    I am about to embark into something similar and your tutorial is mind blowing. Will you be able to answer me if I need some inputs along the way, which I think I will? I am mechanically inclined but not gifted like you are. I've enjoyed every second of your explanation. That video is dummy proof. with much love and appreciation from Haiti 🇭🇹.

    For the lads without manual, the torques for the 6mm bolt is 9 footpounds (21Nm) as the man said, but the 8mm ones are 17 footp (not 13.) (23Nm). thanks for the vid! Cheers

    Have you had any issues with the bike since you rebuilt it? This video was really helpful, but it looks like you used the whole tube of gasket maker. I wouldn't be surprised seeing the oil galleries get blocked up or cam bearing seize from all of it getting pushed in there

    • @desertspeed2934
      @desertspeed2934  Před 6 lety +3

      Nope. Gasket maker is anti spread. Also if you leave it alone and let it dry it won't spread or get in the way.

    Hey friend. Big thanks for the video!
    Any chance you could go over the piston ring configuration again or link the said video ?

    • @desertspeed2934
      @desertspeed2934  Před 4 lety +1

      If exhaust is 0 and intake is 180 degrees, top compression is 180, second compression is 0, both scrapers are 90, and oil spacer is 180.

      Hey friend.
      Got er running and idling fine.
      But getting a lot of smoke coming from the headers, not out the actual exhaust pipe though....
      Could that be break in oil burning off or something else?

    Ok so you set cam in lobes down cam gear markings level with head and correct and chain on,and piston is at top dead centre how do you know its on the compression stroke? or does it not matter? also notice you donot have your cam tensioner in yet will it push timing out when installed and puts pressure on the cam chain? cheers

      im haveing problems with my compression realise i think when i tryed to set the valve the right side seam to be to tite and left side is good when i kick it over by hand there like a clicking sound in the head after it turns the motor over at least 3 times then the right side gets lose is that normal?? or sould i put the head

      i notice on your you dont have those 2 tubes that are next to exshast did you block yours off im new to the xr650r and trying to find out how stuff works and tech stuff to make it better

    • @desertspeed2934
      @desertspeed2934  Před 6 lety +1

      No, I bought a blank head and had it machined and milled out without the smog pump ports by precision concepts.

    • @desertspeed2934
      @desertspeed2934  Před 6 lety

      That sounds like a stretched can chain jumping teeth or a tight compression release cable.

  • @mindyburton7537
    @mindyburton7537 Před 6 lety

    i also notice that you dont have the automatic compresor release on your cam does this make it harder to start as in harder to kick start

  • @richardfld

    how did you time the top sprocket without it on the shaft and tensioned up?

    • @desertspeed2934
      @desertspeed2934  Před 6 lety +1

      Practice. I've acquired the ability to keep tension on the sprocket with just my hand whilst observing the timing marks. I then keep the same tension when bolting on the cam.

    • @richardfld
      @richardfld Před 6 lety +1

      Fair enough :)
      I've always struggled a bit getting the top sprocket/chain timed right with the crank. Just wondering if you had some special method.
      Looking at tearing down my xr this winter so am just prepping myself watching some vids. This video is extremely handy... Thanks for making it!
