Can't wait to listen, love Ryan holiday, love your channel...my only gripe is Ryan is not really a 'disipline expert' (although I'm sure he has mastered it) he's a writer and modern stoic philosopher...but I get it, more people will click for the word disipline, gotta play the game
yep watched a few times, don't know why I haven't hit subscribe, but thank you for the reminder. Done. Keep up the great work. Your shows are fuel for my fire.
The good and the bad... I like the channel, the themes and the guests. The titles of the videos could be better (I say). What for me is really bad, is this constant request for subscriptions to the channel. Learn to appreciate visualizations. This is what matters most, whether they do Like, Share or subscribe, this will already be an extra. I think it's horrible to see and hear this little cry for subscriptions. I'm really getting tired of crying. Maybe you'd rather have 20 million subscribers and 10 views per video!! You'll get what you want when people think you deserve it, not when you ask!
Behind a brilliant mind there is another brilliant mind.
Apparently not everyone realises that subscribing is free, maybe make it clear in your next video and see if it helps
“Tolerant with others, strict with yourself”! 👏👏👏
Thats where many of us go wrong isnt it?
I forgive you
That one resonated 🤝
I applied this to my company and I went bankrupt.
David Goggins and Ryan Holiday-masters of discipline in their own right!
RYAN IS AMAZING. “HOW I ATTAIN WEALTH”
The first step to creating weaIth is figuring out your goaIs and risk toIerance - either on your own or with the heIp of a financiaI coach, and foIIowing through with an inteIIigent pIan, you wiII gain financiaI growth over the years and enjoy the benefits of managing your money
I am fortunate I made productive decisions that changed my finances (accumuIated over 1M in 2years) through my financiaI coach. Bought my 2nd house in January & hoping to retire at 52 by next year.
Give this a try and attain weaIth.

l’m amazed to partake on this, lt has rekindled the fire to my goals.
Ryan Holidays book, “the obstacle is the way” got me through one of the hardest moments in my life. I would listen to it over and over on Audible for days. I recommend it. Hearing the quotes from stoic philosophers makes me feel strong and limitless.
That book was awesome and I listen to it and his other books frequently
or *_"what stands in the way becomes the way"_* which he said at some point in this session
Same! My Mum and I loved it
'You can decide to become the person who has learned through that (difficult or undesirable) process'
- David Holiday
That's the answer to the very difficult life circumstances I've been struggling with. I could write a journal about what I'm learning. 🙏
Thank you
Today was my third consecutive day of studying for a few hours after work. 🎉 my goal is to keep it going and amking it a thing.
I love that. Do this everyday. I also wake up at 5:30 to workout. I love to improve myself.
"Do the verb instead of trying to be the noun!" This is it! 😉

I really like that one!!
🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:00 🤖 Discipline is the ability to do hard things you don't want to do for long-term benefits.
08:56 🛡️ Discipline provides freedom; it's about being in control of yourself, not others.
12:39 💪 Keeping commitments to yourself, no matter how small, builds self-discipline and self-esteem.
16:27 🚀 Discipline involves doing hard things, even when the rewards are uncertain or distant.
19:42 💡 Focus on doing the verb (action) instead of obsessing about being the noun (identity).
23:20 🤔 Root your goals in what you control to find success, according to Epictetus.
24:00 📚 Measure your success by your own standards and efforts, rather than external factors.
26:04 💡 Sometimes, unexpected and personal experiences can yield profound insights and success.
30:28 🏃♂️ Establish daily practices that bring you a sense of accomplishment and well-being.
44:19 🔥 Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and self-discovery, even if they're difficult.
48:00 🤔 Stoicism encourages asking if something truly matters before reacting or getting upset, helping gain perspective.
50:32 📚 Reading is a way to live multiple lives and discover universal themes in Eastern and Western philosophies.
53:45 💪 Doing something physically challenging every day can contribute to personal growth.
56:02 🌊 Activities like taking long walks or swimming can provide moments of peace and inspiration.
