    Been really enjoying these videos, it's great how dedicated you are to figuring out the characters and giving them all cool thematic options for their combat style and personalities. I'd love to see Merry and/or Pippin haha, will be interested to see if you come up with different character types for each or just do a Merry/Pippin build as I feel like they are so similar

    I really like the addition of Paladin to be honest. Don't know if you played it, but in Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO), the "Captain" class is partially based on Boromir and that class is all about rallying your fellowship's moral, buffing other members damage, defence etc. Very much a supportive melee class. They can also tank and are the best single target tanks in the game.
    I've been trying to plan out a fighter/paladin build for a while that feels in keeping with the LOTRO captain. The only thing I'll do differently is they're generally greatsword users, so I will build around that, rather than a shield.
    Moreover; oath taking is no rare thing in Gondor. Take Beregond for example, who broke his oath to save Faramir from his father.
    Edit: If you are a LOTRO player or have even an interest in that, build guides based around its classes would be great. I've searched for them, but haven't been able to find them. If not LOTRO, perhaps you have another MMO you'd like to make builds based around?

      @GeekEKittenGaming  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I played LOTRO a looooooooong time ago. It's probably changed a ton since then. I'm not currently playing any MMOs but you bring up a good point - there's a gap in character builds for those types of games as well. Maybe it's time to check out LOTRO again. Thanks for the feedback!

    In my version of Boromir, I'd have gone either Soldier or Noble background (probably Noble) over Dark Urge, but that's really just my opinion. Overall, though, I really like this build.
    Boromir's arc in the LotR films is my favorite for all the main characters. He really is driven by his devotion to Gondor (so Oath of Devotion paladin is really on point here). He starts out being scornful of Aragorn, to seeing him as the greatest hope for the salvation of Gondor (and therefore angry that Aragorn is so wary of embracing Men, especially the Men of Gondor), to acknowledging Aragorn as the rightful king in his final breaths. One has to wonder what would have happened had Boromir survived...

    • @GeekEKittenGaming
      @GeekEKittenGaming  Před 2 měsíci

      Yeah I was going to give him the soldier background, but I feel like Dark Urge is a great representation of the pull of the ring (and had already used it in the Frodo build). Boromir, I feel, is an underrated character, and I think he could have accomplished some pretty great things had he survived. But from a writing perspective I totally understand why he was sacrificed and his heroic ending.

      @@GeekEKittenGaming I'm rather curious to see what your take on a Faramir build would be. He'd definitely get more points in WIS than his unfortunate brother, that's for sure. "I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend." Personally, I'd probably make him DEX-based and give him levels in Ranger (hunter subclass). Unfortunately, point buy doesn't allow him to really have all the stats that would be consistent with his book portrayal, which would require good to amazing stats all around. He was much-loved by his men and could "master both man and beast" (high CHA), was an avid scholar (high INT), notably insightful (high WIS), not to mention an excellent warrior more than capable of holding his own against a host of enemies under dire conditions.
      So:
      Ranger - Hunter
      Favored Enemy: Ranger Knight
      Natural Explorer: Wasteland Wanderer - Poison
      Fighting Style: Archery
      Hunter's Prey: Horde Breaker
      Defensive Tactics: Steel Will
      Abilities: Stealth, Insight, Perception, and either Survival or Animal Handling.
      I'm not sure if I'd multiclass for a Faramir build in BG3; I'd love to throw in a few levels of paladin (OoD), but ranger/paladin just do not synergize well, and the Hunter subclass in particular doesn't like to multiclass. (Perhaps a single level of fighter for the Defense fighting style, but that would make Ranger Knight redundant. Unfortunately, none of the other Favored Enemies fit Faramir very well.) I'd possibly be tempted by the Assassin rogue subclass, given the ambush tactics he and his rangers make use of in Ithilien, but that would mean losing out on Volley and Whirlwind attack at Ranger 11.

    • @GeekEKittenGaming
      @GeekEKittenGaming  Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@evenmoor I would definitely go part ranger with Faramir. My takes on the builds sacrifice some functionality and synchrony in favor of being as true to the character as possible, so i would consider multiclassing him. Multiclassing often gives a way to make a character more unique as well, even if it's only for a few levels to represent something in their personality or history or skills.

    • @evenmoor
      @evenmoor Před 2 měsíci

      @@GeekEKittenGaming Hm. In that case, I'd probably take Hunter 5/Champion 4/Assassin 3. Slightly messy, but it works _reasonably_ well. No paladin, but it's not like paladins have a monopoly on devotion. I'd have thrown some in there if I had the full 20 levels to work with, to be sure. This build mostly focuses on Faramir as a wilderness ambusher; for a (slightly) more optimized build, I'd have used gloomstalker, but hunter simply fits his overall character much better. And, after all, this is an RP build, not a min-max build! For feats, he would probably take Alert and Sharpshooter.

