    Update: Tested on the Zenbook Duo which has Integrated ARC Graphics... and improvements there as well!! It's using the dedicated ARC Video Decoding core in the Free version 19 where as 18.6.6. was only using the CPU itself. Plus, there's several comments below confirming improved performance when using AMD cards too. So, improvements for all babyyyy!! :)

      Would be interesting to know how it will turn out when running an APU instead of a CPU and GPU... I'm doing my video-editing on a mini-pc with an inbuilt AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX, AMD Radeon 680M... Which works absolutely fine, but I don't have a clue how performance will be with that Davinci-update... I don't have that beta update yet, because I'm stupid and don't know how to get it.^^ Aside from that, I don't have new material to make a new video at the moment.There are some things in the Pipeline, but i have to record them before I can do the editing of course..

    Autodesk: Lets slowly remove features from Fusion 360 personal use version, get more draconian about who can use the free and educational versions, and double the annual price of the commercial license over the last 3 years! Also the longest subscription term is 3 years, give us your money. Oh and you are breaking the terms of our hobby license if you make over $1000 a year or use it commercially in any way!
    BlackMagic: Studio version, $295 perpetual license. Has gone up by $0 since I began using it in 2019 to my knowledge. I have never needed to use the studio version even though I use it for business. I have never needed a single feature in the studio version to run my youtube channel. I probably will buy it anyway because Davinci Resolve Free is just so goddamn good I want them to have my money.

      ". . . Davinci Resolve Free is just so goddamn good I want them to have my money." Exxxxactly. I'm a very old guy -- literally back before PC's were imagined by only those 'in the know.' That said, computing-wise I've been around since DOS 3.0 and in all those 40 years have never seen anything in this world or the wider business world that compares and not just in the way it works but the entire BlackMagic approach: training, literature, video, to say nothing of the group. And it's free? Simply incredible.

      Enshittification is a common problem with monopolies. Basically: "a term coined by Cory Doctorow, a renowned science fiction writer, blogger, and technology advocate. It's a pretty good idea for them to slowly add elements from the studio version to the free version over time while having a 1-2 years gap from what's in the studio version.
    So the free version isn't stuck too much in the past.
    The neural engine stuff should still stay a Studious version imo.

      just bought studio about a week ago mainly for the gpu acceleration, so seeing the free version getting it too feels like buying it was a waste. it would really upset me if i paid $300 just to have early access to features everyone's gonna end up getting down the line anyways.

    • @TransformXRED
      @TransformXRED Před 2 měsíci

      @@malikh2o347 You paid for the best video editor et to support de company ;)
      There's so much more than juste gpu acceleration in the studio version.
      And you buy the ability to get support too btw.
      And,... That's life. You can buy anything and see a new model of it coming out the next day 🤷‍♂️. But at the end of the day, you bought Resolve Studio to get what you wanted. You got it ;)
      Donc forget that there was no gpu acceleration for the free version since forever.
      But it makes sense to have the free entry point to the blackmagic design ecosystem behaving the same as the paid option at some point, so people won't dismiss the upgrade not knowing that the the most basic functions like the playback was limited in their free version.

    • @Ash0ur
      @Ash0ur Před 2 měsíci +3

      @malikh2o347 you get many more features so it's not even near a waste if you're taking video editing seriously. also early access to features 2 years ahead of the rest is still a huge advantage if you think about what you can achieve in two years or the opportunities that others will miss.
      this is coming from a free version user who is saving for the paid version

      The reason given in the video makes total sense - you could have people put off buying the studio version because of performance, or it gets labelled as 'slow'
      Studio still has plenty of features that make it worth the price (and it's a bargain compared to Adobe's rental)

    I think the reason for putting this h264/5 optimization in the free version is also due to the cloud workflow and subscription: you run files smoothly in the free version, then are more inclined to pay a monthly subscription to the cloud that lets you work with others and also have a sneak peek to the full studio version.