01:02:36 ⏳ Memento Mori - Remember you are mortal; understanding the brevity of life can guide priorities and actions.
01:11:37 🤔 When contemplating a valuable message for humanity, consider the reminder of life's impermanence and the importance of making the most of the time you have.
01:12:52 🎭 Marcus Aurelius' last words remind us that life is finite, encouraging us to focus on making the most of our time and leaving a meaningful impact.
01:14:17 💖 Expressing love, pride, and unconditional support for loved ones is essential, especially in a world where many things can feel conditional.
01:15:59 🌟 Successful living involves checking essential boxes, pursuing potential, making positive contributions, and appreciating each moment as a bonus.
01:22:00 🤖 Large language models like ChatGPT can be valuable tools in the writer's toolkit, but human intention, refinement, and polishing remain crucial for meaningful content creation.

My brother and I went to high school with Ryan. He was one of my brother’s good friends. It’s so awesome to see him succeed!
This podcast is truly extraordinary! The depth of insights and engaging discussions keeps me coming back for more. It's a real gem in the world of podcasts. I'm constantly in awe of the sheer brilliance of this podcast. The way it effortlessly educates, entertains, and captivates its audience is a testament to the incredible talent behind it.
Without a doubt, it's the best podcast out there!
Thank you Steven!
The Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies estimates that the average Baby Boomer has $202k saved up for retirement. According to the 4% Rule, this would result in a $8k annual retirement income. Judging by this I feel under pressure to get the most out of my $424k in savings. In order to increase my yields, I am in desperate need of guidance.

Steven out there booking what is basically my entire CZcams subscription list. Another great episode, thanks.
Yooo me too! It's like what Dr.Joe Dizpenza said about the awakening of people and them following the community
I love Ryan’s voice and laughter, it’s nice to hear a guest who doesn’t have a dead serious energy about the things he’s talking about. It goes to show that he really is at peace.
Your podcast is a companion and sometimes like a parent for me on the long journey I’ve took to become whom I want to be and to build the life that I want for myself and think would improve the world too. As a woman, it is also comforting and inspiring to see examples of great men, who look inwardly a lot and who live life courageously. Thank you so much for doing this, Steve! It is always great watching you and hearing your thoughtful questions.
I'm so happy that my New England upbringing helped teach me early stoicism: "Dress for the weather". My mother says "There is no such thing as cold weather, only inappropriate dress."
The true master of discipline in the build-
*David Goggins has entered the chat*
😳
Everyday, I take the dog to empty, waterside paths and parks - and we walk. It has done more to center me, and the dog gets a better life too.
Here are the main points from the interview explained in simple terms:
• Life is like a quiet message sender. You must pay attention to understand it, or else there could be consequences.
• Writing down your thoughts can help you understand them better.
• We can't change the past, but we can control how we react to it. Learning from past experiences is important.
• Sometimes things go wrong, and people get frustrated. Figuring out how to deal with such situations is a challenge.
• Everyone should have some rules and standards to live by. These are like personal guidelines.
• Reading is an amazing way to experience different lives through stories. The first word in the Holy Quran is "Read," showing the importance of reading.
• I believe in dressing appropriately for the weather to stay comfortable.
• Seeing water and taking a long walk can be very calming and enjoyable.
When thinking about what you contribute to the world and the legacy you leave behind, remember to make the most of the time you have.
'iqra' from Quran does not only mean reading, it actually means learn/teach, shows the importance of science. according to the islam of the Quran, not the islam of the hadith by the way.
@@inajourneycalledlife..114 i assume you didn't mean to tag me? and also the real purpose of life is not only to 'thank the creator' -this sounds too romantic and not realistic- it is doing everything that we can in the way we are meant to do and we can get the message from Quran directly which is actually the education the science leads.
He is not taking care of his soul by reading the Quran.
Cursing is not good for your life.
We cannot understand all the quran without reading the hadith. Did the quran mention how to pray and how many times???
