Easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials do it yourself (DIY) to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.

The best step by step videos on the net. Well lit, in focus, close enough to see all the details. Every step explained and tips to make things go faster and smoother. Especially good for beginners, but even a 20 year saw mechanic can pick up a thing or two. Great job Donnie!
Those clips really like flying across the shop. As a practice, anytime I'm taking one off or putting one on, I keep a shop rag over it. That way WHEN it flies off the rag traps it, and I don't waste five minutes crawling on my shop floor.
Your video helped me replace the chain sprocket, bar and chain on my 028 Woodboss. Excellent instructions and video. Thanks.
Just what I need to see before replacing my neighbor's sprocket. Have enjoyed your previous videos, also
@Damari Hendrix Nice to learn it worked out well for you! Now I need to get my act together at my bench and face changing the one on my neighbor's saw. Certainly was satisfying to find an excellent demonstration such as was done on this video. Anymore, if I need to learn 'How To', CZcams seems to be the place to head. A great day to you! -Ed-
always to the point. easy to follow.consistant as always.thanks very much
I must say that on my Dolmar 420C this procedure is much simplier.
Thanks for the video Dony.
I recently got an 028 and it needed carb work. I still would like to fine tune it but idk how. I did the basic setting and runs great. It just releases alot of oil when running
you make it look so easy. i have an old 028wb. my fathers . / " still ". cant get it running right. . its realy frustrating . but thats how i found your channel . . thanks . dony.
Excellent as usual. Concise info and perfect photography.
My chain on my 028 AV Super will run while idling, sometimes it is constant. Other times it jumps. Amy wisdom? Great 028 clutch video!
Mine did the same thing. I replaced the whole clutch but you could just replace the clutch springs if you want. Fixed it right up.
Smashing job :-))
The noise i dont like is the Ping of the cerclip as it vanishes off into the twilight zone, never to be seen again lol :-)
lol
See how Donnie kept his thumb over the clip to prevent that.
Sure nice when you know what you're doing. Thanks for the video Dony!
hello Dony, just have a question i have a 192 sthil chainsaw it works very good except for one thing .the chain keeps spinning ,machine idles perfect .
Great Video ( Again!) from Canada's #1 Mechanic!,.........DB73!👀😎👍🍻 Thanks.......

Hi Don a great video as usual. I have one question. With that wear on the sprocket what were the symptoms with the chainsaw? Maybe I missed something.
I never tire of watching your videos your a great teacher, I tip my hat. :)

Thanks great video- very helpful and informative.
Whats is the best bar and chain fir this saw? And is there a duel port muffler i can mount on it or should i just port the and drill out the baffles with the one thats originally on it. My last quistion is what do think about advancing the timing on this saw slightly?
Well presented repair. Enjoyed it.
To remove the clutch do you just pull it off once you get to the point you got in this video?
The 028 was a popular saw , but a little different . Do not see to many of them around here now.
My Stihl 028 AV is from the late 1970's. Where can I find a new sprocket drum, e clip, washer and ring?
+Victor V go to your local Stihl dealer
thanks for posting. excellent info there donyboy as always.
How do you get the chain brake handle spring back on the handle? I have tried everything I can think of.
thanks
hey thanks your video helped a lot
+Kevin kenning you're welcome, make sure you are subscribed
Don, do you know how to take off the oil pump on the 028 WB?
Hey Guys having trouble setting the high idle on a Stihl 028 super wood boss, I rebuilt the carb, replaced the impulse tube and inspected the intake. The saw dies down under load, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks T.Pope
Another great video Don! Thanks!
thanks for watching
Thanks!
Hey donyboy, question for you. I have a really old stihl 028 av super that I got from my dad. I know its one of the originals. It doesn't have a the metal bar plate and there is not a screw hole between the bar bolts for a screw. Did some of these not come with this? I know everything is completely original on the saw. Thanks for your videos, they are awesome
a lot of the old saws have the adjusting screw between the bar and the body of saw, awkward at times
I'm curious how the bar oiling system works. whats it look like on the inside? Do those plastic gears wear out often?
The plastic gear you see is called a worm gear and it will wear out over time. The worm gear sits over the crank and fits against the oil pump. As your chain is turning it turns the worm gear which turns the oil pump which pumps the oil to your bar and chain
Can the chainsaw still runs, if the clutch is not working properly?
Great info as always!!
Dony do you deal with a wholesaler for parts? I'm an aspiring small engine mechanic and I'm just wondering the best place to get parts.
Ive not seen one like that , I thought all the drums with thought groves txns
Hey Dony, really great videos you make !.
Is there a easy way to check if the bearings on the pistion rod is worn ?
+König MOVE THE PISTON UP AND down, if there is play then it needs to be removed
Ok, Thanks for the advice.
It´s on a FS450, I can feel a bit of slip when I do that, like 1/6 of the thickness of a sheet of paper..
why will my oil pump gear not lift out? it lifts up about 1/4 inch then stops
HI should U put grease on bearing before install of seal and how much . TKS.
yes just a small amount
How do I take off the clutch thanks
nice
Hello, I'm wanting to grease my sprocket bearing on my 362 sthil. But in this video you said not to put to much grease on it because you dont want to get it on your clutch plate. Might I ask you why it would matter if you got grease on you clutch plate?
Ps. I am no mechanic, just a guy who is trying to learn stuff....
The clutch could slip if grease get into it
@@donyboy73 thank you very much....👍
@@donyboy73 also I'm trying to buy a piston stop tool you have, I have the part number but I dont know where to find it. It's not on the stihl website. Thank you
@@brotherjohn1441 go to stihl dealer to buy tools

donyboy-It appears in your video you start with a 3/8" 7pt sprocket 28 seconds in then it pictures a .325 drum-am I missing something?
A 7 point sprocket is .325 which is what he took off and put on. A 3/8" is an 8 point.
Shouldn't you put on a new chain with a new sprocket? It's what I always do anyway. Just curious.
Love your videos, but one thing that drives me crazy, (because of my OCD, lol), is that you never seem to clean any of the parts after dis-assembly, and then put it all back together dirty and grimy. lol.
Its a chainsaw..they're oily messes even when you clean them, Believe it or not, that WAS reassembled clean.
Stihel 024 Airflter
Donnyboy you name a place get chainsaw part
can we get that in a pin drive
I have a stihl 15inch chainsaw w points and condenser, which i know nothing about, has anyone ever converted over to electronic ignition, if so how much and how hard, any help would be greatly appreciated..thanks
I imagine it would be easy like an older briggs and stratton. Just cut the old wires to the points and seal up where they enter the cover with silicon caulk. or remove the points and the cover (although it may affect how the crankshaft seals. Find an electronic ignition that fits the mounts and length of spark plug wire, then just bolt on and hook up your kill switch.
gokartbuyer thanks for the info..I will give it a shot and see what happens
BUDDY TAYLOR Good luck! I look forward to hearing how it goes.
I changed mine to the rim type, far easier.
How do I take off the clutch thanks
Gordon you should not have to take off the clutch unless you're replacing the worm gear or the oil punch. If you are referring to the sprocket, when it starts to wear deep grooves in the sprocket it's time to change it. Always remember the sprocket and chain and bar always have to match. For example if you have a .325 sprocket make sure your bar and chain is a .325 bar and chain. Hope this helps
