As a horticulturist, teaching and sharing this amazing world of growing your food, utilizing your harvest, and homesteading with our family, is a passion. Every week you'll find us in the garden, working on another aspect of homesteading life, and occasionally just enjoying the wildness of raising a large family in the country. Welcome to the garden, to the kitchen, and to our small farm in South Carolina.
We hope to encourage people to grow their own food, feel confident in homesteading, and live a life both messy and beautiful, because this life comes with a bit of dirt and a lot of love.

Faith is like a seed; plant it in your heart. God gives the harvest at the appointed time. (Mark 4:26-27,28-29)
For anyone reading this in the south, we have just passed our last frost date Wednesday. It's been warm and sunny with so much less rain than last year. The strawberries are throwing out blooms that are pollinating at an amazing rate. I will send you some pictures. The garden is looking amazing I was showing off your garden and everyone loves the raised beds. God bless and happy gardening everyone.
Seth and I really enjoyed the photos of the strawberries! They look outstanding!! Funny story, my oldest daughter (Layla) said her favorite dog in world is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, randomly this last Tuesday and my first thought was, "that's where Darren lives!" lol! 💚
Finally I found a garden channel I can actually relate to without all the fancy expensive stuff just plan old natural gardening ❤🌷
I'm so glad! 💚💚
Goodness such a cute apron! I need one lol
Thank you! It was a birthday gift from Seth! 💚
Oh my gosh, YES! to a video on how you turn your herbs into teas, please!! 🤗
I plan to shoot it in the next week or so! 💚
Would love a tea video!! ❤️
assassin bugs scared the crap out of me the first time I saw it 🤣 I've learned to take a jar with me and capture bugs I don't recognize for identifying, then I'll release or kill them. Easier than to run back outside to try to catch it again when they are pests.
They look scary! Especially the red and black ones!
Yes to the tea video please
I love the garden and the assortment. Yellow Wax beans would also be a good choice. Your garden is a little ahead of mine, north central Alamama. I've switched from growing bush beans to pole beans. They are more productive, and utilize less garden space growing them verically. Over the last few days, I have harvested out my shelling peas, snow peas, and kohlrabi. I've also harvesterd the potatoes, Swiss Chard, bunching onions, cucumbers, peppers, lemon squash, crookneck squash, and zuchini. The garlic is almost ready to harvst, and my mustard greens are ready for the third reaping. My pepper plants and tomato plants are loaded with fruit. I also have a lot of herbs growing, spearmint, peppermint, comfrey, catnip, dill, basil, lemon thyme, oregano, yarrow, chicory, parsley, comfrey, garlic chives, cilantro, rosmary, and Goji Berries. I have flowers growing placed straticically throught my garden, straw flower, Bahelor Button, cosmos, marigolds, assylum, zinias, butterfly flower, columbine, and more.
It sounds like you have quite the impressive garden yourself! I do have a small patch of yellow wax beans, my children said they really loved the flavor so we will be doing more next year! How do you feel like the comfrey is growing? This one I'd like to add to the garden as well!
@@ShepherdingPeppersFarm I purchased comfrey root stock from Etsy last fall, Russian Block 14. They took about three weeks to sprout, so now would be a good time to get some. The plants are ghrowing fantastically well in the worst soil on the property, putting up flower stalks with small violet bell shaped flowers. I cut the dying leaves and add them to my compost to add essential minerals.
You and your garden are an inspiration 😍💜
Thank you! 💚💚
The italians plant a tomato plant at the entrance of the grapevine row to atract the pests to it and have great grapes
Thanks for sharing. 😊 I can very much understand why!
Hermoso 🤩 so beautiful 😍 😍😍😍😍
Thank you!!!! 💚
I'm so glad I came across your channel! Thanks for sharing! New subbie from CT here to support 😊
I'm thrilled your here! 💚
i love tea so much
Me too friend! Coffee has always been my favorite but teas have been coming in a strong second lately!
Yes please!! I'd love to see a tea video!!
Would love a video on how you make teas!! :)
I Want so badly to have a garden like yours but zero time. I 100% admire you and you inspire me!
Thank you! What a wonderful compliment! 💚
Hello Natasha Can you show us how you replanted the onion after cutting to stalk. Yes to the tea video. The flowers look wonderful.
Thank you! I'll definitely try to get that added in when I shoot the next 'garden chore" type video! I have a whole pile of them in the garage ready to go out the first change I get. 💚
Coucou
Encore une belle vidéo 😊😊😊
A bientôt
Merci mon ami!