Since I discovered this podcast, I am addicted, haven't been disappointed yet! Great conversations. Looking forward to more
I was disciplined enough to watch the entire episode and I thought it was great. It really made me put my life into perspective and is going to make me think differently about how fragile life is and how much I need to do and want to do. Excellent episode! ❤
Either you enjoy or you don’t why do you have to be disciplined to listen ?
I have very strong discipline and work ethic and I feel it can cause more stress in one's life. My husband took his own life and I was back at work a week afterwards because I had to provide for myself. I work very hard but I'm also exhausted from it. I wish I could turn off my discipline and grit sometimes so I can have a break.
I am so glad you mentioned this. Anything in excess leads to imbalance. The difference between self dominance versus self management is a thin line. Self discipline can easily slip into the destructive aspects of self dominance so we are treating ourselves harshly as opposed to taking care of ourselves holistically. I hope you find ways to grieve, rest and heal.
If you can't, who can? Stop WISHING and take control of your life.
@@elizabethk3238 easier said than done when you have a lot of personal and professional responsibilities.
Thank you for this, I relate. 🙏❤️
Deepest condolences to you. I hope you have loving, healthy, affirming support systems and relationships that engender healing. Plus a quality therapist who helps address the root of why you've felt compelled to overwork. Sometimes, it's a sense that it's dangerous to trust others or that those who were supposed to reliably provide and create safety couldn't or were irresponsible. I hope you find wonderful ways to play and relax. E.g. music, dance, etc. Even if it's just to yell in anger as music plays. Or watching stand up clips to get even brief moments of respite. You deserve care...including from yourself.
Hello Steve, just want to congratulate you for being such a great conversation facilitator. I love these types of podcasts and yours became the number 1 for me. I will buy your book for sure since I am starting a business on my own and I have great aspirations to achieve. I even aspire to be one of your guests one day talking about how is never too late to create an empire and leave a legacy in the world. Thank you so much to you, your team, and your guests.
Cancelled my gym class tomorrow morning, watched this and re-booked, thank you 💪
Huge synchronicity with Ryan ending his thoughts about how we spend our time and acknowledging that time is ticking away, just as the hour timer goes off is crazy
I finished the Obstacle is the Way and immediately started studying Stoicism and bought the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius. This man is incredible!!!
Definitely have 3 of his books! Very insightful! I definitely want to be more stoic
@@goldielocs41 he has 4 but I’ve only read 1.
The obstacle is the way

And you Mrs Mapel introduced me Ryan's book and I'm grateful ❤

Chase Hughes says "prioritize your future self" and "a failure in discipline is a failure to protect your future self" - having discipline is so important. Easy to say, can be hard to do at times. Baby steps, keep the promises you make to yourself and others. Don't make promises you can't keep.
I love Chase.
"Is this beneficial for my future self?" 😊
I found doing a really shitty job well for ages knowing that 1 day I will have the job I deserve.. It all adds up.. Now its all coming together for me
I love your style of interviewing. Even if I have heard the person before..I always feel like your interview brings a different perspective
Quick extension to what Ryan said at about 1hr in... The meaning of life is to leave this world - and probably universe - better than it would've been if you hadn't existed. For your only aim to be to "leave this place better than you found it" is somewhat limited in scope by which I mean it doesn't account for "this place" being better than you found it purely by chance. Other people have ample opportunity to improve things as you intend to, so expand your ambition in the most subtle but obvious way. Leave this place better than it would've been had you not existed.
All discipline starts with the mind ! You can have some one who doesn’t exercise their physical body but they exercise their mind. A while it is important to take care of both , discipline does not start with the body. It starts with one’s decision to meet this goal no matter what. It’s called mind over matter.
I have been reading from his book The Daily Stoic since January 1st, which gives one 'lesson' or meditation a day based on monthly themes. I am amazed how often I am presented wtih a situation each day to consider and put into action what I read at 6AM from the book! Seven months into the year, it's made a significant and positive impact on my mindset (specifically how I percieve and can 'reframe' my thinking about different situations) - which, at the end of they day, has made me a happier person. I highly recommend and plan on giving the book as a gift for the holidays.
