Thing Is we all thought Ponga was done and his career would continue to go down hill but he proved everyone wrong when no one believed in him there for I reckon he deserved it. That's my opinion anyway and with all those concussions holding him back he still clutched hard in the end when his team needed him and he brang his team from just about dead last to 5th
The first thing he should’ve done is handed the award to Shaun Johnson. Ponga is a great player, but he’s missed half the season through injury. Shaun Johnson was robbed.

All you people saying “ Johnson was robbed” obviously have no clue how the Dally M award goes to the player who has the most points.NOT the most consistent throughout the whole season and NOT the fan favourite.Even though Johnston had a better season Ponga had a brilliant last 10 games of the season which JUST gave him more points.
Only because VLANDYS changed the voting system so it could be rigged, just like his 6 again rule!
I watched all their games when they started their winning streak and at that time Ponga wasn’t even in the top ten and although Ponga was good during their surge of wins there were games when his teammates were standouts ie Bradman Best,Frisell,Gagai,Young etc so there’s absolutely no way he would’ve or should’ve received top points in every one of those games because his teammates were also having great seasons but the NRL purposely put him on top.There was one round where Johnson scored no points against Manly and yet his stats were far better than anyone in that whole game but that’s the problem with going behind closed doors to do the last counts because it removes the transparency and allows the NRL to tamper with the points however they wish and everybody is none the wiser
