instagram hairstylists... let's talk about it

- let's talk about the rise and fall of IG hairstylists. it's lack of professionalism, inconsideration of our natural hair, outrageous service charges and crazy booking systems that have left us stressed, edges snatched and money finished.
lol as much as this video is for entertainment purposes + not all hairstylists are the same, there are some real issues we have to discuss and not settle with!
(p.s. i will be going to select hairstylists so dont @ me + just enjoy the video xx)

Come with hair washed and prep for $400 gurrrllllllll 🙄 it’s the fact that people actually pay the price to get BRAIDS done is beyond me
may as well get a off-peak ticket to ghana and get my braids done at this rate x
@@MelaninMichie preach sis. I live in the states and chillleeeee, somebody had to say it🤷🏾♀️
That is £400 so $500 😮
Cos i can't do it myself🤧
@@christinea.a.a nothing name can’t. Can’t Is a mind set not an action. Practice makes perfect, try and try until you succeed
THIS IS EXACTLY WHYYYY i do my own hair. Just give me two days, coffee , and some chicken wings, and water. BAM got my hair done.
Not the food referencing😂😂😂😂
Definitely some spicy wings for the break! 😅
😂😂😂😂
Oh yes those were the days! But now it is just giving me mad shoulder and backpains and therefore migrains! :(((
the two days, chicken wings and water are me af 🤣🤣🤣
lawddd for £400 I want braids down to my knees, 4 people working on my head at once, and getting a foot massage the whole time.
ABBIE 😂😂
knees? it better be to my feet i want my braids to still be in the room when my body is out of it
And i want unlimited beverages while they are braiding, and one of them to serenade me.
@@queenreg7 🤣🤣😂
I hate passing the hair when I have braids. It’s such an annoying experience when I’m the paying customer.Take note hairdressers 🤨
Mine even clicks her fingers at me when I’m slow 😐
@@Tashas_Travels Yeah I’ve had that too! 😯And sometimes you haven’t given enough, sometimes too much.. they expect you to concentrate as well! I wanna say “get it yourself then!”😂
😂😂😂 no but why is this low-key trauma? im triggered
Same. I dislike it so much.
I thought I was the only one... I really want to start doing my hair myself from the end of this month.
this is exactly why i love my african aunty, she's never switched up on me and she'll never stoop to these IG hairstylists level. She charges me $100 for the same hairstyles these girls on IG are getting and she blow dries my hair
That was my experience as well! I just braided my own hair for £11.99 haha. And I think it's also so horrible that is the price just for braiding excluding pre-care treatment. 🥴
girl. don’t get me started.
I hate that they use the word thick when really you know that they definitely mean texture/curl pattern. They're trying to determine if your hair will be type 4 by asking about thickness. It is kind of hard to determine thickness. Like what scale are they going off of? My density is very thin but I'm sure these stylists would try to convince me that my hair is thick simply because of my hair type meanwhile a girl with straight hair could have extremely high-density hair and coarse hair strands and I doubt they would charge her extra.
Omg you just get prettier and prettier I can'tttt 😭
🥲🥲🥲
$400 is wild. Braids are one of the easiest styles to learn to do yourself. It's just time consuming so I can understand paying a stylist but not that damn much 😩
Girl the first time I did my hair it took me 8 hours, around 60 braids which were waist lenght (which is pretty good for the first time I'd say). I refuse to pay someone hundreds of euros for a hairstyle I can do by myself lmao 😭✋🏾
She's glowing, your honor! You look gorgeous 👏Also $300-400 AND you have to be fully prepped upon arrival?? I've been learning how to do my own hair at home and ya'll, give it a shot if you haven't yet. I'm not that great at twisting but I was able to do my own jumbo twists for like 40 dollars in 3-4 hours (including dancing and snack breaks lol). The stylists near me were charging over 200+ dollars, no wash, blow dry, dancing, or snacks included!
snacks AND dancing? we got a multifaceted babe on our hands 😂🫶🏾
Maybe I missed something but I’m pretty sure she said she washes it and blow dries it.
