering what the weight and weight bias was on the Fusion campared to it's competition.
@mikerainey3847 think it was on west desert wheelers vid(could be wrong) that showed the weight front to rear was 56/44 give or take a percentage if I member correctly for the fusion

Build a custom rig & get your wish, it is that simple.
A good setup ecto will do that, mine eats my vrd for lunch
you're talking then a fabricated rig using things like titanium. there are people who do this for a living and are the ones who win comps; it comes down to amazing geometry that can distribute weight properly inside the lines of the rig.

We just built a custom UGRC, front bias, built to suit, 12° skid. 1800kv outrunner, castle micro v2, HH direct power servo, 80mm well tuned F&R shocks, custom driveshafts, steel and titanium HC links, 25% Front OD, nestled in built, low clearance diff, axle housings on 850mah 3s. In our PoC testing, it's much more than most built RTRs can even dream to handle, the break over is insane..but it won't trail long..LOL

The fcx10 and the redcat are priced the same. I can't decide which is a better bang for the buck. I don't know which one to buy.

I think what is hurting the fusion a little it is a little taller than the stance plus the stance has 40% over drive and it is wider ???
Its the axles.
Fusion does look taller but its also CMS as where the Carbon is SOA, big difference there in COG and all.

Weight, wheelbase, overdrive all made a difference. Do a little work to the Redcat and it should be right on par with the carbo.
Too bad there is no way possible to fix the improperly designed panhard bar design that causes bump steer on the Ascent 10 without Redcat revising the parts.
The axles are wonky as hell too.@@DTW-bx2vy
did you notice that in many instances, when the wheels turn on the redcat, the balance throws the weight distribution off and down it goes while both vrds he had that didn't happen. Watch closely. Furthermore, watch the lines that were needed to make the fusion vs the vrds as they are different. Without forcing you to take a specific line like with gates, of course you can make it.
Ascent is not a rig that was build with geometry and physics first, otherwise there wouldn't be bump steer and poor weight shift. watch how the weight moves on the rear tire and if it is pushing weight diagonally as well instead of just off the rails sort to speak.
Keep in mind the Carbon is SOA as where the Fusion is in the chassis, thats a lot of what you're seeing when the turns are made. I prefer SOA on my trucks. As for suspension geometry, I do feel the Carbon has a much better design there.

Hello Joe, how are you ? I love your videos :) I'm torn between the red cat ascent fusion and the vanquish stance or carbon vrd, money is no object here, I need a good performer :) What is your feeling about this ?
I have an Ascent built to roughly the same specs and a VRD Carbon and they trade wins all day. The VRD feels more planted but the Ascent does better when dragging over obstacles.
P.S., Never build carbon rails indoors even with filters..lol
Wish the redcat came in just one more color option but maybe just me 😊

Im really torn between getting an Ecto or an Ascent Fusion... The issue is I have to import the Redcat to the UK and any spares or parts would also have to be imported but I can get the Ecto off the shelf here. Tough decision!

There will never be a carbon fiber frame for the Ascent 18 due to the way the frame rails are designed because of the frame rails taper in the front & rear. We might see aftermarket alumuinum chassis's but no carbon fiber & that kind of stinks in all honesty.

Crowley became difficult when you were only using 3S on the Carbon instead of the typical 4s
Tire speed doesn't help on crowley, maybe a bounce at the end but most of the time the trucks bounce off when doing that.
So you are saying, you rely on 4S batteries for wheel speed to slow crawl?
That tells me your crawler has an awful settup if you need that much wheel speed just to climb.
Nobody is running 4s in their 1/10 crawlers. Only you are lol.

Everyone has specific comparison stipulations, isn’t it all setup driver and lines at this point. All on the same level to me look the 33% overdrive was the difference
Please post a video on what your kick back is to push this red cat. Explain the front end geometry as well please. Your first video against the VP was on awful VP tires but the red cat was on these tires not what came with the redcat…fishy not stock for stock. The worst tire on the best built crawler will not accelerate period and make the nice crawler look like junck( I have no VP vehicles)
I understand it drives over stuff etc and I have a red cat marksman (shit box) myself but why will none of you explain the bs geometry except Crawler Canyon. This why I can’t imagine buying another red cat. Quit telling us this is a $400 ascent when right out of the gate you have these wheels and tires. If only a person watched your one video I explained earlier then your not leading with truth at all and your a product pusher.

so I'm very negative to redcat because they cloned what people are doing and didn't provide anything new; the fusion is not an entry level rig to most newbies at that price point.
But imagine having gates where you can't shuffle, where you have to take a line without choice.. If all new rtr rigs can kill your lines, then harder lines are needed...
What did they clone, and how many different ways can you build a truck? I believe this is the first comp level brushless RTR we'be ever seen from anyone, thats not copying or cloning anyone.

That's what really needs to happen; get rid of brushed. the fusion motor/esc was a great leap progression in our hobby and if this rig is the catalyst for the rest, i'm all for it. otherwise, they just copied what most ascent og buyers did to their rigs by adding a fusion, but the og ascent you could do soa while on this one you cannot.

@@MrSmith223that's not a bad thing no. but very many ascent owners annoyed (i dont' own one) because they had just done that to theirs. However, if this makes other brands put better electronics in their new rtrs then that's saying something. i.e. fms with their fcx10 adding some additional features that other rtrs didn't come with; will that spur other brands to do the same? this would be progress for our hobby instead of just copying each other with a few little differences but not a true progressing.
i define progression like the hw fusion motor/esc combo for example over other brushless and brushed motors.
