Something that is not a hack, but I've found necessary in flights: be respectful of the flight crew. You can be traveling for a meeting, wedding, vacation, funeral, it doesn't matter. The crew is there (many times very, very far from home) and they may have to endure another flight (or another hotel) while you happily arrive at your destination. Also, flight attendants are not there to serve meals or to ask "chicken or beef". They are there for your safety - keep that in mind: They were trained for that.
Jeenie, just an FYI about noise cancelling headphones. They don't cancel the screaming baby or the loud obnoxious passenger behind you or any other sounds like that. They only cancel sounds of a repetitive rhythmic sound frequency, for example the engine noise and the sound of airflow across the outside of the aircraft. They do this by listening to the sound and creating a mirror of these repetitive sounds which cancels them out. You can't cancel out sounds that constantly change. The stuff you see on TV commercials about noise cancelling eliminating noisy people etc is a myth.
Actually it depends on the brand and design. I swear by mine. And the initial shriek of a baby may come across (although muted), if baby continues to cry it is quickly muted by my headset. Same goes for talking.
As an airline employee, here are my suggestions. I suggest to bring your own food, or snacks, but make sure it's finger friendly and doesn't require heating up. Sometimes the airline food isn't enough volume, or sometimes catering issues can occur so they don't have extra food in case what they provide isn't enough. I personally like to bring cup noodles, since you can just ask for hot water to prep it. For carry on bags, some major air carriers will weight your carry on bags due to its capacity of what the overhead bin can take. If you ever pay attention, there is actually a sign where it says how much weight it can take for safety reasons. I have seen overhead bins opening up out of nowhere because it's too heavy. And yes, the airplane is filthy. They do clean the aircraft every time after a flight but when it's a quick turn, it's timed and they won't clean every single corner of the plane. Also yes, bringing your own pillow, specially for long haul flights. I also suggest to bring your own blanket, or maybe a big scarf to use it as blanket. I hope this helps.
I’ve travelled a lot internationally. I feel like certain airlines are more strict about carryon weight than others. US airlines seem not to particularly care. But my Asian and African flights almost ALWAYS weigh my carryon.
Can confirm the "special meals" are pretty meh...so she's right about that. I get them because of food allergies and severe motion sickness, so usually it's the raw fruit/veggie option- the last Singapore Airlines flight I took I swear the flight attendants sighed out of pity whenever there'd be the full meal service (and it was JFK-SIN so there were two plus a snack). One of them did bring me some snack mix from first class once they confirmed it didn't have any shellfish or dairy in it though.
If u r really nice we have made ‘custom’ meals for passengers with food from business or first too for the special meals cuz seriously the special meals are sooooo gross
@@jeenie.weenie honestly most of us with multiple food allergies and/or combinations of medical food restrictions are just SO friggin happy to have sustenance that won't kill us or make our GI tract erupt at 35,000 ft. I just wish there was a "Top 9" allergen free option to cover multiple common allergies...like my peanut, tree nut, wheat, and shellfish allergies + celiac. The GF options sometimes are safe but often have other top allergens. 🙃 And that's in business lol. Ah well.. I carry safe snacks in my carry on, and the food-vacuum that I spawned loves eating whatever I can't have 😂
Yeah. I'm allergic to nuts, first they gave me the normal meal and I was pretty hungry so it looked good. I did the taste test to see if there was any nuts in, because I always do, and it seemed fine. But then they realized their mistake and the flight attendant came to take it away from me, and I was like "it's fine, I can eat this" and she was like "nooo, you could die" in the most dramatic way possible. Even if there was nuts in it, which there wasn't, it's not like I'd just instantly die, I'll notice and stop before that happens, at worst I would have just been really uncomfortable for a few hours. Anyway, she took it and brought me a terrible special meal, was so disappointing. Ever since then I've just not told them about my allergies, and I've still never gotten a meal that has nuts in it, not even trace amounts.
By the way, I recently found out while travelling that some airlines limit your carry on bags to 7kg. Also, you can’t have more than two bags of carry on per person unless you pay for extra. Hope that helps 😊😊😊

(Not getting home earlier, but if I got stuck there it was a 4 hour versus 9 hour drive home)
I flew with Emirates from Milan MXP in November and my cabin bag weight was checked while checking-in my hold luggage. Also, compared to other airlines, my Emirates light meal tasted good enough (but a nasty flight attendant forced me to take my breakfast tray at 4 p.m. while everyone else got their breakfast at a reasonable time. She didn't take no for an answer)