I need this. Thank you for your comment - I just ordered the book 😊
can you give me some examples of how it helped, specifically?
What is great about ryan is his ENERGY. He loves this stuff and it comee thru in his voice n vibe
That pumps me up and gets me motivated to do x
U ever hear someone talk bout something with so much passion u ar3 drawn to it?
Such a powerful energy. But soo subtle. Most miss it.
Its awreome
I’m a writer who has been struggling for the past year about the message in my novel. What I want to write,to whom, and why. Listening to this episode opened my consciousness beyond that focus. This conversation points to paths I couldn’t or refused to recognize.
Thank you, Steven and Ryan.
If you need to listen to such clichés to find inspiration for your book, it is not a good sign.
I actually can't wait to listen to this as soon as I finish work today... Ryan is my favourite Authos, his book Discipline Is Destiny helped me turn things around....
1.5 hours listening to Ryan... I feel like a tonne of loads have been lifted off my shoulders.
Thank you for your work, to Ryan and Steven.
I wonder how many "unsubscribed" viewers are watching on their work laptop ;)
I have subscribed on my personal devices
This is a very philosophical episode, lots of reflections and the flow in the conversation is astonishing!
Some of us don't procrastinate because we'd think we'd have forever but because we feel it's insurmountable and don't even know where to begin
Thank you for one of the most interesting Ryan Holiday interviews I’ve heard. I believe he is an international treasure, and your interview style brought such clarity to the conversation. This one will definitely be watched more than once!
This is one of my favorite podcasts!!!! really enjoy the way you run your interviews, and the people you have on and how authentic you are and grounded in the way you ask things and keep things going.
Ryan you are brilliant. My favourite episode thus far and I haven't even finished it. Thank you, Steven!!
Thank you for inviting Ryan Holiday on the podcast! I've been a huge fan of his and his writing.
44:24 This is absolutely awesome Stephen! Fantastic guest, amazing insights and practical applicability for anyone. I wish I could subscribe again and again to show you how much so many of us appreciate what you’re doing here. Oh, and kudos to Ryan Holiday. This man’s revelations are gold!
Completely agree. I feel exactly the same.
"Death is the only prophecy that never fails." What an enlightment. A step forward to living a fulfilled life on my zero countdown and ensuring that i do leave a legacy. Thanks a lot Steven and the team for pulling this up.
"Death is the only prophecy that never fails." Wow, that's profound. How will you leave a legagy?
I love Ryan Holiday, he is such a treasure. Such a purveyor of great and useful information.
"want things to be the way that they are" - I'm going to be ruminating on that little nugget/headscratcher for a while
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite podcasts. For anyone who is on a journey to improve as a person in so many different areas of life this podcast is almost essential. Keep up the good work and keep bringing us these great interviews. I'm definitely watching. 👍🏼👍🏾👍🏿
Another great one! The little pieces of inspiration I can pick from each episode are great. Even better when some of the things they do/say/believe are things I already do/say/believe. It's also fun to sometimes pause the video and give my own answer as if I was being interviewed. Gets the juices going. I never knew Ryan Holiday until now and I am glad to know him and hear him speak. Thanks!
Yesssss I love Ryan Holiday!!! His book
‘The obstacle is the way’ is absolutely fantastic! Can’t wait to watch!
Very interesting. Body health has always been pushed as a priority but it's the mind that you need to understand and have control of more as this will elevate everything we do to the next level. What are you thinking, why are you thinking, why are you not doing, and what is stopping you? It is all in the mind. TY
its both! body & mind!
@@Nice_Fella Q. Which control the other?
@@bhiveliveglobalneither, they influence eachother.
Consider the Sailboat - the sail and the wind;
The shape, size, and position of the sail can harness, resist, or redirect the wind. If the sails are in damaged, the wind cannot be fully utilised. If the boats hull is not secure, the boat takes on water. Different boat shapes perform differently in different types of water.