@@ShepherdingPeppersFarm c'est avec plaisir 😊
Love your videos. I'm in washington state and I lm praying for less rain and more sunshine. ❤
Thank you! I used to live in WA and remember that feeling vividly, so I'm hoping you get that sunshine soon! 💚
Good morning Natasha! Your garden is doing amazing! You’ve inspired me to cut some of my flowers. I have tons. Even some burnt orange colored sunflowers.🌻
Questions:
How are you attaching your labels to your herbs?
I harvested lemon basil yesterday here in Ft Worth and it smelled soooo good! That’s a variety I haven’t grown before.
Also I have a big patch of catmint and I’d love a video of your herbs; harvest -to- storage and tea recipe. Also…a tutorial on making balms with calendula. That’s about 4 videos right there.😄Have a blessed day
Just a piece of scrap paper, I tie the herbs with a thin black plastic hair tie and shove the paper between the band and herbs. When they are stored long term in the house I label the jars with a chalk marker label. I'm definitely planning to shoot the video for the tea in the next week or so! And I love the idea for a video on making the balms with calendula! I'm going to make a note of that. I love all the video ideas!
Yes , Please ,for all the teas and herbs and what ones to put together ! Could you do a few other videos on all the kinds of mints, basils, ect.. I just saw that there is pineapple mint, apple mint, ect.. Do you put the leaves of berries in with you tea leaves to make the fruit blends ?? Thank you for sharing your knowledge and love for gardening!! ❤❤❤😊
Oh yes, truthfully the more I think over it the more I realize the teas and herbs could be a whole series! 💚
❤❤❤
👍
Where do you get your mint seeds? I love them and trying to get all kinds of varieties. Plus love the pink Roo apron!!!!
Please, could you do a herbal tea / herbal medicine information video? As a coffee fan, I would much rather have the option to grow teas for cost savings and the health benefits!
As for questions, I see that your garden grows at an astronomical rate compared to mine. Do you use any fertilizer (I use a fish fertilizer every 2 weeks) or are you just going with amendments prior to planting? Or are the benefits of companion crops that great?
I have a cucumber plant that seems to be growing extremely fast, so fast that it's struggling to stand up. Should I replant it for more support? And is there anything you use for root growth after starting from seeds?
Lastly, I just wanted to say that your channel was suggested to me by CZcams out of nowhere (I typically watch car videos, woodworking diy builds and politics). So I honestly didn't know what to expect when I started binge watching your content, but I watched everything you've posted. The massive amount of information you share makes me wish I had kept up with notes for myself! So, I wanted to give a massive thank you for the high-quality content and knowledge you've chosen to share with us.
Hey! I am definitely planning to shoot the tea video in the next week or so. I did shoot a video this week where I answer several of the questions we've gotten lately in the comments, and I made sure to cover these (they are great questions!) And thank you! Sometimes CZcams can be a challenge and comments like this are more encouraging than you could possibly realize. 💚
@ShepherdingPeppersFarm Currently watching today's video. Please don't feel the need to rush, I assume every minute of your day is booked solid. 😁
As for me, everything had taken off! My cucumbers are flowering and I didn't have a need to replant that one. It just wanted to run horizontal to the ground at the start, but is reaching foe the sky now. ❤️
Beautiful ❤️
Thank you!
Just found you and subscribed :)
I'm so glad! 💚
When saving small onions to replant - do you let them cure/dry and replant in the fall? Or replant right away?
9 times out of 10 I'll replant right away, however this week has been very busy and I have a basket ready to go outside sitting in the garage that I plan to get around to next week. They replant well either way!
Hello from INDIANA. If I could make a request. I have really started diving into your videos and lovely family. Your channel design is so pretty but the white text on the pink background is very difficult to read. If you could just update that to be easier to read it would be wonderful!! Thank you! 😊
I will take a look at the editing software and see if I can do something about that.
Beautiful! Where are you from ?
Originally or currently?
ARE YOU GOING TO TRY METAL BEDS SOON. YOUR WOOD BEDS LOOK LIKE THEY WILL NOT LAST MUCH LONGER. I love wood beds but they donot last. Iwent to metal beds slowly. I stillhave 4 wood beds too.
These beds have lasted a few years already, and we will probably try reinforcing them. We do have a couple of metal beds on the side of the house but they are much smaller.
Tomatoes are a nightshade unfortunately
yes they are 😊
you just alaways give us so much great information i love your channel...sadly i live on the opposite coast and in a high desert area, so our grow time is very limited and so i what we can grow ...but i try anyways! and i love learning from you! thank. you so much for your continuing work on your channel! 🪴🍆🌻🥀
Thank you for the wonderful compliment! Its very encouraging and appreciated! 💚💚
