- Ukrainians love to go mushroom picking and luckily just outside of Kyiv there are quite a few dense forests where they can be found. Just a couple marshrutka rides out of the city and you will feel like you're in the heart of the wilderness! Join me and my family for an afternoon vlog in nature :)

SafetyWing (best for younger travelers + digital nomads): safetywing.com?referenceID=alinamcleod&Ambassador
I use both of these companies depending on the destination and requirements of entry. If you are going to be abroad for a long time and/or don't need as much coverage, I would recommend SafetyWing. BUT you cannot purchase SafetyWing WHILE in Canada or USA. You can only purchase once already abroad. Hey Mondo is more expensive but offers a higher level of coverage including plans that have trip cancellation/interruption insurance. Hey Mondo would be the better insurance to use if you need travel medical insurance when applying for a visa. Both companies cover covid. I am an affiliate for both companies, but I pay for my own policies.

Mushroom picking is a lost art in Western Europe and in the USA, but the Eastern Europeans still do it quite a bit. I had fun mushroom picking in Romania and found a bunch of porcini and chanterelle. In the USA, my friends and I collected kilos of morel mushrooms in the Californian forests. Morel mushrooms grow especially well after forest fires.
That’s awesome!
It is a lost art. My grandfather use to pick mushrooms in Massachusetts. Sadly the knowledge never got past down. However, my wife taught me how to pick mushrooms here in Russia this year. It was very fun. I plan on teaching my kids to do the same
Alina, the magic of your videos is that it allows us to see how similar we all are. Your ability to fluently speak Russian and English bridges that separation we here in America were raised to think of Russia as the enemy, (well maybe Putin still is). Thank you and Bless you and your family.
Just wonderful to watch
I come from Poland used love mushroom picking . I now live in the UK and there aren't many good woods in the area which is a shame .
What a fun, fun day! Love your aunt and uncle and cousin.
So enchanting to see you and some of your family walking together in the rays of sunlight filtering through the trees. Life and time together is so precious!! Truly a miracle to live in this place and exact time. I marvel also at how wonderful is your command of both English and Russian. You are one beautiful mixture of many things!
Your family is amazing, peace and health for all! 😁❤
Thank you so much!
Time with family is priceless! Классная прогулка получилась) А в ноябре уже поздно для грибов.
Making memories! That is what it is all about! Nice just to see family enjoying a simple walk in the woods & enjoying the time together! And yes I know where you are going! Enjoy the warm weather! Lovely video! Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely, thank you :)
I´m glad you are already recovered after the terrible last weeks. I can see that YOU ARE MORE UKRAINIAN THAN RUSSIAN OR CANADIAN LOVELY ALINA. Even so you are citizen of the world. Your followers prove it.
Hello Alina! 😄🙏👋🌟 I hope your having a marvelous fantastic day! This is really a beautiful wonderful video! 😁👍❤️👏🇺🇦🍄📹🥇💯🌟 Mushroom picking really is fun! I remembered going mushroom picking with my family in Poland years ago. It’s wonderful to spend great time together with family. Thank you so much Alina to share with us this beautiful marvelous video! I wish you Alina a wonderful beautiful glorious blessed day to you and to your wonderful family. Take care and be safe Alina. 😊🙏❤️👋👍🌟
This video brings back so many memories. When I was a little бочка (boy), I would go mushroom hunting/picking with my parents and god parents. Being in Alberta, the areas where there were many mushrooms were usually on private properties (farms).
What a great day to be out in the nature with family. It doesn't get much better than that. Even if you found no edible mushrooms it was still a great time. I believe you are going back to Canada next. Stay safe and well!
Great to See Families Getting together for some Fun... we cant do that enough...What an Interesting Adventure...

Beautiful to see family together ❤️
Thank you very much for bringing me into the warmth of your family relationship.
*GOD BLESS MY FAVOURITE TRAVEL CZcamsR AND HER FAMILY!*
*I THINK NEXT DESTINATION IS POLAND OR BALTIC COUNTRIES.*
Thanks for sharing ! Real life ,appreciated !
Nice fun little video mushroom hunting with your family. Glad you did not eat any poisonous ones!
It's always nice to spend time with family 👪 especially in nature. As always, I love all your videos. Stay safe.
Really liked the mood of this video, and great to know that there are such beautiful forests so close to Kyiv.