I'll probably still upgrade to Studio for the other things that I have a use for now. My current setup is an AMD 5600x, 32GB RAM, 1060 (I bought it during the crypto crazy when cards were overpriced), two m.2 drives and it was fine for my Mini 2 footage, not so much for my Air 2S. I am about to build a new rig soon and video creation will be primary focus with gaming as secondary.
    I learned from "Tech Notice" videos that Intel CPUs have an iGPU and that it's really good for video editing.
    I also learned that Nvidia 4000 series cards are good because they have AV1.
    My question is: if I plan to get a 4060 or 4060ti and the plan is to use AV1 in DaVinci Resolve, do I still need Intel's iGPU? Because I think the iGPU only helps with H264 and H265 right? If I don't plan on using H265, then the intel iGPU will be useless, and then I dont have to get 14600k or 14700k, and I can just go Ryzen 7800X3D. It's so efficient and cool-running!
    Is this correct? Or is Intel iGPU still important even if I plan to use Nvidia and AV1 in DaVinci Resolve?
    Thanks!

    Dude, could you teach me a way to create responsive lower thirds in DaVinci? It's the only thing that stops me from migrating to it and keeps me on Adobe!
    I often need to use lower thirds that in the same design hold names and small words, and also hold larger words, sometimes covering almost the entire width of the video!

    Analysis seems to be on spot. I also believe that Studio should be - and now is - mostly differentiated by features, not speed. I'm an occasional user, kind of a migrant from Movie Studio (after the horrible move they've done with v18) and I'll probably not upgrade soon... but I might. But I'd like to see how FAST (or slow?) it is! I'll not buy it for the features alone, but at the same time I'll not buy it for I don't know what speed boost I'll get. I want to see how fast it is and eventually I'll decide - yeah, on the features alone. ;-) Their business model is actually nice and fair and I may appreciate it as I use it more.

    Da Vinci 19 faster ? Lol it is way way slower than 18.6. I bought and tried the Studio V19 and it is slow like hell. I reverted to the 18.6 studio version until they fix V19 to run at least as fast as 18.6.

    Does this also mean H265 10-bit? 😮

      I'm actually not sure ha! I realised when I was editing that I used 265 10bit footage as my example and it worked fine. So I need to dig into it. Understanding the codecs on Windows is a bit if a nightmare.

    You do know that da Vinci resolve works better on a Mac than on a PC. I don’t understand why anybody would want a PC… They are all dogs!
    My Mac studio ultra is amazing.

    LOL maybe they will someday give us the same features on Linux and the same audio decoding (AAC) Linux can't use .mp4 files with AAC audio, just a joke....

      Unfortunately its probably just a numbers game. I'd wager Linux makes up such a small percentage of their total consumer base.

      Roflmao! Black Magic gives you Software at no cost, and you still expect them to pay for your codecs? Are you that cheap or just entitled?

    scam scam scam. You cannot decode with the gpu, at least if you have amd in davinci 19 beta free.

      @MrAlexTech  Před 2 měsíci

      Loooots of others in comments below seem to say they can. I don't have amd so can't test. Also even so, how in the world is this a scam?! 😄

      @@MrAlexTech because if I had written friendly you would have never seen my comment... I wouldn't say I like social media :( Ok, but I assure you there is no option to encode with the GPU in general settings. BUT I just exported a video in h265 and I noticed that DaVinci used only the GPU, that's good and amazing. NOW I have another problem, even though I installed the beta in another directory it deleted me the 18... :(

      @@isoladellerosetv @isoladellerosetv yeaaah there's no option to toggle it on/off in general settings, that's only in Studio version. But the free version seems to be doing it anyway.
      I'll always try and see the comments. I get alot, so I may miss some. But I do try to respond to any I can. I generally respond more often to nice/friendly ones 😄
      Yeah unfortunately installing 19 will overwrite 18. You can revert back if required though.

      @@MrAlexTech I appreciate. Maybe for the stuff I do, the beta is ok... only video editing, cutting for my youtube channel. Since it uses the GPU I solved my problems, because with the CPU I had choppy exports in h265. Thank you, I know you do your best and I am a subscriber for years now. :)