I have been on international carriers in Japan who have weighed my carry on. Also agree… I ordered vegetarian on a US carrier to Asia, got the worse dried out roll with veggies that was wrapped in plastic wrap. It looked like it came out of a crew lunch bag after a 3 day trip! So, I don’t order a special meal any longer!!! Happy flying everyone!!!
Every flight I have ever flown on was completely booked, the flight attendants were super busy simply distributing drinks, meals, etc. I never saw any coach customers get any special attention whatsoever. The only time anyone I know got special treatment was when my son was a cute college student, flying for the first time, and he got bumped to first class on a flight to Australia.

i bring them treats only bc i work in the service industry and get how it can be sometimes when your serving so many ppl at once. imagine in a tight space where you have to put a smile on all the time. they never really gave me special treatment per se, they came to say thank you and that was enough but recognized they were more attentive with my elderly parents who i was traveling with which i truly appreciate.
What airlines have you been flying?? 😂😂😂 I cant remember for the life of me a time when I took a flight where FAs were smiling 😂😂😂🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ Well except one... when I flew from Chicago to London on a huge plane and there was nearly no one in economy 😂😂😂 I had an entire huge section to myself 😂😂😂 I think they were happy bc they didn’t really have to work... I generally see grumpy FAs.. some who are crazy power hungry to tell ppl they can put them on the no fly list 🤷🏼♀️ I had a racist FA tell me I couldn’t stand somewhere waiting for the bathroom in the front being super rude to me... so I moved to a less safe area to wait... other ppl had waited in the same area both before and after me with her there 🤷🏼♀️
I'm going to be flying Emirates from San Francisco to Egypt in April! I'm so excited to fly Emirates for the very first time! I will definitely bring snacks for the crew!
#5 Many international carriers do check the weight of the carryon luggage. Some have limits 7kg or 9kg. BA routinely used to weigh it at the checkin counter
Hi Jeenie, thank you for your light-hearted approach to telling us some interesting things about flying and being a member of the crew that look after so many people on a daily basis. Australian Airports have a carry on luggage Size and Weight scale near the passenger entry to check carry on luggage. We usually get pulled up if they suspect carry on is too big or heavy and have to show the fit and weight to a airport terminal employee before we reach security screening.
The one about putting your own stuff in the overheads. Tots agree my motto is if you can't carry or lift what you bring you can't expect others to help u. xx

If you fly on some really good airlines such as Singapore Airlines, you can request for Seafood meal and it's usually even better than what's being offered in their meal selection. Etc - smoked salmon, dory fish and once I was served shrimps. It really depends on the airlines. That being said, I once ordered a seafood meal and the meal options were what I wanted, so I just politely asked if I could change if everyone else already had chosen theirs (+ being served last), flight attendant was totally polite and said it was fine and served me their usual options anyway.
Regarding the ‘Create your own personal spa’ tip: Once while on a plane, I heard this repeating wet squelching sound and I look over and there’s a lady just slathering her bare feet with lotion, really getting it in there between her spread toes and rubbing. She was in a middle seat, inches from other people. And then when she was done she didn’t wash or dry her hands and continued to touch everything. So, please do consider that you are surrounded by other people at very close quarters. And limit your spa activities accordingly.

