- Welcome to another video! A few weeks ago I took a trip down to New Orleans to ride the world's oldest continuously operating streetcar line. The St. Charles Line has been in operation since 1835 and still uses 1923-1924 Perley A. Thomas Car Company 900 Series Streetcars. I took the 50 minute ride from Downtown New Orleans (Carondelet and Canal) to South Carrollton at Claiborne Avenue which is the western terminus. These vehicles are a national treasure and I'm excited to take you along with me for a ride on one of them. Join me as I take a ride back in time aboard New Orleans's historic St. Charles Streetcar Line!
Enjoy the video!

Love those reversible seats. 1920s technology, still working!
We rode these Perley Thomas streetcars in May 2018 after traveling on the Amtrak "City of New Orleans" from Chicago. I'm building a large scale model of one of them at present. JNS Rugby, England.
Great video.... I will be visiting New Orleans next month, May 2024 and will be staying in St Charles Ave, a couple of blocks from Harmony Circle. Was amazing to find your video going past the area we are staying in.
I certainly will be travelling by the street cars for most of my travels there.
Maintain these at all costs.
they do lol
this city is like home to me. Riding the street car is very therapeutic. Watching this gave me a peace, thank you.
I'm glad you liked it! New Orleans is such a spectacular city!
What an awesome and beautiful video, thank you so much! xo
My family and I rode on the St Charles Street car line last week whilst on holiday in New Orleans from Canal Street as far as Washington Street in the garden District. What struck me was the effort the driver had to put in to pilot one of these old street cars. It was an enjoyable experience as the route allows a great degree of sight seeing. Hope they continue to be preserved for future generations. Great video
I rode these cars back in 2016. We absolutely loved riding them. Cannot wait until we return to New Orleans.
It is great that the RTA is trying to preserve the old street cars. I was lucky enough to ride them when visiting NO a while back - they sure get crowded. Whilst many cities have replaced them with more modern easy access with A/C etc. Some cities also still retain some of the heritage carriages (for example, Milan in Italy & Lisbon in Portugal). NO is a great place to visit - the food, music & places to see & experience. Thank you for sharing.
Excellent video ---thank you. You answered the questions I had about fares and air conditioning along the way.
Had a amazing time on the streetcar the other day. Beautiful trip through the Garden District
Thanks for sharing this lovely video
Great video! Do you know if there are any attractions at the last stop, S. Claiborne Ave. & S. Carrolton Ave?
Im going to New Orleans in June, so I’ll be riding this street car to go to the zoo.
Este tipo de veiculo funciona ai nesta cidade como transporte publico? é muito lindo beijos
❤
So do you just get back on the one going back to where you got on?
Nice job! I always try to ride the St. Charles and River lines when I visit NOLA. Did you happen to take The Crescent to get there?
Thanks! No I didn't take the Cresent this time. I plan to ride it sometime in the future.
I can see this was done June. 1)Would mid July be too hot to visit? What do you think? 2)Also how were the hotels? 3) Lastly, how to buy 3 day pass? Can I buy it on iphone and use Apple pay on the car? Thanks! - new york
