    I came just to see how you did Skiathos as it's my happy place ;) In all my time flying I've only ever come in that way once, every other time has been the more scenic approach passing Skiathos Town. I was actually working a flight there in 2005 when a Swedish MD8X botched the landing, ballooned it but didn't go around and instead landed way too long and nearly went off the end and onto Xanemos Beach. With very heavy braking and a lot of weaving he stopped just short but had to be towed back as they couldn't turn around, we ended up with a good 4 or 5 hour delay on that one (still back then we were on flight pay and not sector pay so it was all good).

    I think your advice to flare late with a headwind and early with a tailwind is correct but for the wrong reason. It's not a case of more or less wind over the wings since that depends only on your indicated airspeed. With a headwind, your ground speed is less and so, for a fixed glide slope angle. your vertical speed is less and that's why you can flare a bit later. You don't have as much rate of descent to get rid of. The opposite is true for a tailwind. Kind of a minor point. Nonetheless, an excellent video, very helpful.

    Since I have switched from Toliss over to the Fenix, my landings have gotten very bad. The amount of stick input that I used for the Toliss is way to little for the Fenix. While I am trying to solve this, I noticed that I don't really have a flaring technique and that's why I luckily found your video - which helps a lot. I am too focused on the vertical speed. Instead I should look out on the runway and get used to the appropriate pitche angle. Time to get behind the computer and fly this wonderful airplane again.

Is that any change of aircraft flight model? before SU11, I could land with Fenix a320 very well, and I know well about the landing technique, So i think it is not the matter of documental knowledge about landing(flare timing, etc..) + Are you still using same setting with your previous video? Hi there,
    In the real aircraft, how would the plane behave before touchdown? Let's assume we're at 140kts descending 900 ft/min Autothrottle on.Does the plane reduce the descent rate a bit around 50 ft or do we manually decrease the sink rate prior to proper start of the flaring at 30 ft?

    • @hadihachem8885
      @hadihachem8885 Před 10 měsíci

      I don't think it does and at 30 ft it will actually pitch your nose down, so you need to counter that.

    • @Easyjetsimpilot
      @Easyjetsimpilot Před 10 měsíci

      You as pilot need to arrest the rate of descent. You'd ideally be doing around 700ft (normal 3° glide slope) the you'd look at flaring at around 30ft, but again, the place where you begin the flare can change, as outlined in this video

    Last year I was in a real simulator used by TAP Air Portugal pilots during the pandemic and I was told that, in a normal flaps full and no wind landing, in real life, pilots start flaring at 80 feet because the airplane takes a few seconds to respond. Can you please you confirm this?

      I've never heard of a pilot flaring as early as 80ft, but I'm also not familiar with TAP SOPs.
      Flaring at 80ft would be before the aircraft entered Flare Law which does seem very peculiar and could lead to a long landing.

    At 2:38 you say there’s a direct relationship between the THS (Trimmable Horizontal Stabilser) to the side stick. A slight error there. At 50 ft the THS is frozen. The relationship between the side stick is to the elevators. The video is a bit misleading as it’s a replay because it’s showing full up elevator. At 50 ft the THS is frozen and your side stick deflection then just directly controls elevator deflection with no auto trim getting involved. 👍
