I grew up with Limp Bizkit and the haters, it's fine, i've never thought of them as anything other than awesome.
I think most of the hate is because of things around Fred Durst, since i'm in the UK maybe i just wasn't exposed to much of that, but the music itself is fantastic.

Wes Borland, the one w/ the weird face paint - I'm pretty sure he was basically always like "I'm gonna just do me" and being super weird. He was in a few other weird fucking bands.
I LOVED LB but the one thing I noticed is they would always rock the Course like 6 times have 1 or 2 verses max and fill invetween full of bridges!
It was smart because the Courses were always so hard and the bridges so mellow
They used Rollin & My Way for WWF Wrestlemania in 2003

It's interesting how much our opinions can be influenced by the friends, society, and media of a particular time period, more than they're influenced by the actual thing we're acquiring opinions on. People thought Limp Bizkit were cool when they came out for the same reasons you do, and they continued to think they were cool for a few years. But then it just became (for whatever reason) lame to enjoy them. It's almost as if the hate went viral and people would feel uncool for enjoying them. Then time passes. And after that viral hate dissipates, and all we're left with to judge them by is the music, we like them again.
Humans are strange.

I so wish you would have done the album version of this. The audio version is about 1 minute longer where DJ Lethal loses his mind scratching his heart out. Do the album versions of these songs. It's so much better than the videos. These videos are cut for air time in the late 90's where 10 ad's were played between songs. Do the album version of these and trust me, you're missing out on the artistry of these bands. That goes for Korn too. You wanna freak the Fuck out? Play Korn Follow the Leader album all the way through and don't pause at all.
Rock and metal has a lot'a gatekeepers who decide what's cool or not, meaning if the music follows the old ways of making it. Limp Bizkit upset a lot of what 'metal is supposed to be' and die-hard old school fans hated it. Over the last decade they and Fred Durst have been getting some of the recognizition they deserve, like Ronnie Radke who also upset some fans early but have been forced to do a 180 and pretend they liked them all along. You'll see a lot of this in rock and metal, if there's a commentor who seem super upset by something ingenuitive, they are a gatekeeper.

Limp Bizkit is easy to hate on for some people. Same with Greenday and Nickelback. I'm of the opinion that they're just jealous of their success.
"Slender Man" is Wes Borland. It's extremely rare to see him without extreme makeup/a mask, some weird outfit, and weird contacts. Think ICP, Hollywood Undead, or Dead Mou5s.
I think the common wisdom is the first 3 LB albums are great to good, those being: Three Dollar Bill Y'all, Significant Other, and Chocolate Starfish & The Hotdog Flavored Water, after that the guitarist Wes Borland(body paint dude) left and the ironically titled Results May Vary was a very mixed bag, even when Borland(after a stint in From First To Last and creating Black Light Burns) came back it's been downhill quality-wise, the album they released with Young Money(yes that Young Money) Golden Cobra was trash, so they peaked early and it earned them a bad rep
