I'm really happy about Edwards coming back because - as I've said a few times - our next manager won't have Klopp's stature and experience (unless we go for a Mourinho or Conte - which I pray we don't) and will therefore need a strong setup around him to succeed. With Edwards and (potentially) Hughes in place, I'd be okay with any of the young, upcoming coaches whose names are being floated about (Alonso, Amorim, Nagelsmann, De Zerbi, Sanchez). My concern is that, if we give Alonso loads of time and space to make a decision and then find out that he's staying-put, Bayern, Barca and Chelsea could end up nipping in and getting our second or third choice and leaving us with someone like Tuchel...

I think if you are going to have a multi club format, the sensible thing is have one in South America, Asia, and one in Europe. That way you will have a pathway into all the big markets and hopefully a closer ear to the ground for any potential future stars.

Great chat lads, thanks! As Josh points out I think we were absolutely at the point where the manager was running the majority of the recruitment process and where ME didn't feel valued and his work was being ignored - and so he voted with his feet.
The common chat was that he recommended an update on the midfield and located Martinez (Chelsea) & Guimares (Toon) with both valued at about 15m each and also advised against renewing Hendo's deal. JK famously belittled and berated anyone who suggested the midfield needed attention and promptly gave 31year old Hendo a 4 year contract - which he scarpered from a year later!
The new set up should/could absolutely suit Xabi; very much a hands on coach who could add a serious level of technical ability to the team - particularly the midfield. Exciting times.

Remarkable analysis and top notch view of what Michael Edwards will do under Liverpool 2.0. Thus, this will be a new platform and working Richard Hughes will need to know the right targets and the model to use to find the player for Liverpool.
Furthermore, Chris glad you shared some history on how Edwards has transformed the Liverpool squad over the 10 years. Josh this quite an analysis on how the Liverpool squad has evolved over the years. Fair enough and enjoying the deep dive segment🔥🔥🔥👌🏾

Such a great episode. This appointment possibly answers some of last summer's questions. Reverting to a process for decision-making rather than a person seems like the best structure for long-term success.
Added bonus for Josh losing his head while romaticizing the memory of Michael Edward's odor. 😂

Love the deep dive, lads. Around Alonso, using Mourinho as a proxy, there's no doubt the data didn't predict he'd become as successful as he has based on the CL at Porto. The fact he went and did that shrinks the error bars based on sample size and increases the confidence that the lad can get results at the highest level and arguably more with stronger squad. I've little doubt that if a fee can be agreed with Leverkusen, Edwards/Hughes/FSG will want Alonso at Anfield.

i've been an ice-hocket fan for 20 years and the NHL teams all have an affiliate 'minor' team. it would be like if Liverpool became an affiliate club with a championship team but without promotion/relegation as part of the system. it works very well for player development within one club system

  • @kengo8311

Chris is bang on with multi club ownership. Given the lack of rules currently, a club as large as Liverpool has to at one point start considering it, but it's a huge loophole that screams conflicts of interest that bigger authorities need to clean up.

Made up to see edwards return to lfc, for me theres a massive elephant in the room for edwards recruitment is the fact that a lot of the credit for quality of players is down to klopp and not edwards. Edwards was sporting director with rodgers in charge, only when klopp came in the positive changes happened

What a time to be a Liverpool right now with Michael Edward’s coming back home and to me this is sounds like a new signing and Edward’s turned down Utd, Chelsea and Real Madrid and probably more teams that is for sure.
I cannot stop smiling with is fantastic news. Roll on Sparta Prague and then Utd in the FA Cup on Sunday the future is very bright indeed and all the players need not need to worry because Edward’s will start working on new contract’s for Van Dijk, Trent and Mo along with other players and yes John Henry and FSG have made some massive mistakes since they took over but we as Liverpool fans should just appalled John Henry and FSG for bringing Edward’s back and they have a new sporting director coming from Bournemouth and now all this is in place it is now time to go and get Xabi Alonso now. YNWA

every other club seem to be doing the multi club ownership thing and using it as an advantage so its about time we start doing it. And with these saudi clubs like man city and newcastle doing it, I think its important that we do the same just to be able to compete with them. But I agree, this should never have even happened in the first place.

Multi-club ownership may be fun and games while one is top of the pyramid. It's probably a lot worse when one is not. There's always a bigger fish in the sea. One way or another, monopolisation via multi-club ownership will kill the game. I can't blame LFC, because the regulatory bodies should've done something to stop it.

If Edwards comes in an sells Salah, or VVD, he can duck back off to mickey mouse land,..Edwards first job should be double Diaz wages from £50,000 per week and Endos, wages. How the Duck do we pay Nat Phillips more than Diaz and Endo, its ducking disgusting. Sell Phillips, offload Thiago, Matip an Phillips and that saves £310,00 in wages each week, sell Phillips for £8 million, and keep the money. Tie down Salah VVD, TTA, Jota, Diaz, Alisson, Salah, with £50,000 each pay rises. VVD , Salah get contract extensions to keep them here till January 2027. We can buy an additional CB if we need one.
