Hi, Lisa, I can move my fingers slightly but cannot move my wrist, any suggestions you have to activate my wrist would be much appreciated! Thankyou for your amazing videos x

I've tried various ways to relax my hand and fingers including Botox. The tone would always win. I have tremors in my fingers and pain in my hand as if it wants to move but it's being restricted like something is heavy on it and making it unable to move. It always curls up when I try to move the fingers. I'm going to try your suggestion. It may not work but I keep trying to become indepentant again. I probably should accept the inevitable, my hand is gone and it won't work again. It's probably to late anyway, it's going on four years and the OT's and nurses have told me to accept the fact that it won't ever work again. But I can't help thinking that I had a mild stroke it should work again if I keep working on it. I don't know, I'm probably being stupid and stubborn and idoitic, I probably should give up, accept it. But my hand is not in a fist (only when I attempt to try to move my fingers) or close to my chest. I've was working on it as I was recovering in the hospital, (that's the first thing I started doing when I realized my arm and hand wasn't moving) stretching my arm and hand, trying to turn it over, flexing the wrist even trying to brush my teeth, simple things, yet through it all, I still can't open and close or my fingers. I just can't give up. I can't.

The brain is amazing and is able to make new neuropathways throughout one's lifetime. The key is repetition and consistency in the new behavior. Same applies to stroke recovery. However, there's no guarantee. Having a fighting attitude, though, is a great first step along with continual stretching and functional use of the affected limb. If you haven't seen some of my other videos, then please check them out about reducing tone, positioning, and using affected hand in daily activities. If those fingers want to curl up but can't hold something, then try a foam cylinder to increase the grasp. Always follow with relaxing/stretching out the fingers. You can use a ball to help hold them open while relaxing but always check for skin breakdown! Have you tried visualization to relax and/or seeing your hand open? Unfortunately, there's no easy answer and different things work for different people. If you feel in your heart to keep going, then, by all means, keep up the good fight! Keep me informed!