Equally, the wind influences the sailboat. the wind can cause it to glide swiftly, or be stuck in a standstill. A strong favourable wind drives the boat forward efficiently, whilst a tumultuous wind can lead a boat astray, or lack of wind can leave the boat adrift.
Neither has control over the other, but the physical state of the sailboat and the nature of the wind are essential for a succesful voyage.
@@Nice_Fella a very good analogy and I am now somewhat convinced you have a very good point. TY
This is the most life changing interview I've ever listened to. Thank you Ryan and Steven, this was so profound 🙏
Started running 2 weeks ago and the self confidence I possess right now is beyond my wildest expectations.
Amazing conversation as usual. This channel has kept me on track to getting rid of unhealthy habits. Thank you for sharing and opening a channel for people to be better in any and every way
This was the best conversation ever. I am a fan of stoic's and read Ryan Holiday books. There was just do much to enjoy and learn from this conversation. Thank you.
10 minutes in and i love what he’s saying and how he says it… I’m going to look him up.
Fantastic guest as always, obsessed with this podcast 😍❤️
Thank you for having Ryan on the show! I'm currently reading the Daily Stoic and gaining so much from stoicism. Excellent podcast episode.
This has been posted at the right time! Discipline is what I am trying to combat and stuck in a rut - I want to workout more but motivation is lacking, I give in when I am tired. How do I get over myself? I procrastinate so badly when working these days so need to discipline myself to avoid distractions. Thank you Steven, I have pre-ordered your book and excited to read it 😊 great conversation again!!
Best advice I ever received is to get your exercise gear ready the night before. Get up and put it on and go and do it. There are no excuses then. Good luck!
Read up on adhd - I promise you won’t regret it… my diagnosis and treatment (not medication but meditation) were life-changing, and therapy is what some of us need. Reading a book can provide insights, but there are better tools to create real change in our life. Therapy can teach you HOW to change your life by “doing,” not by just reading, listening to or watching other people do things. By doing you can change your brain and change your life.
How did I miss this?? Ryan holiday is my favourite writer. Currently reading his “the daily stoic’ book. Thanks Steven for bringing him on your show.
I only watch CZcams tutorials and I am usually glad I did. I’ve learned so much from CZcams, and as a 70YO, I depend on the follow along exercises to make sure I keep my muscles strong. I’m usually working when I’m listening to a podcast such as this, and filling my mind while my hands are moving. This one was particularly helpful in my life evolution. I appreciate you!
Such an enlightening convo. Yet another quality content from Steven. Appreciate the hard work that goes into making such life changing pod casts. Keep you the good work. Thanks
This is one of my favorite " watch every day " channels!!! Keep it up, Steve. You choice of guests is superb !! I follow Ryan Holiday as Role model for the attitude to life that I embrace . Ryan - You are awesome, Bro !!!
Discipline + structure really do create freedom.
A lot of people who lack discipline, who claim to be free-spirited and live spontaneously, never get any of their meaningful goals accomplished because they're stuck aimlessly floundering around, at the mercy of all the free time they perceive to have.
They forget about Memento Mori.
I love discipline and structure!
Awesome episode! Can you please go back to saying "I hope nobody is listening... but if you are... please, keep this to yourself"???
I love you Steven. I love how you ask questions and give remarks / comments to your guests' statements.
Ever since coming across this podcast, I have been tuning in daily for my lunch hour to enjoy and digest... And im not talking about lunch 😉
I want to pre-order! This is my favourite podcast channel, changed my life
Thanks Steven, Great interview, Am a big fan of Ryan and his translation of stoic practices.
So much insight packed into an hour and a half. What an absolutely incredible conversation!
I found Ryan's channel two days ago. Nice to see him here today.
Great. Stoically great. Rampant Stoicity 🌊🍀
LOVED THIS! Brilliant Ryan Holiday.