Cool mushroom picking, Alina!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Learning about Kyiv this past year for the first time I'm fascinated by the amount of people there are yet how close nature and forests are, nothing like that here in the states. Mushrooms or no mushrooms, these kinds of inexpensive and rejuvenating example of everyday life are most appealing to me.
Very peaceful break for me too! Enjoyed scenes from life in such a far away place, yet strangely familiar!
Oh boy does activities like this bring back lovely memories for me Alina! Very nice work lass, very nice. 🤍
Nice to see you with family, Alina.
Looks like you were having so much fun! I love mushroom and your very nice family😁
There is nothing like a relaxed day with exploring with your family and make many reasons just to be with each other. Also, the forest looks like a place that beckons an alone place to clear your mind, being with nature and making your desires come back to the front of your dreams. Thanks so much, Alina! You have reminded us that you can do anything and find peace in your heart, just never stop doing that because it is the food for your heart that all of us need the most. Be safe in your trip to Canada, and look forward to more of your shares, remember, we all think the world of you. Cheers!!
OK so some how u tube brought me here. I'm Australian. My bubcia polish slash Ukraine. We just lost her last year at 97. She survived ww2 just but I'm lost for words with your travels. Ironically my brother married a Canadian.... Vancouver. I've never been so fascinated until now to see your travels from Australia 🇦🇺 1950 10 pound your touching hearts
Here in Montenegro i did the same my whole childhood, when i visit my uncles during the summer at their mountain village. It's called "idemo u pečurke". :) And i remember finding quite a lot of them. Some fat white ones. They seemed to be the desired ones.
Being able to Stay with family is wonderful feelings in life,by the way, that's awesome Russian accent,Alina, that's one of the most important reasons to learn Russian step by step right now right here if i have free time🙌😂
A great change , doing something for yourself, instead of your followers, enjoy , looks like good fun ..😊😊
You have a wonderful family 🍄
Your family is very nice and this trip into the woods looks amazing. I really like looking for mushrooms, but unfortunately I find very few. Thank you for sharing this beautiful video
Hi,Alina . Mushroom is after rain.Good atmospheric video in the sunny day.Thanks.
Hi Alina! I very much enjoyed your family mushroom adventure. Mushroom picking is a very popular family pastime among Lithuanians too - whether in more-humid Eastern Canada (Québec and Ontario) and, of course, Lithuania. Growing up, I spent many a weekend mushroom picking with my family. Elder family members were experts! Grybas = mushroom. Grybauti = to mushroom pick. Važiuojame grybauti = Let’s drive (to the countryside forest) to pick mushrooms!!!
Hello Alina! Thanks for the explanation of the beautiful place and also for the exciting search of mushrooms, along with your relatives.
Wow! I love that too. Tale care and have fun.
I too, once went on a mushroom adventure. But that was more of a psychedelic adventure.
Alina , isn't it amazing how much the terrain looks just like N.W. Sask.?
Do you remember getting home, I didn't. Stay safe.
My Aunt and Uncle used to pick wild mushrooms in British Columbia. They stuck to a couple of varieties they recognized, and never had any problems.
A wonderful video, you are blessed to have such a wonderful outing with a great family!
I sure am!
This reminds me of my childhood when we did family events on Sundays. 👏
This might be my favorite video so far. 😊 It was so heartwarming to see you with your family. They seem like wonderful people and I can tell you all really love each other. I don't know anything about mushroom picking, but hiking/walking in the woods is something I love doing with my own family. It was a blessing to see you do it with yours. Thanks for sharing the video! Loved it!
Thank you so much :)
@@AlinaMcleod You're welcome 😊
Nice outing spending time with family. Often, the best times are the simple ones.
I kinda stopped watching youtube for like 2 months but I'm back now then your Ukrainian content gets recommended, which is my favorite yaaay! I missed your videos
Beautiful 😍 Alina. Have a great time ❤ NATURE is beautiful 😍 Thank you 🙏 for sharing .. love as always from Texas 🤍🙋♀️🇨🇱
Thanks, Leonor!

I am in Bulgaria for over a month now, and do go mushroom picking almost everyday. Would not say i recognize all of them, but am picking only the ones i know are edible and taking pictures of the rest. It is sooo relaxing to be in the forests and meadows.
