(SPOILERS MENTIONED) Totally had the same experience. I really liked the writinf style. It was very cheeky and fun. It Started so strong but by halfway i was not invested at all. Great premise but I wanted it to focus more on Edward and the horror aspects. It just tried to do too much with mixing horror, science fiction and fantasy with the aspects of magic, religion, surrealism and alternate realities. It was just too much for it to get very deep in any of those aspects. This book could be dissected and made into like 3 different books. A lot of the characters felt pointless to me too or nearly pointless.

Sorry I'm commenting as I watch lol. One thing I wished it delved more into was when nate was with the alternate Carl. It was briefly explored but it felt very surface level and if you were speaking to your abusive father in a different form I would expect a lot more of conflicting emotions and feelings but it was a chill convo over a glass of whiskey lol.
Ollie also came across younger to me. I thought he was like 12 and then when i realized he was 15 I was shook. but I listened to this by audiobook so it could have been how the narrator had him sound.

YES! I feel like he had so many stories to tell us, and they were all included in this book! That coupled with the short chapters made for a wild ride lol I totally agree with the characters too. Who am I rooting for and why?? And like you mentioned below.. if your dad is this abusive monster then that relationship deserves more build up to the forgiveness arc.

I will add it to my June tbr. Wow, the few reviews I’ve glanced at make me nervous 😬
I’ll try to prepare myself! 😆

@@donicareads I haven't finished it yet and it's pretty gross. But it would make for a really good discussion.

@@donicareads I've gotten farther in the book and just a heads up there is some animal cruelty and sexual abuse that's very difficult to read. So just be aware if you decide to read it.

Thank you for the heads up! I know, I keep going back and forth, but since it is only 211 pages I think I will at least try and read it! It seems like it holds an important message.