Actually it depends on the b-word what happens... there was a plane that had to emergency land in water and blew in half and the ppl on board survived 🤷🏼♀️ (They had all moved up to the front like she was talking about)
5:37 as someone with a ton of dietary restrictions due to allergies & intolerance, i'd usually order the indian vegetarian meal on flights & they'd usually end up tasty to me (as far as flight meals go lol)
Last time I flew (2019, le sigh) I was in the emergency row and the crew came and checked we understood what being in that row meant, which was really great to see.
I just wanna reiterate the drinking part. I was on a red eye flight from Ecuador to Miami. I ate dinner (sushi) before boarding and had wine with it. One the flight, I skipped dinner but ordered a glass of wine. 30 minutes later I felt sick. Jumped out of my seat to run to the bathroom. Made it up to the door then passed out right at the attendant’s feet. When I came to, I heard her talking to the captain asking for an emergency landing. And then the captain said “we are currently over Cuba. Unfortunately, We will NOT be landing early.” 😬 hearing that I shot up and said “I’m fine! It’s fine!” But after deducing how much alcohol I had with no food, the purser made me sit on the toilet seat and eat a meal in front of her to ensure I didn’t pass out again. 🤣😂 insane how strong alcohol is in the air!
My girlfriend is a flight attendant for Qatar Airways! She always tells me to bring treats for them! When we were on her leave last year, she brought a whole pizza for the crew😂 also, when I fly on flights that my girlfriend is working, she is business class flight attendant about to be promoted to a supervisor but since she’s business class, she always brings me business class food business class drinks, business class, desserts everyone looking at me like I’m weird because they’re eating economy and I’m eating business class food! I understand different she’s my girlfriend but still I figured I would share😅
Singapore airlines tried to weigh my carry-on, as well as Lufthansa in the past. Ryan air can also be picky about it if you are not careful. The majority of other airlines do not worry about it, certainly not delta (my main airline)
I think last tip meant that it’s meant to store bomb incase it’s detected onboard so that left of plane which you are talking about must me really stable place to sit since it’s designed for something fragile things like bomb and all so it’s quite safe to sit there on a regular day because it’s the most protected part of the plane
EVA AIR, at check-in, did check the weight of my carry-on out of YYZ. I think I told them I would remove something (which I didn't) and put it in my backpack. I left the counter and then just went thru security.
I remember when I booked the seat by the emergency exit with my dad, they looked at him, saw an elderly man and gave a dubious look. They then saw me, big man over 6 feet tall, easily 200+ lbs. I'm not like bulging muscles but I'm not fat either. They told me, okay, yeah we are coming to you if you need to operate the door. They told me that in the worst case scenario, to just read the instructions on the door of the plane and that it is heavy so pull with everything.
When you talked about the plane being gross... 😂 I took a flight from Brussels to Chicago last year, business, and someone left a tooth... A TOOTH .. standing up in the little storage area next to the seat. And lots of popcorn and peanut m&ms all over the chair and ground.
I used to be a vegetarian. Sometimes I would get my meal first. Other times I would get my meal the same time as everyone in my row. A couple of times I have gotten my meal after every one else has started eating. As for if they taste better, it really depends on the airline. You do not get a choice when you order a special meal. So unless you are on a special diet, I wouldn’t recommend ordering one. Also you must order a special meal when ordering your ticket. Otherwise you’ll have to wait till everybody has gotten their meals.

The Aft Left is supposed to be called “ Low Hazard Area”. If we find the bomb that’s where we placed it. If there is a smoke , that is also the door that we open to released after fighting fire in a close cabin onboard while flying. Off course there’s a procedure to this with that being done simultaneously corresponded with the Teach crew and only a bit of the door is upon Ed . This is done when the plane have reached certain altitude. … Passengers do not try this because without Proper usage… if you attempt to open the door, you will be SUCKED OUT straight away OUT of the plane and will be flying in mid air without parachute.

6:15 I tend to order vegetarian meals on flights, and generally they’re quite good, I normally go to British Airways and last time when I was flying out of London, I got a pasta with actual cheese and real fresh vegetables and you could actually taste the freshness of it. I was actually really impressed. It was premium economy, though

The Airplanes never get cleaned! It’s absolutely FILTHY, not to mention the air.

What airlines have you been flying?? 😂😂😂 I cant remember for the life of me a time when I took a flight where FAs were smiling 😂😂😂🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ Well except one... when I flew from Chicago to London on a huge plane and there was nearly no one in economy 😂😂😂 I had an entire huge section to myself 😂😂😂 I think they were happy bc they didn’t really have to work... I generally see grumpy FAs.. some who are crazy power hungry to tell ppl they can put them on the no fly list 🤷🏼♀️ I had a racist FA tell me I couldn’t stand somewhere waiting for the bathroom in the front being super rude to me... so I moved to a less safe area to wait... other ppl had waited in the same area both before and after me with her there 🤷🏼♀️
I'm going to be flying Emirates from San Francisco to Egypt in April! I'm so excited to fly Emirates for the very first time! I will definitely bring snacks for the crew!

#5 Many international carriers do check the weight of the carryon luggage. Some have limits 7kg or 9kg. BA routinely used to weigh it at the checkin counter

Hi Jeenie, thank you for your light-hearted approach to telling us some interesting things about flying and being a member of the crew that look after so many people on a daily basis. Australian Airports have a carry on luggage Size and Weight scale near the passenger entry to check carry on luggage. We usually get pulled up if they suspect carry on is too big or heavy and have to show the fit and weight to a airport terminal employee before we reach security screening.

If you fly on some really good airlines such as Singapore Airlines, you can request for Seafood meal and it's usually even better than what's being offered in their meal selection. Etc - smoked salmon, dory fish and once I was served shrimps. It really depends on the airlines. That being said, I once ordered a seafood meal and the meal options were what I wanted, so I just politely asked if I could change if everyone else already had chosen theirs (+ being served last), flight attendant was totally polite and said it was fine and served me their usual options anyway.