Love the effort you put into this video Michelle♥️.. I live in South Africa so we don't really have this dilemma, you can literally go to the hair shop and find braiders waiting outside for you to buy hair so they can negotiate a price to braid you. Braiders are often from neighbouring African countries like Zimbabwe or Zambia.
This was so informative thank you for shedding light on the fact that it’s daylight robbery (especially when you have to do 90% of the job for the stylists). I used to do my own hair but for convenience got lazy! You’ve inspired me again, time to start braiding again (and your hair came out beautiful 🥰❤️)
ahhh yes let’s do some styles together this year 🤭💖
I’ve been trying to get knotless braids for months now . But I’m not paying $300-$400 for me to come with my hair washed and blow dry , with $50 just to book the appointment, come with my own hair extensions (human hair ) and with an unnecessary attitude. They are soooo rude , have you waiting for an 1hr to start . No ! , just no !
i remember back in the day, the most you'd get charged by auntys was £50-£60, i cant imagine by more than three digits, including me buying the hair and/or products and the travel there???!! please abeg, there's multiple tutorials on youtube i'm good
likeeeeeee 😂😂😂😂
Yeah! I think these IG stylists are overcompensating for our aunties. When you think about it £50 for a full head of braids is ridiculous, hence why they try to do more than one head at once and the shops are always a mess. But £400 having to get the hair yourself, no hair care etc is just ridiculous.
Love the video. I made the mistake of going to one of the stylist in Peckham. She couldn't confirm a price upfront, told me she could do trianglular partings, but that was a lie, a horrible experience. Having let my hair grow out for a year, the lack of care of hair set me back masively. That hairstylist inspired me start doing my hair myself and my hair is thriving. No one can care for my hair better than me!
girlllllllll don’t watch me shed a tear coz our stories b matchin like 😭😭
there’s deffo hairstylists that care for our hair equally as much as we can/ do, but they’re in the minority.
I’ve been going to the same person for braids for years, but lately she’s increased her prices, either due to costs of living or because she’s doing hair full-time now). I pay £150 for small knotless braids to my hip, but I did want to shop around to see if I could get any cheaper. I came across a page which was cheaper, but said in the T&Cs “if your hairstyle takes less than 4 hours, you won’t be allowed to use the toilet” I’ve never unfollowed so fast! Even though my hair would definitely take longer so wouldn’t apply to me, it’s the principle. How can you forbid people from using the toilet???
Wtf even a restaurant let's u use the toilet if u a paying customer.
We girls should all learn how to braid and braid ourselves, our sister and our friends…. This is crazy❤️
‘i braid for you, you braid for me’ living 🫂
@@MelaninMichie YES SIS!!
Kinda off topic but, the editing on this video is on point ✨✨
this is not off topic. tysm + i appreciate you! 🫶🏾
@@MelaninMichie aw no problem! 😊😊
No. Fricken. Ways 😮😮🙊
I can’t even imagine paying that much on a style that lasts 1 month.
i didn’t even think about that 😂😂😂😂 lord have mercy
I rather use a lot of time over a lot of money. I just did crochet locs and it took me two days, but saved me $300
Those prices are ridiculous
High way robbery!!!! £400 when I lived in england I paid 50, 70, and 100 pounds for my braids. Even that was too much. I am back home in Nigeria and I would even get charged the equivalent of £5 for braids but I like your tip of watching the braids first to get rid of the chemicals
I’m so shookethh at UK prices, not to even mention US prices. Here in the netherlands i will pay between 80-170 euros getting waistlength boxbraids . 5 years ago this used to be 60-70 ! I’m not talking bout salons tho
You can come with your hair fully done and they will still charge you a ridiculous price, kmt 😂
I'm sooo glad my mum can braid my hair cause chile.. these prices are no joke🥵
I’m not pressed about price what I need is professional conduct, good service and a quality result
This is exactly why I’m learning to do my own hair. Thank you for this video!
