What you gotta do to be 1st place? This is absolutely flawless.
Because this is more of a gymnastics routine, rather then contemporary. Shes not really dancing and although the moves are nice, their more or less the same...a showcase of her flexibility, whereas a choreography should be a showcase of movement, balance, flow, flexibility, expression etc...also, I think the choreography included too many acrobatic moves, judges dont usually like seeing gymnastics.
@@missscepticism686 As far as YAGP is concerned, what is deemed to be contemporary is broadly defined. Besides, she got 3rd place not because this wasn't contemporary. She got 3rd place in the Junior division for her ballet and contemporary scores combined.
The organizers weren't put off by this piece not being contemporary when they asked her to perform it at the gala.

Cannot imagine why she was not the winner. Beautifully danced, artistry in interpretation, and flawless technique. Reminded me a bit of Judith Jamison back in the day.

@@itsjiminsnonexistentjams1221 YAGP's definition of contemporary for judging purposes is pretty broad. Basically, they classify as contemporary, anything that isn't classical ballet. Dancers have competed in the contemporary category using many different genres of dance WITHOUT being penalized for it.
It is not just the dancing. It is the pure athleticism that is so very impressive.

@@itsjiminsnonexistentjams1221 I’m not a dancer so maybe I’m not one to see all the mistakes she made in her piece that was acro, not contemporary. But I was curious so I Googled her name to see if she was still dancing. Guess what? She was on national tv as a competitor on the World of Dance. She’s also studying with a BALLET company in NYC. I think it’s ABT. Perhaps you’ve heard of them? My non-dancer self certainly has. Your Schadenfreude is showing. Perhaps you should try harder to be a better dancer instead of responding to every glowing comment on this video with the same nasty comment and such obvious vitriol. Green is not your color.

She's always at a disadvantage just for being a brown girl who does ballet. This was great! 3rd place? Really
Check out the other award winners. Both were amazing and for me did better in classical. I am a huge fan of Madison, but Ava Arbuckle (2nd Place) has the achievements to show shes just as good if not better e.g. 2nd prize at prix de lausanne etc. First place Rebecca Alexandria Hadribroto is from Indonesia and she had won YAGP the year before as well. Besides, YAGP is a really big competition so third place is obviously going to be really good.
I think it was such a stretch to say that she's at a disadvantage. The first place winner is literally a girl who is from poverty, if that isn't disadvantaged I don't know what is. I agree that Madison is amazing, her contemporary is phenomenal but the first and second place did exceedingly well in their classical performances and to say that Madison is at a disadvantage against them because of her skin color somewhat insulting to the other two who probably worked just as hard. I'll say that I'm a huge fan of all 3.

This dance was acro not contemporary. It almost could have been given to a rhythmic gymnast. She's lucky she came 3rd, shame on the person who choreographed it for her, there was barely any dance in it!