What a wonderful podcast, thank you!!! So much powerful information. ❤❤
Goldmine of Materials:
Ryan is like a blessing in these times. Bringing backs timeless Stoicism in a simple words. Your information is priceless; Thanks both of you, for spreading the light, through your words is raising the vibration of the entire planet earth. Many blessings to all ✌️❤️🙏🫶🏽
The mind gives up before the body does
This IS just what I needed to listen to today, having done a few guided meditations and still IN my 'feelings' hahahaha - THIS PODCAST was well worth me using 'distractibility' in the Positive.... @RyanHoliday and @TheDiaryOfACEO Thank you for this, so necessary and beautiful way of 'getting to me, Me!' Thank you both again and especially Ryan Holiday for being
Absolutely brilliant and beautifully executed conversation. Thank you
Very enlightening... need pen and paper for sure! Can't remember all the gems. A huge thanks guys 🇬🇧
I loved this chat and love the podcast. You ask the best questions, one little note is when I listen to the audio version, we often hear the moving around or thumping of the microphone, which isn't the greatest
I have fallen in love with this channel. Thanks CEO
Ryan is great!!! Glad he moved to Austin- support his bookstore- he has an amazing reading list he sends me- super well read, educated guy.
Thank You
I'm so glad the comment about training came up at the one hour mark. I had only got into a conversation with someone who commented about some old stylise images of men and wrestling sample of toxic masculinity.. to which I could only grown and raise my eyes to the sky.
33:50 life is always sort of whispering feedback to you and if you don't listen to it at some point it has to hold you down and scream it in your face and uh that's avoidable
42:13 impediment to action advances action, what stands in the way it becomes the way
This has been my fav episode so far, thank u 🙏🏻
great episode of this podcast, thank you for the great content.
This was amazing! I genuinely loved listening to Ryan's answers and got so much simple yet valuable info! Thank you for this podcast
Finally !!!! Ryan is here!! This guy changed my life ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks Ryan and Steve for helping me to rephrase my perspectives on discipline
I would listen to this episode forever! thank you
I don't think I could agree more with anybody. This is how I live my life. It works for me but as he said others are not like me. I need to be more forgiving to people who are different. thanks for reminding me.
I would consider you one of the top ten interviewers platforms in CZcams’s history. Very well prepared, intelligent questions. A savvy timing and synergy with your guests that is one of the most courteous venues, giving enough time without interruption for your guests to articulate there answers. Well done.
I love this channel so much! I listen daily. 😊
I treat this like a lecture in university. I make notes. 😊 thank you for sharing knowledge and wisdom. I not hear this concept before.
Really enjoyed this episode with the goat Ryan Holiday, who is in my opinion one of the greatest authors/thinkers of our time.
You should have him on again. I don’t think you have had repeat guests, but that was a fantastic interview. And I don’t think we even really touched anything about him specifically. He has so much to teach us.
This... All. Of. This! Beautiful, unscripted, Truth.
I discovered TDACEO channel about 6 or 9 months ago and have remained a subscriber ever since. Even my doctor asked me if I knew of The Diary of A CEO on CZcams and was super stoked to say that I did. This is one of the highest quality channels on CZcams along with Lex Fridman et. al. :D
"ride, bike or run everyday" This is good.
Another favourite of mine as a guest. Love it. This was fantastic.
Thank you so much .
This is one of my favourite podcasts iv ever watched thank you!
Thank you for this. It’s come at the perfect time even if I know that it was recorded and uploaded some time ago. I have had personal difficulties over the past few years. I have tried to fight back against my huge anxiety against the future. Now it has me focused wanting to be better in my own circumstances whatever they are now and whatever they may be in future.
The video auto played following another video that I barely remember now but was unrelated to this. I’ve been cleaning the house for past hour and half, before this video started, and so the video started automatically and it’s been a great listen. Thank you for what you do and what you have done. You could stop as there’s no obligation for you to work and you’re in a great position that you built up. But you provide material like this which can be, which has been and what is life changing for so many. Thank you