you are so welcome hun! 💖💖
the editing on this video is so dope! Also, you look STUNNING❤❤❤
This is why I do my own hair! Once in a while I go to this very nice uni girl to do it for me when I don’t have time. She’s very affordable! Her prices don’t go past £80\100. I usually get my braids done for £40 or less cause I don’t like complicated styles and very long hair. And if we go way past the time she said it’d take, like this one time I missed my last bus home she paid for my taxi home. She’s the only person I let do my hair beside myself
I’m actually dying 😭😭😭 that’s why I always go to my aunty but I do pay her approximately 40-50 euros depends on the style. That’s why all of us have to learn how to braid because chille😮💨
Happy Saturday Michie, I've never had that issue with IG hair stylists because I didn't want to deal with the stress of everything. It is very outrageous how they charge for the hairstyle and all the extra stuff 😅 Loved today's video 😊😊 Sending lots of love ♥️♥️♥️♥️
one of the lucky ones 😂💖 don’t get me wrong tho there are some good ones. i just need some consistency girlllllll
love this editing so much 😍
I’m literally in the middle of braiding my hair I don’t know anything about washing it so hopefully it doesn’t hurt my scalp love the video❤
Honestly Ghana braiders have yanked out my edges to the point I can’t get braids until it grows in plus London ones the attitude… mad
Practice makes perfect. I’ve been doing my own hair and so far, so good thanks to CZcams University.
I can’t with the thousand dollar prices and unprofessionalism.
YES WE A TIRED!
I’m so blessed I found a braider that wash blow dry and styles my hair for a decent price 😅 but I defo had those sad experiences
I had an instagram hairstylist cancel on me the morning of, then reschedule me only to cancel me again! Asking for 330 for braids and wanting a $100 deposit up front. I was reimbursed my deposit but canceling two weeks in a row put me in a bind when I could have found someone else! This is out of control🤷🏾♀️
I am in South Africa and the fact that salon dont was and prep is insane
$400 is crazy😭
i was shook
The industry in Europe is hella underpaid. I pay my Lady 75 euros and bring my own hair and prep my hair myself. However, she always shows p 1 hour late, takes breaks in between to cook for her kids/ pick them up somewhere. But I never saw a price above 150 euros to be honest. I'm not saying that's good, but it is custom. 300 euros sounds a lot, but if the context is professional, the hairdresser works quick and it looks good, it could make sense i guess. I would just never get braids done ever again.
Please can you do more braiding hair videos I really like them. They’ve taught me how to do my own hair
this a new series, i gotchuuuu
The fact that the most expensive braids here in Botswana are the Masai braids and they are at most BWP 1500 which is around $120 . At MOST. And that's not a normal hairstyle everyone does. It's mostly corporate baddies. And very few of them TBH
The average hairstylist won't charge you more than BWP400 for braiding. That's about $35.
It’s no different in the US it’s wild how much they charge
I be stretccchinggg my braids to get a s much out of it as i can when i get them now. Cos these prices 🤧
on a SATURDAY? God is good.
switching it up baybeeeee
Had the worst experience at a local hairdresser who charged me so much, it was insane…
So thank you so much for the inspiration, I will definitely try braiding my own hair next time❤
wait what did I hear £400.00 with you washing your own hair come now!!!! That's bloody ridiculous - my soul has left my body ha ha
Came back to finish the video. £300?! For bra length?!! Yesu
DKDK TV in the background
😂😂
Easier to learn how to do your hair. I started doing my hair years ago. And have saved 1000s of dollars. No. No. No. stop paying people to do your hair for these prices
Lol not you watching ramyun and chill😆
😂😂😂 damn you actually caught meeeeee
Just praying the 'sacred hair shop' you visited isnt paks or asian owned 🙏🏾 your hair looks gorgeous 👌🏾
Idk about London but a lot of “black” hair shops are owned by Asians in general so…
@@emilyjohnson4695 And there are also alot of black owned hair shops. What is the point you're trying to make here? That we should give our money to anti black communities who hate black ppl but are happy to take our money?
@@Lola.185 omg! Absolutely not. I also feel a certain way when I see black hair shops owned by Asians and it rubs me off the wrong way too. I'm all in support for black hair shops being BLACK owned
Just dont get it?
@@Renee-pv2iz exactly people acting like they being forced to go to them, do it your self or go to a shop stop hating because you chose to pay 400 dollars 😭 your the dummy in this situation
hun… this is youtube. it’s just entertainment 🤧
