    “Lookin fer a hole” was best info in this video. However, it’s preferred as a tutorial, to tell us what size tools and all tools needed. I do appreciate the video, as I’m about to do this on my 97 GMC. Thank you.

    I just replaced my rag joint in my 1990 SS454. You dont have to replace the entire shaft and BTW there are 2 rag joints available and I had to use the smaller of the 2. Tightened up my steering real nice

  • @DoIVIiNaTo72
    @DoIVIiNaTo72 Před 2 lety

    Did you have a problem getting the spline shaft screw through? I had to open the splined part with a flat head because it wouldnt slide on the bottom shaft. Got it to finally slide but now my problem is I can't get the bolt to mate to the other side even while going through the key way. It's like the key way pushes it too far out for the bolt to thread through the other side. 😤😡🤬

    You can use a Jeep shaft and just replace the Chevy unit with the rag joint, for one that has a u-joint instead. I plan on doing that for my 97 C1500.

    • @YTInnovativeSolution
      @YTInnovativeSolution Před 3 měsíci

      If you do that, the steering wheel won't be clocked at 12. The 12 is repositioned to the left at 8 o'clock with the wheels pointed straight.

    • @TangoCharlieAlpha
      @TangoCharlieAlpha Před 3 měsíci

      @@YTInnovativeSolution I'm pretty sure that's inaccurate. There are even videos on YT about the conversion.

    • @YTInnovativeSolution
      @YTInnovativeSolution Před 3 měsíci

      @@TangoCharlieAlpha I'm aware of the videos and this conversion or option. I have a 98 C1500 and the U-Joint shaft from a Jeep Cherokee installed now. The clocking is incorrect. I should mention that this mod for me was a quick fix out of desperation and necessity, not something well planned and researched. After installing a new complete steering kit and still having issues, the steering box and rag joint are the only things remaining that are causing my specific issues. Now that the U-Joint is installed, I can feel a slight binding of the steering wheel as the U-Joint changes position at either side of the 12 o'clock as it sits now. As a result of my experiences, I will be rebuilding the steering box myself and I will be installing a new rag joint coupler.

    Are those the new steel-toe flip-flops?
    Thank you for the video.
    My steering just got loose but it came after a 2” body lift. I’m trying to find a forum to see if the loose steering has anything to do with the 2” extension rod that came with the lift. I think it’s exactly what you are doing. Or maybe I was so used to the crapy steering and I never noticed it. I hate to blame the mechanic, he’s definitely trustworthy.... hmmm. I already charged tires and rims, got a wheel alignment, and still sucks. They can’t figure it out. Tie rods, joints and pitman arms were replaced by a 4” suspension lift. Everything is practically new, except what you are pointing out. They can’t figure it out, so, it would be great if you got the answer. I’ll let you know. Thanks again.

    Best tip ever: A way to never forget the name of the RAG JOINT, think of the steering shaft as a prosthetic leg of a woman. At the end of the shaft where it looks like a thigh, a rag is usually associated with it. “She’s on the rag!”
    The phrase “on the rag” is a slang term for menstruation. 1 This phrase likely originated sometime during the late 19th century. When a woman was menstruating, she was “on the rag” or “riding the rag,” phrases that literally described the way most women up until then managed their menstruation.
