    Watching this is like playing where's waldo and im having a good time. Unrelated but at my work literally all our testers are middle aged women, they're particularly excellent at their job because we can test how intuitive it is, how easy it is to break and also receive really thorough notes on what we failed to get right the first time LMAO in all sincerity they're good folk

    Just a bit of clarification on QA. I would say about 90% of the time, all bugs are known and logged, but either there's no time to fix or managers claim it "ok for launch" as they think it'll be rare or hard to reproduce. To say "more QA time is needed" makes it sound like a failing in QA. Anyhow, really good video!

    • @iRywo
      @iRywo  Před měsícem +1

      Yeah I completely understand that as well, and it's not like QA is failing either! I would also lay the issue more at the insane deadlines placed on games and unrealistic expectations from managers. More time would help the QA teams get the recognition they deserve, because the work they do is amazing and definitely already has a massive impact! Thanks for watching and I appreciate the compliment c:

      And we are very often unwanted cost, that is cut first, without much thought how it will impact the game.

    As someone who works in QA, I can tell you that "fun" testing does still occur! You have destructive and golden path testing. The former where you try to break your title as much as possible and the latter where you just go through a playtrough as a normal person might.
    How much feedback a dev accepts during golden path testing (and just from QA in general) greatly influences the production of a game in a very positive way.
    Unfortunately due to how the games industry has been evolving, giant projects will have whole departments up top deciding that certain features must be added, even if they have mainly negative feedback.
    I can also assure you that Cyberpunk did have lots of testing behind the scenes and 9/10 times bugs that people encountered were found and reported, but had to be accepted as not feasible to fix in time. Time crunch hurts at all stages of production.

    • @iRywo
      @iRywo  Před měsícem

      Thank you so much for this. I am super glad to hear that "fun" testing is still actively being done. Of course, it's not really up to the QA Testers how much of it gets used, but its still amazing to hear! I really do hope the industry shifts towards a direction where it's made a heck of a lot more important than adding extra features or negative features. Cyberpunk of course has a solid company behind it. Sadly, even the best among us sometimes don't have much choice due to pressure from management or investors :c thanks for the input! Always great to hear and learn more c:

    Something that seems like it may never happen again, is what Valve was doing when they were making the Orange Box, They would get regular people of all types that played lots of games, some games and no games, to test and their findings not only astonished them but also made them make sweeping changes to the games that made them more accessible, improved pacing, and improved the over all quality of the games. To this date Half-Life 2 and Portal alone are cemented in their legacy and will be considered some of the best games of all time, thanks in large part to their dedication to testing. Good points in your video all around.

      This is such a big thing to do, and it takes money and time but its so important. Supermassive games also did that with until dawn! They put heartbeat meters on random people as they allowed them to playtest to see if the horror was working the way they intended and if the story worked properly. Super interesting approach and really did an incredible thing for the game! I'm happy you enjoyed the video and thanks for the comment!

    My favorite game is Minecraft, and one of the things it's known for is it's bugs. I remember they fixed the portal sickness bug in which after going through a nether portal would give you the portal overlay even though it wasn't supposed to.
    Then there are bugs that are used so often they're basically features. Quasi connectivity, trap doors and mob path finding, and gold farms. This is a game in which players figured out how to find anyone's location in game by breaking blocks. Or by punching into nothing.
    At least it's not bedrock with their many random deaths due to miscalculations in the games physics.

    • @iRywo
      @iRywo  Před měsícem +2

      Sometimes it's also just insanely difficult to remove all bugs, especially when you have a MASSIVE community that works hard to find them and exploit them, and hey, sometimes bugs are actually fun and/or useful! The portal bug was just negatively impacting gameplay so it's great it got fixed, but I feel gold farms are optional for players and add a different element of gameplay. I personally loved building and designing mobfarms back when I played Minecraft!

    As i have noticed the later years is that there is coming more and more games that is being released as Early Access. So in a sense the peoples that buy them on Early Access is the game testers. And more and more games are coming out that way. You could say its a loop hole that is getting used. Cos then you should expect bugs in the game, so its no point in saying its bad. Cos its still under development. Just to take a game like Star Citizen it was released to play on Early Access 12 years ago and peoples paid full price for it even back then, and still do. Even if they still haven't placed a release date for the game. Only that “Star Citizen 1.0 twinkles on the horizon!”. And here is some games you have to buy on steam that is still in development: Nightingale, Palworld, Icarus, Satisfactory. So we are paying for the games to be the game testers and report bugs and there will be bugs. Cos the game is still under development. So if you say "The game sucks" they reply "Ok. Well, its still under development".

    • @iRywo
      @iRywo  Před měsícem

      I think early access is both a gift and a curse.. yes it does give more leniency towards developers as "it's no problem that there's a bug, it's in early access anyway!" But some developers also very much abuse it in order to get their game out quicker and like you say, use the masses as guinea pigs.
      Some games do it in a smart way, as Hades and subnautica did, where yes the game wasn't completed yet, but they really did finetune and add to the game based on the player reactions in ways that wouldn't have been done without going early access. And then others release a game and it's riddled with bugs or other issues and expect the community to let them know about the bugs but have no intention of changing the game outside of that, replacing the phrase early access with "open bug testing" would be more fitting.
      And then of course there's those games that are early access but are just finished gameplay and loop wise (with very little bugs), just might not have the amount of "content" in terms of maps or whatnot" that a full game would have. Battle Bit and PUBG are great examples of that. Early access can be great when used properly, not when it's an excuse to have the masses do bug testing for them. I suppose it does make it possible for a single dev or small dev team to create a truly massive game, as they might not have the resources to test everything properly compared to hundreds if not millions of players would, so then there's the question.. should they embark on a huge game knowing this? Or should they stick to small? Or should they be allowed to abuse the early access a bit..

    WOAH dollar store nakey jakey! i like this. You totally jacked his entire format, posture, way of speaking and sitting too. You should very much work on not completely copying him. Even your acting is the same dude. Its well done because you're copyihg someones very distinct work. Only thing you couldn't pull off cause you'll never be Jakey, sitting on the yoga ball. Sincerely I think you could make really good content, but find your own voice and your own aesthetic. You're literally ripping off a very established, and well known but not mainstream youtuber who very carefully releases content occasionally. Either you're just a huge fan and it's all a complete coincidence that you're stealing his entire brand and personality, or you figurfed nobody would notice since he doesn't upload often. I only clicked initially because I thought it was him. But now i'm going to watch it all the way through and give you your view out of support, but also to see just how far you're gonna go ripping him off. So far you're almost all the way down the checklist.