    • @GeekEKittenGaming
      @GeekEKittenGaming  Před 2 měsíci

      @evenmoor exactly! There are so many other youtubers doing min-max builds that it doesn't make sense for me to try and compete lol. But RP builds are few and far between! I think your choices for Faramir make sense. He is less likely to have had to take a specific oath (his father barely acknowledges him anyways) and his fighting style is not as front line/tanky as boromir, so putting in some fighter levels instead of paladin makes sense. Ranger is the most appropriate as that is his role, but rogue also fits due to his fighting style.

    There's a LOTR 5e TTRPG and there is a class based on Boromir that feels more like fighter and Barbarian put together. I'm surprised by Paladin, here, but I think I get it

    • @GeekEKittenGaming
      @GeekEKittenGaming  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Interesting. I don't really see him as a Barbarian...Fighter, absolutely, but not sure where Barbarian comes from (other than some mild "raging" over the ring).

    • @kuno3336
      @kuno3336 Před 2 měsíci

      @@GeekEKittenGaming his resilience is the main thing. Like, we think of raging and just the obvious anger connection, but mechanically Boromir took "a forest of black-feathered arrows" to the chest, and barbarians take half damage to non-magic damage while raging. Add to that a barbarian's d12 in health, because Boromir clearly had a lot of health points, half damage aside. I guess the main thing is that Boromir is strikingly non-magical, where Aragorn is the more magical of the two, and though I'd make him a ranger (cause he's THE Ranger) I'd be more tempted to put Paladin in Aragorn's build than in Boromir's build if that makes sense.
      That said, I've come around more recently to flavoring spells and magical abilities as more mundane things, which is why I'm more recently in a place to understand Paladin levels in a Boromir build

    • @GeekEKittenGaming
      @GeekEKittenGaming  Před 2 měsíci +1

      @kuno3336 those are fair points about resilience and hit points, but there are ways to add to that with classes other than barbarian. Barbarians are known to be brutish and brash, Boromir was charismatic and thoughtful (minus ring temptation lol). My aragorn build was ranger but multiclassed into fighter which I think makes more sense then paladin for him (his fighting style is a mix of ranger/fighter).

    • @kuno3336
      @kuno3336 Před 2 měsíci

      @@GeekEKittenGaming definitely agree with that. I personally wouldn't have actually put Paladin in Aragorn either, I could just see it easier. Fighter multiclass makes the most sense for him, like you said.
      I think I'm used to playing barbarians against type, is the big difference in our take on the class. My primary barbarian is also the back-up skill monkey (skilled feat) for my party, and the back-up party face. He's a jack-of-all-trades with a couple of breathtaking issues. Though I will also say my opinion of Boromir sees him as more brash than you, maybe from watching the movies more times than I've read the books, but also because he was dead set on getting to Gondor in both versions (I'm due for a re-read tbh). Also, and this is a weirder side to it, i watched the animated one a bynch of times as a kid and Boromir was like a straight up viking warrior in that version, and I doubt that hasn't influenced my interpretation. And like, for any wrath aspect to him potentially raging, I really do see that as his love for his people driving him to tremendous physical feats, like a huge adrenaline rush.
      Also, I've loved this conversation, so thank you so much! I so rarely get to interact with content creators

      I get him looking more like Faramir, but Faramir's hair has a lot of red in it, so I don't think adding more red would have solved the issue. I probably should've went harder on the darker brown, since Faramir's hair is lighter than Boromir's.

    I have a question i want to do a build like a great musician and a great melee fighter i try to do a bard fighter with phalar aluve and a shield,would you have sujestion to help me be more effective, like the colege for the bard to help me be more in synergie with battlemaster?

    • @evenmoor
      @evenmoor Před 2 měsíci

      Bards can be remarkably good melee fighters, even without multiclassing. That said, with what you want, I would suggest College of Swords bard 10/fighter 2. I suggest a human or half-elf as a race, since they get shield proficiency for free, allowing you to pick up 6 levels in bard for extra attack before the two levels in fighter. Alternatively, you could pick any race and go College of Valour (which gives you shield proficiency when you select it at level 3), but Valour won't give you very much that you won't get when you pick up fighter levels.
      If you're dead-set on getting the battlemaster subclass for fighter, be aware that the battlemaster maneuvers will compete with the Swords bard flourishes for your action economy each turn. If you decide to get the battlemaster subclass, I suggest you go bard 8/fighter 4.
      Two fantastic alternatives to fighter for a melee bard build would be paladin 2 for amazing smite damage, or warlock (pact of the blade) 3 or 5 to make the most of being a charisma-based melee combatant.
      I hope this helps!

      I agree with the College of Swords choice (and apologize for the delayed replay, I was busy making the Merry and Pippin builds - which ironically use College of Swords lol). And as Evenmoor said, Bards are actually pretty handy melee fighters. Some really great advice here. I think personally I would go with College of Swords Bard and sprinkle in Paladin. But you may want to partially base this choice on your roleplaying as well (unless this is a repeat BG3 run and you're just focused on getting through the fights, like Honor Mode).
