The Maneskin with their victory at the 71st Sanremo festival (the most important event in Italy of the year) made the revolution.
- They won Sanremo despite their twenties, in a country where the "dinosaurs" do not stand aside.
- They won by bringing the rock genre to a country now submerged by the indie, pop, and trap-rap world.
- They question the concept of masculinity in a male chauvinist country.
Vote for the Maneskin, they left without money and in Italy these guys are fighting against a bad mentality.

Italy was my second favorite in 2012,2015,2020 and my winner in 2017, 2018, 2019. For this year they are my winners so far. I can't understand how they doing it every freaking year and in different genres

whatever Italy is selling I'm buying it. They do something completely different each year and they slay every single time. What a time to be alive.
Hope Europe will appreciate this "new" aspect of Italianness... we are not only traditional love/break up/power ballads: there is a lot of movement in the younger scene, a lot of contemporary and modern choices. I feel like Mahmood kinda paved the way and set a crucial precedent to Sanremo, and thanks to him the age of the audience following (and voting) the festival is lowering... hence the different vibes we are getting. Old traditional "sciure" and "sciuri" must get used to glue their wigs if they don't want them to fall.
And the modern genres works so well with the orchestra. I still watch the performances of Rancore and Anastasio from last year.
I also like that older artists are respected while space is given to younger ones. After all, it's supposed to be about talent and artistic expression.
new aspect of italianness??? Italian rock has a long history in Italy since the early 70es! Some of the best european prog rock bands were italians. Groups like Litfiba took italy by A storm on the 80 and 90es and are still legendary. I imagine that you know very lil' about italian music. Italy also had their own Led Zeppelin in the early 70es with the band "Moby"... c'mon...

The people who invented metal are around 70 years old now... You might be surprised who actually voted for this. Boomers and Gen X are much more rock than younger people.

Måneskin began their musical career by performing on the streets of Rome. They came second to XFactor Italy in 2017. They released the album 'il ballo della vita' (The dance of life) in 2018, which won three platinum records.
This song is a hymn of freedom against all the people who want us to remain 'zitti e buoni' (Shut up and be quiet) and against people who don't want us to rebel against injustices.
Italy presents itself at Eurovision with an expression of new and modern music. Will it be the right year?

Im glad someone pointed out how Italy sends songs that have diverse musical genres. That alone proves Italy to be the best country in Eurovision. Sanremo hasnt followed the same formula in choosing winners in the past 10 years and it pays off big time. Theyre the most consistent in delivering quality music. Periodt.

When Emil said "It is so unexpected from Italy to send a rock song" I really felt that too. I'm Italian and trust me, it was all SOOO unexpected for us too. I would have never bet they won Sanremo.

This is the real Italy now... Anger, rock and glam all together. Unexpected probably but is more true that all the rest.
The lyrics talk about rebellion, about the desire to let criticisms and prejudices (which very often limit people's lives) roll off your back. We don't want to submit to the norm, to expectations. We want to be free. We want to be ourselves. The society may think we are "out of our minds", maybe we are, who knows? But it's okay. It's good. We want to be different from them. Furthermore, this song praises diversity: it must be accepted because it's very valuable, able to enrich us. "Zitti e buoni" means "you'd better shut up and behave", but it's an invitation to do exactly the opposite!
Their additional point: they slay the stage (actually their strongest point in my view 😉 )

this and finland are without a doubt my top 2 songs. they both bring something fresh to eurovision and as with finland, people who aren't usually rock fans seem to enjoy this! they're bringing glam rock vibes with a hint of grunge in the song, the styling is just extraordinary, and the singer's voice couldn't fit the song better, amazing choice italy!

I love how surprised you all look. To us is nothing flabbergasting. For the rest of the world italian music is Pavarotti, Ramazzotti & Co., we love them but we moved on, this is italian music today, we already knew.
The artists who sold the most after the festival weren't the winners you saw at the Eurovision. Unfortunately, italian is not a worldwide known language, that's always been our limit and always will be. This year though the smart move has been to create a song with music stronger than the lyrics. Music is a universal language.

As an Italian I actually think that this isn't a winning song for the Eurovision, BUT they were my first choice yesterday: I am excited for this pick because they are gen z, unripe, talented and they write and play their own pieces. Besides this is the sign that something is changing in our conservative Country.

Don't forget that the Italian language has been used as the main language in the operas in Europe since the XVI century.
If Eurovision happened last year with the same global background, Diodato could have won because the song really hits home at that kind of condition. And then with this, well, Italy could become a back to back Eurovision winner. But of course, it's all an if and projection, but Mahmood-Diodato-Maneskin, 3 succesive years of memorable and high quality entry. I love 2018 too really, but that night, Eurovision was enchanted with Netta and Eleni, and there was nothing wrong with them two to be honest.
I don't know if they will win, but they will certainly give a great live performance!

I was dozing through San Remo night 1....two bars in when this came up, I thought Eurovision winner, instantly. In 19, the whole top 5 gave me that immediate feel (strong year) .

Måneskin were born as a Rock band but they're actually a mix of styles of rock, pop and reggae. Basically even If you're not a huge fan of Rock(like me), they'll make you fall in love with their music.
Btw my favourite ones from Måneskin, apart from this, are:

The truth is, we didn't attend Eurovision this year, but a Måneskin concert, and it seems the other bands paid to see them. You have never seen a show like this in ESC...
This is a great song and by far my favorite of the entries so far. The live performance is even better because of the string instruments. It elevates the song from being very good to brilliant. As a dane, this seems like our best shot of some recognition this year. The bass player is half danish, hence the danish name, Måneskin = Moonlight