Regarding the ‘Create your own personal spa’ tip:
Once while on a plane, I heard this repeating wet squelching sound and I look over and there’s a lady just slathering her bare feet with lotion, really getting it in there between her spread toes and rubbing. She was in a middle seat, inches from other people.
And then when she was done she didn’t wash or dry her hands and continued to touch everything.
So, please do consider that you are surrounded by other people at very close quarters. And limit your spa activities accordingly.

Actually it depends on the b-word what happens... there was a plane that had to emergency land in water and blew in half and the ppl on board survived 🤷🏼♀️ (They had all moved up to the front like she was talking about)
5:37 as someone with a ton of dietary restrictions due to allergies & intolerance, i'd usually order the indian vegetarian meal on flights & they'd usually end up tasty to me (as far as flight meals go lol)
Last time I flew (2019, le sigh) I was in the emergency row and the crew came and checked we understood what being in that row meant, which was really great to see.
I just wanna reiterate the drinking part. I was on a red eye flight from Ecuador to Miami. I ate dinner (sushi) before boarding and had wine with it. One the flight, I skipped dinner but ordered a glass of wine. 30 minutes later I felt sick. Jumped out of my seat to run to the bathroom. Made it up to the door then passed out right at the attendant’s feet. When I came to, I heard her talking to the captain asking for an emergency landing. And then the captain said “we are currently over Cuba. Unfortunately, We will NOT be landing early.” 😬 hearing that I shot up and said “I’m fine! It’s fine!” But after deducing how much alcohol I had with no food, the purser made me sit on the toilet seat and eat a meal in front of her to ensure I didn’t pass out again. 🤣😂 insane how strong alcohol is in the air!
My girlfriend is a flight attendant for Qatar Airways! She always tells me to bring treats for them! When we were on her leave last year, she brought a whole pizza for the crew😂 also, when I fly on flights that my girlfriend is working, she is business class flight attendant about to be promoted to a supervisor but since she’s business class, she always brings me business class food business class drinks, business class, desserts everyone looking at me like I’m weird because they’re eating economy and I’m eating business class food! I understand different she’s my girlfriend but still I figured I would share😅

Singapore airlines tried to weigh my carry-on, as well as Lufthansa in the past. Ryan air can also be picky about it if you are not careful. The majority of other airlines do not worry about it, certainly not delta (my main airline)

I think last tip meant that it’s meant to store bomb incase it’s detected onboard so that left of plane which you are talking about must me really stable place to sit since it’s designed for something fragile things like bomb and all so it’s quite safe to sit there on a regular day because it’s the most protected part of the plane

EVA AIR, at check-in, did check the weight of my carry-on out of YYZ. I think I told them I would remove something (which I didn't) and put it in my backpack. I left the counter and then just went thru security.

I remember when I booked the seat by the emergency exit with my dad, they looked at him, saw an elderly man and gave a dubious look. They then saw me, big man over 6 feet tall, easily 200+ lbs. I'm not like bulging muscles but I'm not fat either. They told me, okay, yeah we are coming to you if you need to operate the door. They told me that in the worst case scenario, to just read the instructions on the door of the plane and that it is heavy so pull with everything.
the AVL code asian vegetarian special meal is amaaaazing. ive always got great curries and roti on all my long haul flights this way.

If you fly airasia out of KL every carry on for every passenger was weight checked. But other flights on airasia were not checked
When you talked about the plane being gross... 😂 I took a flight from Brussels to Chicago last year, business, and someone left a tooth... A TOOTH .. standing up in the little storage area next to the seat. And lots of popcorn and peanut m&ms all over the chair and ground.
I used to be a vegetarian. Sometimes I would get my meal first. Other times I would get my meal the same time as everyone in my row. A couple of times I have gotten my meal after every one else has started eating. As for if they taste better, it really depends on the airline. You do not get a choice when you order a special meal. So unless you are on a special diet, I wouldn’t recommend ordering one. Also you must order a special meal when ordering your ticket. Otherwise you’ll have to wait till everybody has gotten their meals.

The Aft Left is supposed to be called “ Low Hazard Area”. If we find the bomb that’s where we placed it. If there is a smoke , that is also the door that we open to released after fighting fire in a close cabin onboard while flying. Off course there’s a procedure to this with that being done simultaneously corresponded with the Teach crew and only a bit of the door is upon Ed . This is done when the plane have reached certain altitude. … Passengers do not try this because without Proper usage… if you attempt to open the door, you will be SUCKED OUT straight away OUT of the plane and will be flying in mid air without parachute.

6:15 I tend to order vegetarian meals on flights, and generally they’re quite good, I normally go to British Airways and last time when I was flying out of London, I got a pasta with actual cheese and real fresh vegetables and you could actually taste the freshness of it. I was actually really impressed.
