Totally agree! I’m in Arkansas and there are plenty of areas where the Latino community is more anti-black/immigrant than anyone. It’s all to assimilate and many of them, as well as others, have been taught that it means to join in on the same bigoted values that are touted in hateful circles. Even my own close Latina friends see it and know it’s true. It’s a convo we have and it’s helpful to have it.

Thank you for it was a scary time also in the 70s we had to learn Spanish and yet we still can’t speak it right and even when they didn’t take us away we got lost for now we must have paper to say we are native no thank you I will always fear that it can happen to us again and I don’t want to put my children into it but I have 59% of Native American I am the people of this land.

GOD I LOVE THIS MAN and everything he has done and continues to do for Latinx people. Between him and America Ferrera, they will change the name of the game when it comes to Latin people in Hollywood and in politics as they are both heavily involved in political issues and speaking about them. I love that he also spoke on our indigenous and African roots. We need to speak on it more because there are still WAY too many latin folk in this country who cling to dear life for that 5% European/Spanish blood that they have.
I am Native American, and I can't speak my own language. I don't know everything about my culture. Even though I live in the reservation. But for me it is best to believe in God/Him than anything else. It seems like I had a wake-up call as if I have been lost the past 26 years.

My mom is mestiso, and my dad is the European version of mestiso. I have no idea what my native tongue would even be. My family has been mix raced for generations.
If you are the people of this land then you mean the great spirit or the creator not God that was wash into our mind so that we could feel okay that the churches that you would walk into would save you. You need to find your true self remember we the people pick up our head and arms to the creator and thank him the men would smoke the peace pipe so that the prayers that was in his temple would go up to the wind and the wind would carry the prayer to the creator and that is how the men would pray to the creator.

My heart aches for the Native Americans. I first learned of all the atrocities when I was in college. My teacher had a film for us to watch about how the children were taken from their homes, shipped across country, striped of their native tongue, the boys had to cut their hair.....they all had to dress like the "white man"....yet when they turned 18 they were kicked out of school. They went home and couldn't speak the language anymore.....they were lost souls...not wanted in the white man's world because they were still Native American and when they went home they were not recognized as Native American by their own people. I got up out of my chair and went into the hallway and balled my eyes out. Then I researched, and dug up as much information as I could.....I'm white.....and I have NEVER been so disgusted, disappointed, and horrified about the "white man" and my race. I will ALWAYS stand beside the FIRST PEOPLE! And now our country is gearing up again to "get rid of" people of color.....namely the hispanic population. I really believe that we are lost as a society....I don't think that we could ever be redeemed for what we have done to other people of color......
Like slavery, stripped blacks of ne, heritage, murdered kids, women, etc...can't wait to watch this. This lasted 30 years, can you imagine 300+?

Boy no wonder some people don't want us to know all the ugly history of this country but in order to get to the promised land you have to be brave and look ugly square in the eye. not deny it own it so we can learn from it not let history repeat itself. I have always loved John since I met him performing Mambo Mouth back in the day. I was working in book publishing and my friend Linda was editing his book. His energy, timing, humor and intelligence is something I will never forget witnessing in person on stage nor his big hug when he got off stage. He is definitely someone special to watch. ❤️
Please stop lumping all Spanish speakers into one ethnic group and culture. The Puerto Rican culture is totally different from Mexican or Salvadoran culture and vice a versa.

I think it’s rich that other minorities are co-opting the story of us. American Indian Cherokee. Amazing. Everyone always wants to think they’re us. We need to be able to tell our own stories. Not the people who’ve taken our land.
As much as I love the indigenous American Indians, my guess is you must be talking about the European ancestors. You’re not the only indigenous tribe worldwide. John is indigenous, I’m Taino indigenous. Australian indigenous aboriginals, indigenous Mexicans, indigenous Peruvians and so on. There’s 476 million indigenous people worldwide. So don’t get upset with John just because he’s playing the part.

About accepting Blacks as Latinos… that’s not changing, more black folks are talking about it, mainly young people… but it is generational as well. Also, there are still caveats to this acceptance which includes what percentage of this and of that.
Race, even in Latin America and some Caribbean countries remains a social construct. I would love to see a John Leguizamo or other mainstreamed “ Latin” actors portray roles where you can actually see the intersectionality of family relationships etc., then we can have a teachable moment
What he’s talking about is Latino’s accepting that most of them have African and Indigenous DNA, instead of pretending they’re a 100% European. The percentages may differ, but most Latinos are a mixture of European, African and Indigenous DNA.
