  • Not only is Scott's feature loaded Spark RC World Cup one of the fastest, most successful XC race bikes, it's radical geometry makes it a proper trail ripper too. But what are the details that make it one of the most rapid and radical XC/Trail bikes in the world?

    Mr K the CZcams algorithm suggested your channel a couple of weeks back and for once I’m so glad in its selection. Your reviews are really spot on, really excellent mate.
    I’m now REALLY looking forward to your double review on this bike 910 trail version. Should be really interesting.
    Keep the great vids coming. 😎👍🏻

      All hail the algorithm 🤣 Glad you’re enjoying them Steve. Shot the solo review of the 910 on the same trails but properly slippery conditions two days later. Then shot a head to head on both bikes this morning that was really interesting and confirmed some potentially surprising outcomes. I’ll try and get them edited ASAP but people keep making me do proper writing work. Swines

    Interesting review thanks Guy, good to have explanation of the range which was slightly puzzling 👍👍

    Love this video and ur coverage of the spark. I heard they were coming out with a 140mm version called the super trail. That would really tempt me and am looking forward to ur thoughts on it.

    I had been on the previous gen Spark rc but decided to get a 910 with full XT and a fox 34. There is no downside to climbing over the old one but on really rough terrain it just hauls ass. The only downside I've found is that it encourages pedaling in a few really gnarly spots and I've been clipping my pedals on the ground. I probably wouldn't have been pedaling in those spots on the old one though.

      Thanks Phil, that’s really great feedback. I rode that same 910 on the same course two days later so a test and tech video on that are up next. I’ve been riding it since on various other trails too and love it. Going to shoot an RC V 910 head to head this morning too 👍🏻

    How does the Spark RC compare to the Specialized Epic EVO, purely relating to XC and marathon racing?

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  Před rokem +4

      The Epic Evo frame is lighter than the HMF by around 200g I think. And that weight is the same on all the Epic Evo (the S-Works just has a carbon link which saves an extra 90g) while Spark comes in three carbon grades. The actual suspension kinematic/feel is surprisingly similar between the Evo and the Spark in 'open' too. Neutral and grippy but slightly bouncy when you're really grunting. That's where the Scott remote suspension control comes in and if you're happy making use of the levers I think it's a real advantage. Some people hate all the clutter though and much prefer a cleaner - set and forget system. The Evo definitely wins there and it's interesting to see a lot of the Spesh team racers on the Evo not the Brain Epic these days. Geometry is also similar (head angle of Evo is exactly between the two Spark options) but the Spark is a lot stiffer and more accurate. Spark spec value is a lot better too. For £250 more than the SRAM NX Evo you get GX AXS on a Scott. hope that helps some but the real problem seems to be finding either of them in stock so good luck with that.

    Have you seen any wear issues on the steerer where the cables and hoses rub when turning? Not a fan of the headset based internal routings.

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  Před rokem

      No thankfully. The way the spacers are designed with specific channels seems to keep the hoses/cables well away from the steerer. Not like Focus and Nukeproof

    It sounds like XTR are not your favorite brakes for an XC bike. What are your top choices for a light XC brake?

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  Před rokem +1

      Hi R J XTR should be great but they have a lot of lever feel/pull issues even after years of people complaining. XT seem better but still not totally sorted. Level are OK but I really rate the new Hope XCR Pro X2 lightweight brakes. Trick Stuff are insane money but great without the super vented rotor (it warbles too much) and Magura bite hard if you're OK with a squishy lever feel. I'm a big fan of the Formula Cura which is light even though it's not an XC brake and it's powerful enough that you can run a smaller than normal rotor.

    • @Rawlins74
      @Rawlins74 Před rokem

      @@GuyKesTV I'm using XTR four piston brakes with 180 mm rotors front and back and really loving them. Not having any of those issues. Maybe that is a specific two piston brake problem?