We buy a lot of Porcini/Cepts/Boletus Eduilus from Bulgaria. Pounds dried. I cant wait to visit Bulgaria and ski and hike. I hope I dont get arrested for weed though.
This forest is a nice place to spend the day
This reminds me of when I was young hunting Wild Morel mushrooms in N. Michigan in the Springtime --- Our family also carried "Mushroom Sticks" to hit the ground to "make the mushrooms pop up" --- Also picking Wild Blueberries and Huckleberries in late Summer/Autumn
Alina, go back to Armenia. Your content there was amazing!
Zdravstvuyte Alina, super to see these local adventures. That´s real life, I like it. Much more than any tourist will see in a long time. Nature looks like intact with all that mushrooms. Special greetings to Misha, it´s worth it, but sometimes not easy to be vegan, known from own experience. Greetings for you and the family. Well done.
Thank you!
Result isn't the main, process itself is the main.
Nice video Alina ! Beautiful family you have in Ukraine. We seen your previous video (our favorite place in Kyiv too) so we know where your next adventure is . Safe travels to you Alina. We always look forward to your videos. Can’t wait to retire in a few years so we can spend the summers in beautiful Ukraine. Cheers !!
Thank you! 😃
Looked so much fun, love hearing you speak in Russian 💗
Well let's just say it's hot and it's in the south. Great destination. I heard it's amazing. Good luck on your journey.
It's even scary to remember how long ago I went mushroom picking, You know... okay, let's not talk about sad things 😅 Moreover, this video is saturated with such a good mood atmosphere 💓
And for me it became Anna's "benefit performance" 👏🏻 Her reactions are so funny 😄 Especially at the moment of your unexpected berries tasting 😂 And based on their color, I guess that Misha's fancy matcha latte was mixed with the same berries that you found in the forest 🥤 😋 😁 Btw, even your "mushroomtka"-minibus was painted in one of the shades of that one of your favorite colors 💙 And yes, like fishing and many other things in our life, it`s more about the process than the result. But mushroom picking is more of a process for the whole family and yours turned out to be so unforgettable again 💞
Love the musical score in this vlog, who are the artists. It's always nice to be with family, it keeps you centered and connected. Wishing you and your family the best of peace and good health. Love you dearly😍😍 Harriet and Jim . Richmond, Va.
Thank you very much!
awww you have such a beautiful family! So wonderful you've had this time with them xoxo
Hi
I live in Colorado. I must say this was a great year for them. I picked so many of them.
3:22 Congrads Misha on going vegan! I've been a vegetarian for most of my life. Never picked 'shrooms though, but they're the healthiest thing you can have 8:24 except for those! You should go to Bukovel next. The ski season is starting!
Yes, I went to Bukovel about 2 years ago and had a great time!
What fun. Thank you for sharing your day and family. Jove
Ok....dad is from St. Michael Alberta (Lamont county) so we would pick the following (transliterating from Ukrainian, or at least the way my family pronounced them):
Spring, smoozhi, they look like little Christmas trees, there are two types, really dark top ones(the sweeter variety) and brownish ones. They are both great eating, just fried in butter with onions....superb. Mom would put them in cream at Christmas time, also excellent. Note, if there is little or no rain in the spring, no smoozhi.
Summer time, 2 types. Pitsareshi, the white button top mushrooms that grow in cow pastures. White on top, brown gills under the cap. If it has white gills under the cap DON"T EAT IT, its called a White Angel....you can guess why. You can mush those up and mix with grain to put outside gopher holes to solve your gopher problems.
Kozari, or Red tops, red or orange on top, sponge like under the cap. Also good fried with butter or in cream.
Also in summer time my Uncles from Styko-Mikes' side used to pick these yellow mushrooms with yellow sponge underneath the cap, I forget the name. They grow in sandy soil like around RedWater Alberta where my Uncle Billy's farm was which was Styko-Mike's home place.
Fall is of course PeedPanki, they grow in rotten tree stumps. Mom would dry these above the fridge after we cleaned them and just keep them in an old pillow case until Christmas and them put them in cream for Shedry Vechir. Good eating for sure.
Its an old Uki thing to pick mushrooms and berries in the forest. If you're in North-Central Alberta just make sure you make enough noise so that any momma bears can scoot the cubs away and avoid you....the last thing you want to do is get between mom and the cubs....not good.
