Memmingen is a city in the west of Bavaria, 100 km from Munich. It is believed that in ancient times there was a Roman military garrison on the site of the present city, since the 5th century there was a settlement of Germanic tribes on this site. The city of Memmingen itself was founded in 1158. Its location at the crossroads of trade routes made it an important center of trade. In the 16th century, Memmingen supported the Reformation, the peasants in the city formulated the "Twelve Articles" - the first known declaration of human rights in history. The city was the scene of the Thirty Years' War - it was in it that Wallenstein was removed from business. Now Memmingen is interesting for tourists with its well-preserved historical center.