Ok, love the videos, keep it up.
Cheers,
Jim
My grandmother who lived in Ukraine would walk in forest and pick mushrooms a practice she continued when she migrated to USA.!
Mushrooms grow mostly in the SPRINGTIME, now is Falls, no luck.
Love your channel Alina ! Nice to brush up on some Ukrainian language.... Eddie from Canada....
It’s Russian 🙂
Awesome !
Привет Алина. Привет Миша! Не болейте! Приятной прогулке по Родным местам.
Fun video, really liked it!
what a nice day with family on forest adventure
I liked your vlog and I wish a great day
When I was really young , I enjoyed hanging out and doing these type of activities ( probably has to do that I had no tv, no PlayStation and no internet).
Early 2000's , my fam gifted my mom with a mushroom book to learn to see if mushrooms are poison or not. My mom is big mushroom picker but I never dared to eat them😆.
Loveli Aline! Thanks for sharing
Nothing best than a family trip 😜
Be carefully Alina picking up poison mushrooms and thereafter eat from your unwashed hands thereafter. Some kind of mushrooms are heavily infected you also without eating it. 🤗👍
Nice 👍 video done in the forest 🌳, Alina.
I went mushroom picking before. It was cold, raining, and miserable. It, I guess you can say, was a learning experience. I did learn which mushrooms are picked for certain foods. Like brown trumpet mushrooms are the kind in Campbell's mushroom soup. Glad you had fun. I did find a "magic" one. I didn't dare touch it, but my friend begged me to tell him where it was.
How does trumpet mushroom shape and taste like?
@@jimmymars1249 Actually, I do not eat mushrooms, I cannot stand the taste. But the mushrooms are brown and grow to about 6 inches tall at the largest. The look like a funnel or an upturned trumpet. Apparently, they have a mild, woody taste, but that s only what I heard as I don't eat them or any mushroom.
Excellent Peaceful Video
Thank you so much ❤❤❤❤ Alina
Hi Alina, Just watched your previous video and your plans for your next big destination. Hope you have all your vaccines needed for your next travels. Our daughter travelled there for 2 months back in 2018. She had all her shots but managed to pick up a rare strain of 'para-typhoid' and was very sick when she returned to Canada. She'll never know where she acquired it but most likely through food or water. Always be careful. You will see some beautiful and historic cities and rugged mountains. Will enjoy seeing some more of your adventures. From a fellow Canadian.
Sorry to hear that. Hope she recovered quickly!
Who is your doughter?
Glad you raised the subject of Magic Mushrooms. Maybe it would be a useful topic for a future video.🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄😉 How to avoid picking them by mistake, of course...😏
Very interesting venture, I can't say I ever went mushroom picking or know the difference between different mushrooms, I heard mushrooms commercially grown in deep humid, and cold caves here in America.
Inside the first ten viewers, mushrooms are the best, stuff them with pate cover them in crumb and fry till golden, and then dip them in garlic mayo
Sounds tasty
my Father loved to pick mushrooms in the Fall
Went mushroom picking on a study group in Russia years ago. It was fun. Have a safe trip wherever you head next.
I plan to grow mushrooms on my farm .
I think I want to go. Mush love from humboldt California
É muito prazeroso estar em contato com a natureza boa sorte pra você ai
Me and Uncle Dima would probably get along just fine!!!
Приезжай, пообщаемся!
There is something about those types of trees! What is it? Very familiar and home feeling.
One of the top reasons I want to visit poland and Ukraine. The mushroom cultures. I am a commercial mushroom picker in the Pacific Northwest of America (Seattle Portland Montana) and I love the business and mushrooms. I also saw you and Johnny visit the skate park and ice rink. I grew up playing hockey and skateboarding. I cant wait to visit Ukraine. Hopefully I dont arrested for weed.
В Пущу-Водицу ездим постоянно на озёра купаться и на пикник , лучше всего там весна-лето-осень )
Nice intro song. Feel happy
Классное видео Алина👍👍👍Я тоже там бывал.Вам стоит побывать в городе Ирпень👍У Вас получится самое Cool video.🙂🙂🙂🙂🌹
My rule #1 for mushroom picking: Go with a Gribnitsa!
So Good
Good job Misha, I am vegan too
Алишка, теперь приезжай весной. Пойдем на рыбалку за большим карасем!)))
